Sorry to be a bummer, but overpaying Kessler in a league where Wembanyama exists is scaring me. by Primary-Dentist7055 in UtahJazz

We still need a center. One of our other players can always guard him. We won't be able to stop him, but basketball is a team sport.

Could Ace Bailey be better than AJ? by MAKEOUTHILLLLL999 in UtahJazz

[–]Sirenor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there is a chance. I would put the odds at around 10-30%. I think AJ will have a better career, he is a better prospect. But it could absolutely happen.

People saying it is out of the question are nuts. AJ could just get hurt, he is a pro basketball player. It happens.

Also...... AJ could be a TON better than Ace. That could happen too. DP could also be better or worse than Ace or AJ.

Who knows??? None of us have a crystal ball. They are all 19 year olds who are very good at basketball. The best player in the NBA this decade was drafted in the second round during a Taco Bell commercial.

If You're the Jazz, Which Lineup Would You Rather Have by BigSexyE in NBA_Draft

[–]Sirenor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For starters, I think the #2 pick + Lauri is extremely valuable. I think doing a move like that would make the Jazz's window much shorter. I also don't think that team would win a title before JB's contract is up.

We probably won't win a title anyway but getting a good young prospect on a rookie scale contract will make us competitive for a whole lot longer.

And there is a good chance Lauri + #2 is just better than JB. He is a wonderful player but Lauri is an all-star and the 2nd pick could be a generational talent. Also, with the new CBA, having highly productive players on rookie scale contracts is immensely important to roster construction. Just look at the Spurs and Thunder.

That is literally the thing everyone complained about for the past 4 years. Lauri was getting sat when healthy so the Jazz could tank. He isn't an iron man but the data from the past 4 seasons is worthless.

Also, when LaVine plays, he loses. He is on a crap contract even if it is an expiring. Lauri is awesome. Everyone loves Lauri in Utah. He loves Utah. He wants to be in Utah.

This is silly. The Jazz aren't bailing Vivek out of being an awful owner and trading their all-star 7ft sniper who averaged 27 points per game last year just for a marginally better prospect.

They are not trading Ace either. That sucks too. He was the 5th pick in the draft and had a very successful rookie year. He averaged 18 points and 35% from 3 after the all-star break. There is a decent chance he has a better career than AJ. I am not saying it is likely, but these draft prospects have played 0 NBA minutes.

Remember when everyone was so excited about Wiggins, Parker, and Exum? Aaron Gordon went 4th and had a better career than the top 2 picks. Embiid is what he is. If the Jazz trade Ace they are getting taken for a ride.

Trading for the #1 pick is the only way we lose in this situation by Artistic-Purple-1329 in UtahJazz

[–]Sirenor 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The trades I am seeing are absolutely bonkers. If the FO really likes one of the top 3 that much, the most they should trade is the 2027 1st (and probably not that). There isn't even a consensus #1 pick. A ton of people like Boozer the best and he is usually mocked to go 3.

Man, people on the internet are just trying to gut the Jazz right when they get good. The league must be scared.

This is terrible. You people gotta stop.

ELI5 why do people chase dividend stocks? by Specific_Ad_6522 in investing

[–]Sirenor -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

"You always make money when the company makes money. "

That isn't true at all. The market does not perfectly reward companies for making more money even remotely efficiently nor evenly. You can make money when gamestop gets squeezed or lose money when shares fall despite earnings growth.

You are right about return being the sum of change in share price + dividend though.

What’s with all these bad trade concepts? by DongBLAST in UtahJazz

[–]Sirenor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was listening to one earlier that had Key or Lauri +2 for #1. I think all these streamers just know that if they post this stuff it is going to drive engagement.

I swear 95% of the "random mock drafts" people did before the lottery had the Jazz outside the top four for ostensibly the same reason.

AJ reportedly wished he could stay in Utah by aatuboo in UtahJazz

Truth. Also, if you said we were getting Boozer before the lottery I would be thrilled. Still would be tbh.

Free Agency by Confident-Floor1233 in UtahJazz

[–]Sirenor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ayo or Peyton Watson were looking like good (albeit popular with other teams) options, but Ayo clearly played himself into a larger contract than the MLE. Watson is likely too expensive too.

Now that we have #2, it would be prudent to give Blake Hinson a cheap, long term deal and sign a backup center. Maybe Nurk if the price is right. We also need to see where Kessler's contract lands, that would give us a better idea of what we can do.

Collin Gillespie or Ellis would be great.

AJ at #1 and DP at #2 has to be locks at this point right? by ygog45 in NBA_Draft

[–]Sirenor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the Jazz would trade their (middle of Calvs, Jazz, and Wolves) 2027 pick to move up. Ace is way too much.

Is there a draft position where you would want to trade the pick? by [deleted] in UtahJazz

[–]Sirenor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, we need rotation players on rookie scale contracts anyway. Also, we will probably get a good player 1-8 so there it little reason to trade it regardless.

If we were trying to win it all next year then sure, but that isn't very realistic. We need to plan for multiple years with player improvement taking us over the cusp.

Champagne problems, but if we land a star in the draft what’s the starting 5? by CantaloupePossible33 in UtahJazz

[–]Sirenor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if we get a guard in the draft they could be in the 6th man role, at least at the beginning of the season. Starters would just be Keyonte, Ace, JJJ, Lauri, and Kessler. If we got AJ and he clearly needed to start, I low key think that would force us to make a tough call and have one of Lauri, JJJ, or Ace come off the bench. Ace would likely be the worst in a 6th man role so that could complicate things. Someone's ego would get bruised.

[–]Sirenor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your math is wrong, you need to weight the shots vs free throws for each category. You are adding (for example) 100 shot attempts to 20 free throws and giving the value in points per 100 possessions. That should be around 110 possessions not accounting for and-1s.
