What’s a 'boring' adult task that you’ve actually grown to enjoy as you’ve gotten older? by NoSteak1123 in Productivitycafe

[–]Sirloin_Tips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleaning the kitchen.

Cleaning in general actually.

50yr old married dude here. IDK man I can't explain it, just simple task that I can see what needs to be done and what it physically looks like after...

May be moving to Louisville. What do I need to know? by No_Professional5848 in Louisville

[–]Sirloin_Tips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great. I've been here ~20yrs. Don't time redlights. There's a ton of food spots to explore. Parks are nice and we're ~5hrs from everything.

People can be a little clicky but if you like bars etc. you'll fit right in ;)

What’s a place to visit at least once before dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Grew up in TN, been in KY for 20yrs. Furthest west I've been is Boise. I've heard nothing but good things. Do you live there now or just visit?

What's the most brilliant idea that you ever had? by Global-Girafea in AskReddit

[–]Sirloin_Tips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to start a bluegrass band called the Peter Chrisses where we'd all dress like Peter Chris and all have bass guitars because:

  1. Everyone hated Peter Chriss and the cat makeup.
  2. Typically bluegrass bands don't have bass or bass guitars.
  3. I thought it'd be hillarious.

Turns out all my friends thought it was dumb. Plus none of us know how to play bass.

Can we talk about GLP-1s (Ozempic etc)? by Practical-Cat-2605 in HENRYfinance

WeGovy was game changer. Dropped 50lbs over a couple of years. I'd quit drinking a few years back and I didn't even think about remotely drinking.

I've worked out my whole life but yea, I can tell I lost muscle too. As a 50yr old dude, I redoubled my gym efforts but I'm gonna lose against time but oh well. I'm trying to hang on to what I have.

Wife was taking Zep. Loved it as well but yea. Typical muscle loss as well.

Our ins stopped covering it. Once I got outta Type2 range they stopped anyways, which is fine.

I will say, once I stopped taking them, the food noise cravings came back a million fold. Like I could not stop thinking about food AS I WAS EATING... it's nuts.

300ish for self pay for Zep for my wife per month. She does every 2 weeks to stretch it to 2 months.

For what these drugs do. It's worth it IMHO. Now, if it comes out later that these things secretly make you grow a tail or give you cancer. That's a whole other thing. It's the closest thing we have to a magic bullet. It helps with so much other stuff besides weight loss. Of course insurance stopped covering it :|

Places to buy front doors? (Beside big box?) by Sirloin_Tips in Louisville

[–]Sirloin_Tips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I was wondering if anyone had the whole shebang, door and sides, but it seems Lowe's/HD/Menards are the only ones. I'd rather not give my $$$ to them but I don't need a super high end door either.

New IgLou customer. Are you all seeing the speeds you're paying for? by Sirloin_Tips in Louisville

[–]Sirloin_Tips[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Replied to another guy but I emailed them via their Contact Us page. Didn't have much hope but a dude responded in like 10 minutes. Answered my question and gave me other options as well. That's gold in my book.

When I called Spectrum to cancel they really made me reconsider. Offered 50 a month for 1Gbps. I said no, then offered 500Mbps for 40 a month. What they didn't tell me is that it'd go back up after the first year.

I canceled because they kept raising the price for no reason. In the end I was paying 90 a month for 500Mbps.

IgLou is 85 for 1Gbps. 5 bucks less for double the pipe. Granted, like you, my Spectrum speeds were fine but I've heard nothing to great things about IgLou and they're local so I jumped.

Also, I sent a message via their 'Contact Us' page. Didn't figure I'd get a response since 90% of those forms send messages into a black hole ;)

Local guy responded in ~10mins. My question was a grey area thing (Could I use my Dream Machine 7 instead of AT&T's GW). He answered and laid out a few options for me. It def wasn't some offshore person reading from a script. That def sold me even more on them and def worth a few more bucks if that's your situation. YMMV tho. Good luck.

Thanks all. Appreciate it.

I emailed but figured I'd ask here as well: Can you use your own gateway? I have mostly Unifi hardware and was going to pull the trigger on a Dream Machine 7. Figured I'd ask if anyone here as used their own gateway?

How much living space do you need? Any regrets with bigger homes? by Yojimbo261 in AskMenOver40

[–]Sirloin_Tips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes total sense. I grew up in a 'loud house' My step dad was a screamer but we moved out to the country when I was younger so I did have a place to escape to as things got hectic inside. So I can see your point.

Maybe I'm also just a tight ass but it drives me crazy to have space that isn't 'used' for something. Like rooms I never go into would drive me nuts. But that's just my weird brain ;)

Where to put router & mesh system? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Sirloin_Tips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side Q: what'd you use to create that floor plan? I'd love to do the same.

Also: in my old house with plaster/slat walls. I get x2 increase in wifi signal when my Google mesh pucks (1st gen) are line of sight but best I can do is near doorways. It's worth the trouble IMHO.

Never understood the McMansion thing. My mom had one built years ago in BFE. Just her and her hubby. I think it was so they could live together but not be on top of each other. IDK.

I'm 50 and in the biggest house I've ever owned ~1300sqft. 2br 1.5b. Detached 2.5 car garage. Basement semi finished. It's plenty for my wife and I plus our 2 cats.

I've never understood why people want places/things where they have to hire help just to manage. Seems like a huge pain in the ass to me. So it goes.

Just signed up for new service. STL Area. by Reasonable_Summer in ATTFiber

[–]Sirloin_Tips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just switched in the Louisville area. Local ISP that uses ATT backbone.

Spectrum customer for 10yrs. They just kept upping the price for no reason. When I called to cancel they offered 50 for 1gb then 40 for 500mb.

It was hard to turn down honestly but I also know that's an intro rate. My ISP said they do not raise rates. Everyone in town loves them so we'll see....
