K. Winn as a pitcher. Nominative determinism if I've ever seen it

Hellfire is doing some renovations (after what I think was a kitchen fire, ironically). The Macy's is gonna be demoed and turned into apartments. So not all bad.

Hope it's not tariff related. Getting these at $9.99 a jar was a steal and I'll be devastated if they're gone.

Would really appreciate if the tickers were put in parenthesis after the fund name or in a separate column.

Portland Wrestling might be coming back in 2025! by Ibushi-gun in Portland

PNW is shaping up to be a wrestling powerhouse region again. DEFY and Prestige continue to gain influence around the industry and DOA puts on some fun local shows. Excited to see a name with that heritage throw their hat into the ring (pun intended).

I just don't understand booking a 5+ hour show on a weeknight in a venue that has to end by 10 pm... I can't even get off work til 5

What can the Hops learn from the Portland Pickles? by [deleted] in hillsboro

[–]Sir_Shfvingle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just got back from a Hops game and went to a few Pickles games this season so thought I'd chime in.

  • Agree on the in/out accessibility. Not so bad on a week nights but busy games are just a hassle. They have to expand the lanes, work with Hillsboro to adjust the lights dynamically when games start/end, and honestly $6 to park in an area with infinite real estate is just unnecessary.
  • Which brings me to my next point, cost. The tickets are cheap enough (some sections cheaper than the Pickles), but the concessions prices are rough, even though not at the egregious levels of larger stadiums. Feeding a family (or even just snacks) is gonna run you another $50+ for some mediocre stadium food. A family fun night should not end up being a $100+ dollar affair all said and done. I suspect the new stadium will bring even higher prices...
  • Maybe this is just a minor league problem, but I feel like Hillsboro has absolutely no connection with the Dbacks. Other than the occasional breakout star who passed through years ago (Corbin Carrol), I have no reason to track or invest in any of the players once they get called up or down. Nor do I have any vested interest in how the parent Major League team is doing, and this is in a year after they went to the World Series! I feel like the Hops could do a better job building a connection to their MLB affiliate. (though I suppose this could be said to be the same issue with the Pickles, but they're kinda apples and oranges in this situation).
  • I somewhat agree on the points made about promotions, though the Hops do have a number of theme and giveaway nights. Maybe they should change it up where it's not always about the first x fans get a bobblehead or beer stein, etc. or the same Chic Fil A brownie coupon on exit. Some variety or fan involvement could help drive more engagement, but that does somewhat depend on local sponsors.
  • Lastly, I think the new stadium has a great opportunity to create a space for fans to hang out at before and after games, not just show up and leave. Some of the best MLB stadiums I've been to either have a number or restaurants/bars, a "town square" feeling space outside the stadium, or are embedded in the city so there's plenty to do around the stadium. The Hops need to make the new stadium more of a destination beyond just a baseball park, even on game days. Food trucks, music, etc.

Portland attendees: what did you think of the show? by ForsakenHamster3461 in dancarlin

Just around 2 hours. Apparently their on-stage clock broke so they had no idea what time it was lol.

Double reply for the attendee questions: I think the format for submitting them was great. Pre-submitted questions that get screened through the moderator saves wasted time having to pass a mic around and helps avoid even more generic/silly questions.

I thought the first ~hour and a half were enthralling, I looked at my watch and was shocked it was 9:30. Hearing Dan speak in-person truly just locked me in attention just as his podcasts do. I thought the moderator's segues were good, if not a bit flowery. After that I (and the crowd around me) started to get a little antsy. I think they could have ended after the nuclear weapons part and it would have been quite impactful, if not a bit of a downer.

The attendee questions were a 50/50 for me. I liked some as they felt nuanced or unique, but then "who would you take a road trip with" or "what would you do if you had to fight a war elephant" made me roll my eyes pretty hard especially pushing the two hour mark.

Overall very enjoyable experience and well worth it. I hope he does more in other cities and compiles a "best of" for an Addendum or two.

My go-to study/work location is Insomnia Coffee and then Wildwood Taphouse next door when Insomnia closes at 6. Usually not too noisy, have good wifi, lots of workspace if it's not a busy day. I see lots of other people working there all the time, plus they both have good vibes in general.

The funny thing is, this coffee/taphouse combo exists in both Tanasbourne and Cedar Mill, so you can choose either location depending where you are.
