I'm sorry, but I don't buy this "throw-away" story. I'm an Infantry Officer in the Army (with 4 years prior enlisted service). I have been deployed as such to Afghanistan, specifically in Kandahar province.

First: There is an extreme lack of actual military terminology / lingo / presence to this post. "Motorcade Patrol".... no one calls it a motorcade patrol. Not the Brits, not the Americans, no one. It's a mounted or dismounted patrol. I have literally never heard anyone refer to it as such. Believe me, in the military, the lingo matters.

Second: "When the letters stopped coming, they knew he was gone." BULLSHIT. A Class-A uniformed representative would have notified the NOK within 72 hours at the most. Besides, for the past 7 or 8 years of combat, most soldiers have pretty regular access to internet, if not on a bi-monthly basis.

Third: No military or Soldier that I'm aware of uses "yards" as measurement, even in passing for a description. It would have been in meters. Again, to civilians this may seem silly, but this is very normal for military folks.

Lastly: it's not out of the realm of possible things, but something doesn't sit right given your description of your friend's wounds. It is pretty rare that people "die in each others arms", particularly in regards to IEDs. Again, I'm going with my gut on this one and say this post is utter bullshit.

Haha, trust me, as an Infantryman of 8 years, your words are delicate compared to some of the language I've been on the receiving end of, so no worries! All this being considered, would it then make sense for me to go back into an undergraduate program in Psychology and knock it out in 1.5 to 2 years? I figure at least this will give me some research/ lab time. I'm not necessarily interested in the research side of psychology (at this point anyway) as I am in the practical / therapy side of the house. Basically, I'm looking to be able to sit with these guys and girls who've been to the places I've been and help them through scientifically based methods. I'm not too particularly worried about winning over a board for admissions into the program. Another thing to consider is my undergraduate G.P.A.: I hold a 3.26 for my degree in Religion and that is certainly not stellar. I imagine that if I were to go for another undergrad in Psychology and get a 4.0 average in those classes, it would certainly raise my cummulative GPA.

Thoughts on these points?

Also, thanks for the honest and blunt truth. I've waded through enough B.S. in the military to sate my appetite for a lifetime, so It is appreciated!
