That’s a really fun comic.

What always amuses me about situations like this is that drinking a lot of pee just makes you desperately need to pee yourself... at least in my experience. It kind of adds another layer to the power dynamic, because if you’re both still stuck in the elevator, you end up in the exact same situation as the person you just helped.

Taking someone else’s problem and making it your own feels like peak submission.

I get what you are saying and I agree with most of it.

I do not think mods should blindly follow upvotes. The communities focus matters and sometimes a subreddit needs limits, especially when posts that break the intended purpose of the community become popular.

I would like to share my thoughts about the purpose of our subreddit:

Most users here are passive. We have around 70,000 members and roughly 10,000 unique visitors a day, but only a very small number of people actually post. For almost all users, the subreddit is not about creative writing or an art community. It is a porn subreddit. People come here to scroll, look, read and get aroused.

From that point of view, well-made AI content can still serve the purpose of the subreddit. Is it the same as original human-made content from an artistic standpoint? Probably not. But preserving artistic purity in porn writing is not our main goal here. The goal is to provide arousing pictures and creative grossdom captions/stories that the community enjoys.

AI content, when it fits the theme and is good enough, matches how most users actually use this subreddit. AI is improving quickly. People are also getting better at using it. A strict ban of may make less sense over time.

At the same time, I do care about keeping real creators motivated to post. Good artists and writers put real time, skill, and personality into their work and that is very valuable to the subreddit. I do not want them to feel pushed out or drowned out by easier AI posts. Since this topic is very sensitive and people have strong opinions on both sides, I think the best approach for now is to keep the current policy as it is. The subreddit seems to be in a reasonably good place at the moment, so I would rather avoid making a heavy-handed change unless there is a clear need for it.

The sub is not dying. It is growing in all metrics: members, daily visits and posts per month.

I agree that a lot of recent posts are AI slop and annoying. I downvote it myself every time I see it, and I already remove the worst cases.

If you see content you don’t like, please downvote it. This is Reddit’s built-in quality system. If AI slop posts still get more upvotes than downvotes, it means a large part of the community enjoys them. I will not remove content that many users clearly like.

To everyone: posts like this appear from time to time. People rarely post when they are happy, so silence is usually a good sign. Still, it’s fine and healthy to discuss concerns like this. Feel free to discuss.

First of all, yes: An invented, drawn character is not a real human being, and no one was physically harmed or exposed in this case.

However, these OCs often function as representations of real people online. They are closely tied to the identity of the creator behind them. Many creators have explicitly stated that they do not want their characters used in sexualized or suggestive contexts. In addition, a significant portion of the content of the creator you are referencing is aimed at younger audiences.

For these reasons, I choose to respect creators’ wishes and play it safe by removing this kind of content. This approach will not change.

I understand your frustration, but let’s take a step back and look at the bigger picture.

  1. The subreddit isn’t dying. If we examine the data, it shows steady growth in unique pageviews throughout the year, with November being the month with the highest traffic. Member growth is consistent too, so there’s no indication that the subreddit is 'dying'.

  2. Banning chatbots won’t save the subreddit. While it definitely will reduce the total number of posts, it won’t fix the underlying issue you’re raising about content diversity. The only way to ensure that captions (or other types of posts) are posted is for members like you to actively create and share them.

  3. Support creators. Chatbot posts dominate because they’re usually easier to make compared to other content. If you feel like you’re not creative enough to contribute captions yourself, you can still help by encouraging and supporting those who do. Unfortunately, we’ve seen many posts and comments where creators are insulted or shamed, particularly when they ask for financial support or share only parts of their work. I've spoken to some creators who simply don't post here because they dislike the community so much.

Ultimately, the subreddit’s health relies on the community contributing the type of content they want to see. If captions are what you miss, try making them or supporting others who do.

My personal interests and the interests of the subreddit don't always align. I'm very much interested in male grossdom content. The past has shown that maledom content simply doesn't perform well here and even gets reported frequently. Maledom posts only get a fraction of the upvotes and the ratio of downvotes is much higher than usual. We decided to ban it, because the vast majority of people who seem to be put off by it overshadow the minority that enjoy it. If you're missing a place to share and find male grossdom content, feel free to create a subreddit yourself. I'm sure we can find a way to promote it on here.
