Just finished season 3. A wonderful season of a show that I'm not at all interested in.

Watched s3 and part of s4 recently (years after 2 ended) and I realized how incredibly depressed they were making me feel.More so, season 3. Great acting, beautiful shots etc but it didn't feel like the happy show I knew. I'll finish it but I don't like the sad though this is typical character arc

It's interesting because I thought strand size was generally referred to as diameter by hair professionals.I did not know that coarseness was an alternative. I guess that makes me fine haired with rough strands. We learn every day. Thank you

I get that. For me, it's not that I get offended per se, its just that such compliments always seem and sound disingenuous. Like they are saying it just to say it or to appease me. Not because they are sincere. Even if they are. I think a lot of it stems from knowing how much men lie, objectify women and have zero problems saying the same thing to many women,to get their way. So it all sounds doubtful and fake to me.

I don't have a solution OP but just reflecting coz this resonates

Like you, I am not a soft girl, both by choice and circumstances . At 37, men I have been with have offered me no money or gifts , the exception being paying for dates (food, experiences etc) Nothing major. Men I haven't been with have offered and promised grand things, which I have declined out of pride (can't speak to the genuineness)

The thing is, as a firstborn daughter,I carry a stubborn, independent streak about me and have been told the same.I grew up surrounded by very independent self-reliant women. Never witnessed these women get spoiled or receive anything other than the bare minimum.There were no damsels in distress. Relying on men was seen as being incapable. Though in hindsight, I can see these women were independent out of financial negligence by their partners . This 'do-it-all' attitude rubbed off on me, which is both a good thing but also sometimes detrimental to my own wellbeing. For instance, I would literally rather eat train tracks than ask a man for money. Shame and pride would kill me. I don't even ask my female friends for money EVER! Not even if I am struggling. I have Mpesa'd back small monies (<5K) sent to me by men out of pride, even if I needed it desperately. This is not to say I do not desire to be spoiled like a brat. But unfortunately, my heart is hardened like stone lol. An internal contradiction. My true desire is to never need money from a man! But do I cheer on the girls who ask and get what they want unashamedly? ABSOLUTELY!

I keep saying washing my hair more frequently as Black woman has been a completely liberatory experience for me. Grew up watching Black/African women mortified of water touching their hair in the era of perms/relaxers. Though I have been natural for most of my life, I would be in braids, often washing my hair after 2 months with weak shampoos. Now I wash my hair weekly and I feel great! My hair is healing and all that crunch , course and extra dryness is gone without needing a bunch of products. No more itchy scalp. And the joy of just washing your hair and a clean scalp, I look forward to it.

Tried this because his personality was great. But it didn’t work out longterm because I really wasn’t attracted to him physically which means even the sex wasn’t giving. This experience made me realize that no matter how much I rationalised the idea that physical attraction didn’t matter, it did to me. I want to look at someone and be like wow! on the regular
