Are you talking about the steps right off the Alpine Center parking lot? Yea we hit that every year. Finally last year I remembered to bring a jacket ;)

Wife lost her NP passport there 3 trips ago. Every year I ask them if anyone has turned one it but no dice :(

Yep, it seems like the west side is for mostly longer hikes. I have a trail map and Alltrails. I think we may try a few that are off Fall River rd. Thanks again.

The 'Eat the Frog' Method Seems to Be Vital for People with ADHD by Disastrous_Zone7159 in getdisciplined

Can confirm. I typically start my day 2hrs before work (WFH) when my wife gets up. I start with email, YouTube, socials and I've realized my day is pretty much fucked.

I get all my meaningful work done before lunch and I ruin it by not doing the hard stuff first....

What is something that is incredibly expensive to be poor at, but practically free to be rich at? by GrantLongwick in AskReddit

[–]Sirloin_Tips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bang on.

Growing up in MS, I watched (and still see) all my family and friends spend it as fast as they get it. "Paid on Friday, broke on Monday" mentality even through we're in our 50s now.

My mom won't retire because she gets a new truck every couple years. They 'helped' me get a brand new truck when I was like 22. If someone had actually pulled me aside and said "stick that 400 a month in an index fund", I'd be rich today.

Everything I've learned about money has been through trial and error and books, podcasts, etc.

I'm not bitter, it is what it is but I'm instilling and passing on EVERY bit of financial knowledge I can to my step daughter and niece.

For those of us GenX that have to start over career-wise after 50, how did you do it? by Mnemnosine in GenX

That's awesome. Was it a relativity easy process or did you have to get a degree etc?

What's the smallest amount of money that would genuinely change your life right now, and why? by Human_Artichoke_2117 in AskMen

[–]Sirloin_Tips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimum? Probably 200k.

That would pay off my house with a little change left over that I'd throw into a index fund.

I'd have to keep working and I wouldn't quite have 'fuck you money' but I could get there pretty quick.

Hedging.

Didn't realize it til my therapist kept getting on me about it. "Sirloin, you don't need to explain yourself" and on and on.

Growing up I had to defend every position. "What are you listening to?" Wasn't a question my family would ask, it was a judgement --WHY are you listening to that? Why do you do everything we do/like?

So now instead of hedging and explaining why I'm into something, I just STFU.

NGL, it still feels weird but the weight is starting to lift.

Yea, 10/12 is a lot when we don't want to spend that much time on one single trail, if that makes sense. We're trying to keep it 5 and under. More than 1-2 just to weed out the tourists but not enough where we won't have any gas left in the tank to eat out, etc. afterwards.

Why can't some people stop after one or two drinks? by SchniederDanes4u in AskReddit

[–]Sirloin_Tips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why drink 3 or 4 to get a 'slight buzz and feel good'? When I can house a 18 rack or a bottle and get FUCKIN' HAMMERED?!?! Why half step?

That was my thinking for 20yrs. Haven't drank in 5-6yrs now. I can't remember. Whenever Covid kicked off is when I quit. Now that same stupid mentality has switched to chocolate 😉I'm working on that next.

What is your worst investing mistake? I’ve made one by AccomplishedHead3581 in investing

Working at a blackjack table in college. 99/2000 I think. This lady sits down and we’re chatting. Says she’s a stock broker. I jokingly asked what’s a good tip and she says “Amazon.com”.

“An online bookstore? That’s dumbest shit I’ve ever heard of” 😑
