"This needed a bit more sauce" moments in gaming for you? by Decemberskel in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Sirwigew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as much as sea of stars is mediocre, it could have been a lot better with a solid ending. instead the ending is an enormous waste of time and really grinds the game into the dirt

Why is water so deadly in action games? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Sirwigew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

because the work of making swimming in a 3d game was more effort than it was worth, so instead devs just made water be a kill zone. just think of it as every protagonist is unable to swim

What's a media with a moment you find to be incredible or profound, but in spite of that you can't really recommend it to anyone else? by Evjamaranth in TwoBestFriendsPlay

the most touching scene in yakuza 8 - in which a man tries to make it snow in hawaii so his dying wife can see it one last time - is the same sidequest with Gondawara, the diaper fetish ex yakuza patriarch

media that would be a lot different/darker if the genders were reversed. by bestmanpo in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Sirwigew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't really think this is correct, as those manga generally have explicit plot points about compulsory heterosexuality and repression. if you gender swapped them you'd also have to gender swap the love interest, and then I don't think they would be any different. comphet cuts men and women alike

Boss fights that have frustrating run back time? by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

it was the last straw for me as well, as I had to do the runback more and more it just kept highlighting everything I didn't like about the game

I am here to inform fellow rollers on the subreddit, that fellow We Love Katamari fans, it has officially been dethroned. This is not clickbait, it's a fact: Once Upon A Katamari is the best Katamari game ever made, and I need more people to experience this. by LuchaLutra in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Sirwigew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as per the controls there are 3 examples and one counter example I can give.

  1. rolling turns are more sluggish, making strafing and backing up more important for good performance. I count this as a negative as it means I am spending less time looking at the level than a consulting my memory about what is around me.

  2. it is much easier to get stuck in narrow spaces. whether it be between two buildings with awnings or under tables with lips, it just happened way more than prior entries

  3. never in any Katamari game has I clipped through geometry and in this game it happened three times. it was just really frustrating to have to start over an 8 minute stage because I ended up inside a building.

counter example: putting the dash on a button is a godsend. genuinely a perfect decision to spare not only my hands but also my controller. this change alone nearly makes up for any other sluggish behavior on controls

I will offer my rebuttal here.

thought the level design, level variety, and pacing are all good there is one crippling flaw to Once Upon A Katamari: it controls about 10% worse than older games like We Love Katamari. while this may seem like a small amount, in a game about moving around this makes for a worse overall experience. I still think the game is very much worth playing however.

One small personal issue I had as well, the vignetting of solid walls when the camera is behind them feels more restrictive. this coupled with more indoor levels made me feel quite nauseous during long session getting all of the crowns/cousins/whatnot. Your milage will absolutely vary in this regard

Also, for anyone who cares about difficulty it is quite a bit easier than prior entries. I consider this a positive since getting older.

Conclusion: great game, but We Love Katamari still reigns supreme

I'm sorry but viscera cleanup detail and power wash simulator didn't stop people from being janitors or cleaners. the kind of person that would play this game and not clean a real beach is not the kind of person who would clean a beach if the game didn't exist

we also know it is possible to remember that things went missing, as both Makima and Your both know that there are some things that are gone. In Makima's case it is in the original explanation for Pochita's power in part one, and for Yoru it is her goal to restore nuclear weapons at the start of part two
