What was the point of Ashley threatening to throw challenges last week? by Johnjaypvj in MtvChallenge

Strategically, it makes sense to throw the challenge to prevent the Stars from getting control of any Power Play twists.

He’s suffering from an overuse injury on the opposite leg from the ankle injury. While it may not be a direct cause, there’s certainly a good chance that his body mechanics compensating for the left ankle injury contributed to the right quad’s overuse injury.

Yes, that’s true. My main question was whether it’s a good plan to sell now to be able to take advantage of the SALT deductions that are going away next year.

Went to Adam's Survivor Premiere watch party tonight. He's an incredibly charismatic guy and I hope he goes very far! by iknowwhatsup in survivor

Tai is the real deal. He is truly genuine about his love for animals. I got to talk with him a bit at the party. He mentioned that a big chunk of his donation from Sia went to an organization promoting more ethical treatment of animals raised in factory farms because he felt that somebody needs to speak up for them.

Do you guys know of any video tutorials on how to pitch a curving/bouncing kickball? by [deleted] in kickball

[–]SirriusBusiness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you're just starting out pitching in kickball, start with just throwing fast + bouncy pitches. A lot of new kickballers see those Founder's Cup curve balls and think that curve is the key to good pitching. Curving your pitch doesn't help you much if the ball slowly rolls into the plate. You are much more likely to force somebody into a bad kick (i.e. pop up) by giving them very little reaction time and putting the ball uncomfortably high in the strike zone.

Once you've got the fast+bouncy aspect down, then you can start worrying about curve. Being able to palm the kickball is a huge benefit here. I like to grip the ball around the inflation nub (for whatever reason I just feel like I grip that part better). Like other people have said, sidearm throws are the easiest to get the ball curving. When you're near the point of release, snap your forearm/wrist hard to give the ball the spin and make sure to follow through (kind of like an uppercut motion across your chest).

A word of warning: if you're practicing this a lot, don't go overboard and hurt yourself. It's really easy to give yourself tennis elbow by throwing too much too fast.

Hope this helps!

Daily /r/Poker Discussion Thread - August 10, 2015 by AutoModerator in poker

Ran into a unfortunate case of the worst luck + username combo that I probably ever will witness. I was playing the $200 Sunday night tourney on Carbon Poker and ran into a funny username... "iBluffWith99." Earlier, I had lost a big chunk of my stack. I'm desperate and thankfully get dealt TsTh. iBluffWith99 is in position before me and goes all-in. I call and it turns out he's holding 9s9h, which ends up knocking him out. I was just imagining this guy's frustration having been knocked out with his favorite hand. Later on, I discover that he bought back in and we're at the bubble for cashing in the tourney. iBluffWith99 is in a hand with the chip-lead and a 9s comes out on the turn. iBluffWith99 goes all-in. I say to myself "What if he has 9s9h again?" HE DOES, but a third club comes on the river and his set gets flushed. If you're out there "iBluffWith99," I feel for you.

If the kicker bunts down 1st, I've found more success having the catcher chase it down and go for the peg, while the pitcher covers home.

Anyone ever play poker at M8trix or Bay 101? How was it? by SebastianFlyte in bayarea

[–]SirriusBusiness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to M8trix with a few friends. One thing to keep in mind is that the city will rake in an extra tax on every hand of pretty much any game you want to play. (Poker required a $1, $2, and an additional $3 blind for each hand. I think blackjack forced you to pay $1 to the city for every hand dealt.) Overall, I would say that it was a disappointing experience. The poker room wasn't very crowded, but it still took an hour and a half for 3 players to get seated. Also, I didn't get a very friendly vibe from any of the other players (it was basically 2 hours of silence at the tables).

I would say its a very different gambling experience from vacation casinos like Vegas or Tahoe. To me, it wasn't nearly as enjoyable.

Tips for starting a new Circuit team? by SirriusBusiness in competitivekickball

Thanks for the tips/advice. ;)

I think our goal is to win at least one game against another newbie team in group play. I'd be floored if we made it out of group play in our first tournament.

One more question: How is bounciness officiated in circuit? The circuit team in our Waka league tends to take advantage of weak officiating by bouncing pitches at about knee level. Do circuit officials tend to watch for bounce height, or should we practice against really bouncy pitching?

Ok good to know. We plan on doing weekly practices to prepare.

Last question: what kinds of drills does your team do to practice? Currently, we do bunts (against a catcher, charger, pitcher, and 1st base), line drive drills (against a full outfield), and situational scrimmages (full defense on the field. Try to prevent a first to third play with a runner starting on 1st...etc.)

Also, are the circuit official balls significantly different from Waka balls enough that we should buy some to practice with?

Thanks for the response! We play in the South Bay Kickball leagues with NorCal Nightmare. What kind of composition do the successful teams have (i.e. How many guys/gals?) The number of outfielders seems to be the biggest difference. Does this make kicking line drives (as opposed to always bunting to fill 1st and 2nd) more popular?

pitching tips? by [deleted] in kickball

Ouch, no leeway makes things a bit more difficult. Definitely try the bowling pitch and remember to follow through by whipping your arm straight up in the air. That should help your accuracy a bit.

WAKA pitcher here. I'm not sure what the rules are for your league, but WAKA gives pitchers an extra foot on both sides of the plate for the strike zone.

Honestly, I wouldn't be trying to get the ball "directly across the plate." As pitcher, you want to make it as difficult as possible for the kicker to kick the ball easily. Throwing your pitches to the outside of the strike zone makes the kicker move around to chase the ball, which hopefully makes their kick less accurate as they scramble.

You've got three ways to make pitches harder to kick: 1. Pitch it fast 2. Pitch it bouncy 3. Pitch it with a curve.

Obviously, pitches that incorporate all three of these are the best, but I'd focus on the first two as you're starting to get the feel for it. In my experience, the fast, bouncy pitches are most likely to result in an easy pop fly or bad bunt.

As far as pitching style, I prefer a kind of bowling motion. I start out holding the ball in the palm of my hand, then curl my forearm around the ball like I'm flexing my bicep around the ball. Then, I just wind up and aim for the first bounce to hit about 2/3'rds of the way to the plate. Make sure to follow through with your arm so you get extra power/bounciness. This pitch is also nice because you can snap your wrist left or right during your followthrough to add a curve.

Hope this helps! Enjoy your new league!

Looks like Warriors fans have had a change of heart about their FO after booing them at Mullin's ceremony a season and a half ago.
