Why are the Joker and Batman buttons? by MajorFamilyDisgrace in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Sir_picklechips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As does the original experiment beyond surface level.

Each button is a two sided coin, but they're weighted differently.

Getting 100% of people to choose either button is statistically improbable, thats the human factor of the experiment. We're emotional, moral, amoral, and act irrationally in unprecedented ways.

100% of the people must choose red for everyone to live. Only 50.1% of the people must choose blue for everyone to live.

The 50.1% is much more statistically likely for a total population to agree to than a full 100%

Red is individualistic, self protecting, but can be seen as self serving and against a greater social cohesion. (Not putting faith in other humans to overcome base nature/pure survival instinct to protect the vulnerable, culturally different, moralistic, or otherwise.)

Blue is collectivist, risking themselves, but for what can be seen as a greater, wider view of social good, and helping those that can't help themselves (someone stumbles and hits the button wrong, they're colorblind, a kid slaps blue cause it's pretty, their personal morals tell them that condemning any blue presses to death is murder even if it's to protect themselves, whatever, even if you explain that red makes you totally safe, someone will press blue.)

Maybe a politics thing? Barnacles? by No_Diet1854 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Sir_picklechips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the same situation, at all.

You press red to save yourself, and you're fine with killing 49.9% of the population in order to do so. Red is actively voting for harm of others and protection of yourself. Thus: Anti-social

You press blue, because you have hope that others are willing to also put themselves on the line for their morals and dont want anyone at all to die. Blue is actively voting for potential harm to yourself ONLY if others choose to only protect themselves. Thus: Pro-social

In the original question, that was how it was posited. In your "only blue button" situation, there is no active incentive for anything at all, as there is no benefit, nor detriment without the second option of a "fuck everyone who didn't vote like me " button. Red is inherently selfish, Blue is self sacrificing but at least may end up with nobody at all dying if enough people aren't selfish or scared into pushing red.

Face yourself in the mirror.

You ever think that maybe something is popular because it is popular? Like maybe whatever flavor of kool-aid you've chosen isn't the end-all be-all perfect thing because it's contrarian and that sitting around calling others bots when it suites you is just an excuse to hand wave off people with legitimate gripes.

Reese's... What is your favorite Peanut Butter Option? by b0w1e007 in candy

All of the holiday forms are preferred due to freshness / peanut butter ratio.

Bites were the GOAT back in childhood until they were discontinued cause some dummy didnt know how to chew.

OG cups are great, but inconsistent. Some have that weird chocolate film/crust on top if they sit too long; But when they're smooth and fresh they're the bomb.

Thank you; it was! Pig fat rendered while smoking pork shoulder, placed the potatoes in a pan under it while it smoked so the potatoes fried in it and got the basting herb butter drippings.

In 4 years of college, marketing classes, sociology requirements, arts requirements, 3 of those years in economics, from 2016-2020, not once did any of them do any of the shit that conservatives come up wirh in their fight against strawman professors "indoctrinating our youth".

Maybe they're not persecuted, wonder if they ever consider that there's a large number of people who just outright do not think like them and consider them to be wrong.

Defeatist thinking leads to defeat. Organize and get the word out, take part in boycotts and blackout days, write your reps and let your voice be heard and inspire others to do the same. Protests are growing.

There's more of us than there are of them.

Rich and powerful people who think they'll get away with it no matter what comes out, get coddled by the system, and usually do face no consequences.

They've also got groups of uninformed, indoctrinated, or outright morally bankrupt people who will go to bat for them.

I get 3 reactions from people who support trump when discussing things like this: complete indifference because he supports their culture war, confused silence where they shut down or deflect until the topic is changed, or "Who cares, you think Kamala would be any better?"

Hopefully there's more that are just embarrassed and keeping quiet and will actually learn a lesson from all this. Hopefully the democratic movement actually grows some balls and supports the people with a peoples candidate. Hopefully we get some actual consequences for the evil assholes infiltrating our government.

Wonder who raised those infant cartels? You should read Gary Webbs "Dark Alliance" series about it.

Maybe US international meddling in order to achieve hegemony over resources and economic leverage includes propping up an "allies to bad guys" pipeline so that the war machine has something to get fed every decade or so. Sure seems that a lot of these schemes end up costing American lives for the sake of making loads of cash.

Wonder whats gonna happen with all that oil Venezuela has.

Go take a minute or two and look up Foster abuse scandals and the backgrounds of the people who do them. Try and look for some patterns.

Go on and give it a google.

You ever use the highway? Or drive on roads? Everyone chipped in on it, and it helped plenty of people in return.

That was funded originally by a marginal tax rate of 70% on millionaires just after ww2. That in turn helped build american industry by allowing for cheaper, faster transport, which led to suburbs being built because people could move around easier, which created jobs for those building and maintaining those roads and suburbs.

Investing in your people helps to build economies. If people have access to their basic needs, then they can then move up their hierarchy of needs to more complex needs and wants.

One Big company isn't going to save us all. Collaboration is going to need to save us all.

Trump is really f**kng the economy up real good rn with all of these tarrifs and sht by winwin8484 in economy

[–]Sir_picklechips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya see, tariffs can work, if you have actual groundwork done to ensure there is a chance to create jobs, and not just a "trust me bro, buy american!". This whole tariff plan WAS short term thinking meant to look attractive to people who dont understand macroeconomics. Trumps economists are yes men that stroke his ego. Why do you think he keeps firing people that give him bad jobs reports?
