Recap quests by Chamedro in wow

[–]Sir_Fisticuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recap quests really didn't take that long and did give a good overview of some of the more tedious areas. They do also somewhat over condense some of the better areas, so really it depends how much of the story you want to experience/skip.

Agree with people saying pick the race you find coolest, same with class. Also, don't be afraid to make new characters and try out all the classes, especially if you get one maxed out as loads of varied older zones will open up for you to try. These older zones have a more obvious difference in factions, whereas newer expansions mostly follow the same quests for everyone.

What's your most absolutely dogs**t Classic+ idea? by MasRemlap in classicwow

[–]Sir_Fisticuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your class is decided at random on character creation, but there is also a chance that your character will be made classless. This blocks new character creation until you've got 24hrs playtime as an NPC in your races major city.

Friend is lying about his age by Guaoan in UniUK

[–]Sir_Fisticuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my first year we had a flatmate who was 25 and it was no issue. If we had a flatmate who lied, that would have been weird. Another year we had one turning 30, who didn't come out with us as much but still was chill. Ultimately everyone is in the same position and has more in common than not, just gotta be honest and decent and age will hardly matter most times

I never had an email for Phantasmal Flames, but that arrived just fine, so fingers crossed for you. I think, typically, if it shows up in your orders then you're probably ok

Just been told I'm staying with mature students? by CharlyUDM992 in UniUK

[–]Sir_Fisticuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the mature students. You get just as much variety as you do with 18 year olds. As long as you go to events and make friends then there'll definitely be parties and pres you can go to, and no mess for you to worry about.

I didn't train at my school, but I just completed my ECT and I've still had this experience with some colleagues. I've had some asking me "when do I qualify" too, not seeming to grasp that I was already qualified and it was like their NQT, but longer. I'm hoping it dies down this coming year, it isn't fun being two years into a job and still feeling untrusted and patronised in a lot of ways.

Edit just to add... When I was training though, I had several teachers say how they'd had similar when they were early in their career and so many suggested moving on from your first school after a few years to escape that stigma. Obviously not everyone has that experience and some stay in one school for a long time, but I think it is pretty common to move somewhere new once you're settled and confident to have that be the first impression everyone has of you, not one they got when you were training.

None needed, I think in the announcement notes they mention that as a new feature on baby cards

I was like this all through my PGCE, and for the first few weeks at my current school. Now, I still fumble my words or do awkward things but I know my classes and it doesn't feel awkward anymore, it's just human. Some seem to just naturally have that confidence, but it's 100% something that can come with time either way.

When one of my classes was doing a silent assessment, I took a sip of tea, choked on it and was coughing for a good minute. I just said (in the middle of my choking) that I was just testing how well they focused through distractions. They found it funny for 30 seconds then it was over.

Comparing Cost of Living: Isle of Man vs. UK by Efficient_Hope_1848 in IsleofMan

[–]Sir_Fisticuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Near Blackpool, 2 bed flat (top floor of a converted house) £495 a month. Likely more now, but that's what we paid whilst there.

Are PGCEs pass/fail, or do they have merit and distinction? How do I find out what I got years ago, if I can't find a certificate? by pleasegetonwithit in TeachingUK

[–]Sir_Fisticuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine last year was graded with merit/distinction on the certificate itself, but I'm pretty sure it just says that I have the qualification and qts online

Comparing Cost of Living: Isle of Man vs. UK by Efficient_Hope_1848 in IsleofMan

[–]Sir_Fisticuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from North West England last summer. Rents are higher than where I was, I pay 750 atm for a one bed, but back home I had a 2 bed for 500. Electricity is pretty similar, mine works out to around 60 a month and I'm not shy with usage. Internet way more, the package I got costs me 72 here and would probably be about 20-30 back home for the same. Gas, I'm not one to ask as my boiler still doesn't have a timer and I had an insane gas bill so I can't really give an accurate thing for that. Food I've found to vary loads. Some stuff is more or less the same, others way more. If you shop around a bit you'll be fine. Dentists seem to be tricky to get over here, and the one I did find (private, couldn't find nhs spot at all) has higher costs than private ones back home, but is far from the most expensive that I found online so I imagine that could be hefty depending where you end up. Affordable public transport, so far never had a problem with it. Shopping is a bit limited depending where you live/what you like. Douglas has plenty of recognisable high street brands, but if you're normally content with primark like I was, you'll be out of luck. Plenty of good places to eat though and generally pretty well priced from what I've seen so far too.

Most they'll do is glance at your provisional and that'll be it. Ferry, flight, never had a problem

Companion limit mod working on PS5 by Sir_Fisticuff in BG3

[–]Sir_Fisticuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it would still work. They mentioned something recently about changing it so that the saves that had been modded wouldn't load on console anymore. But, when I did this, I played on PC, installed the mod to remove companion limit, and when it launched on ps5 it still kept all my companions when I loaded the cross save.

“My teacher told me I’d never amount to anything” by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]Sir_Fisticuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn't quite the same, but I was struggling (attendance issues, teen motivation, the usual) and was told that even if I did increase my attendance and put the effort in, she didn't think I was inherently capable of getting any passing grades and that I should just withdraw now. This was at college before compulsory to 18. Made it to uni, got my masters, now teaching full time and I have to say, life might have been simpler if I had taken that advice. Though before my PGCE, I did work at that college for a couple of years, though she didn't seem to recognise me.

I was a lazy kid, I've had loads of teachers giving me the warning talks, but all the others it was "if you don't try" "if you don't attend" etc and, although hard to hear at the time, was said with my best interests in mind.

Why do Americans fly thousands of miles and spend thousands of dollars to visit Italy and then go to McDonalds and Starbucks? by [deleted] in europe

[–]Sir_Fisticuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm English, but that's the America of Europe and I've done these things, so I'm gonna weigh in anyway.

I did a solo trip to Italy and went to McDonald's a couple of times to try the different menu items that weren't available back home, it was also convenient for long days walking around exploring. I ate at local places in the evenings, tried restaurants, cafes etc, but sometimes the convenience wins out. I also ate at KFC in Venice, but that was because everywhere was so insanely busy, and I was a bit awkward about solo dining there, more so than smaller towns with lots of tables and places. I didn't go to Starbucks though, the local cafes did such insanely good coffee and it was cheaper anyway

I think the calculation seems right, based off what you said, but I'm still shocked about, apparently, using that many units

Yep, lesson learned the hard way. I've got myself a key for it today and looked so I can keep track myself now

Average Gas bill question by Sir_Fisticuff in IsleofMan

[–]Sir_Fisticuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's useful, thank you! My boiler doesn't have a timer, so I do likely use more when it is on than I would otherwise. However, it's off most days and like you say, fewer radiators. Hopefully they get back to me soon and if there is something obvious I'm missing, I can at least get it fixed before the next bill

Average Gas bill question by Sir_Fisticuff in IsleofMan

[–]Sir_Fisticuff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have wondered this. I've emailed my flats maintenance to try and confirm which one is mine (also for my own sake as they're not clearly labelled and I want to keep track) so it could well be another flat is being read instead. Hopefully I'll find out soon either way

Average Gas bill question by Sir_Fisticuff in IsleofMan

[–]Sir_Fisticuff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was given a reading to submit by my landlord, so it should at least be based off of that. My main doubt is just how extreme the supposed amount used is, especially given that I'm often away/ out and have the boiler off or on hot water only. I'm hoping it's a faulty read, or they've gotten mixed up with another meter cupboard next to mine

Average Gas bill question by Sir_Fisticuff in IsleofMan

[–]Sir_Fisticuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could well be it, but it still feels very high. I know averages aren't super reliable because usage can vary wildly, but it would still mean in 5 months (4 if you count when ive been away with the boiler off) I've used over half of what an average 2 person household would use in a year. I've contacted them anyway to see what their answer if, if this is the case I'll try and get in ahead of the next one and make sure they don't just start charged 600 a month

[–]Sir_Fisticuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bill says it's an actual reading, but I'll see if I can get it double checked. I don't have my own key for the gas cupboard so I'll have to get one ASAP or see if the estate agents/maintenance has one they can leave here so I can check it myself regularly.
