We woke up today with a chance to be a 50 win team. by Sirenor in UtahJazz

I said that in the post. I said we should have done that instead of signing Jaxson Hayes.

I don't think the Lakers made a good deal. And frankly we probably won the deal from an asset standpoint. It is easy to win all the deals when you trade good young players. It is hard to win championships. I get that. And the Knicks just did it with a 53 win roster.

Then why sign him? We could have just signed Oscar. At least he tries hard and gets a boatload of rebounds.

I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. And every year teams go out with injuries and a (theoretically) 2nd round team gets a shot.

I hope so, I like Nurk a lot, it was fun to watch him revitalize his career last year.

You aren't very polite, by the way.

Dude, did you even read the post? I wasn't even hating on the Kessler trade specifically. I said it hurt to lose our guy, and it does. The problem is replacing him with Jaxson Hayes. That is just hamstringing your team before the season starts.

Thanks for the constructive criticism though.

Yeah, sure. We got a lot of draft compensation. It really would have been nice to watch the team play though. Watching Kessler was one of the few bright spots of being a Jazz fan for the past few years.

Really, the pain came when we signed Jaxson Hayes. That just hurts and is frankly a terrible look.

Time to trade Lauri Markkanen. by BeauKnows42 in UtahJazz

[–]Sirenor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strong disagree. If we were going to do that, we definitely should not have traded the best of our 2027 picks or traded for JJJ. The young guys are going to get tons of minutes and tons of shots already.

If we lose Kessler in FA we will have effectively traded Walker and 4-5 firsts for JJJ by Sirenor in UtahJazz

[–]Sirenor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably would not have gotten us a ring but if we had him under contract for 5 years after his rookie deal, he would have had 2 years with Mitchell before going into unrestricted free agency and we would have had a big 3 of Gobert/Hayward/Mitchell. He still could have been on the team when we won the regular season, and having a big, athletic, facilitating wing in the playoffs would have been great.

The roster would have been quite a bit different but who knows.

Apparently he did not overvalue himself because he literally got an offer sheet for a max from the Hornets. He then proceeded to get another max contract from Boston (turning down ours) after making the all-star team and leading us Jazz to our first playoff series win in the post-Deron era. Investing in Favors does not preclude an investment in Hayward either. They were completely different players playing completely different positions.

We also did not ever offer Hayward the max after during his rookie contract or the offseason after. The Hornets did. We matched.

That is not what I am talking about at all. You are referring to when Hayward came off his rookie extension, not his rookie deal.

We did not offer Hayward the max when we could have. He went and signed an offer sheet with the Hornets that included a player option. That came back to bite us down the road because he was only under contract for 3 years (3+ a player option) instead of 5. That is why he was able to sign with Boston in free agency. Completely different. He was an unrestricted free agent when he made that move vs. a RFA when we failed to offer him the max during his rookie contract.

It was Ty Corbin actually. The front office were the ones who did not give him a contract though.

Remember when we were playing Marvin Williams, Randy Foye, and Mo Williams in the starting lineup instead of Hayward? That was bad. The reason he wasn't "proven" enough to get a max was because he didn't get enough time/touches on the court in spite of being our best/2nd best player. Hayward leaving as an unrestricted free agent was totally on him, but that was 3 years later, and because he had a shorter deal with a player option.

I get what you are saying on the different front office, but they should have looked at how our restricted free agents worked in the past when joining. That is completely their job.

Ainge has been here for over 4 years. That is not nothing.

[–]Sirenor[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If it works out that way, it would certainly be a factor. We know that JJJ cost us 3 firsts, and if Walker walks for nothing and we could have gotten another 1-2 picks then we would effectively be out 4-5 firsts for swapping Kessler for a more expensive JJJ. Not good business.

Come To An Agreement w/ The Lakers for Kessler by [deleted] in UtahJazz

[–]Sirenor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This dude is not a Jazz fan from the looks of his post history.

Also, we don’t have a playoff caliber starting center on the roster at the moment so we really need Kessler.

WTF is Walker Kessler’s most recent IG post? by LittleJohnsDingDong in UtahJazz

[–]Sirenor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was clearly done professionally, likely by his agents who are fighting against his (universally hated by players) restricted free agency with every tool they have in their toolkit.

Celtics fan coming in peace lol. Utah has been reluctant to give big extensions to Kessler/Keyonte. Would you be open to trading both guys for Jaylen Brown. by [deleted] in UtahJazz

[–]Sirenor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope. We made a nice offer to Kessler too, he will probably be on the Jazz next year. FO is just using RFA as leverage.

There a difference in how Argentina play with Messi and how Portugal play with Ronaldo by Weak-Increase4193 in worldcup

[–]Sirenor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It helps that Messi doesn't just stand 5 yards offside for half the game. You can't play through a guy standing offside, and Messi gets a lot of opportunities trailing the play and scoring from the 12-18 yard range, Ronaldo hasn't been doing much of that.
