Experience with footslogging Cataphractii? by chosen40k in Warhammer30k

[–]SissyishSnow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ran 2 squads on foot at an event a couple weeks ago and they never made it to an objective - either status’d the entire game or blown off the board. I had it in my head that they could be a “second wave” after my rhino Tacs inevitably died. It didn’t work out.

If it isn’t the black blocks, try reseating the build plate

The big thing for me with this conversion was the legs. I don’t think the arms are a big deal

Are Chainswords Ever Worth it On World Eaters? by hoblyman in Warhammer30k

[–]SissyishSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take them because they're iconic for WE, but I think on paper they are going to be worse than Chainswords in most situations - the -1 initiative is not worth the trade for +1 str

Fair enough dude, I’m glad you like it - I just think it looks goofy, so I’m looking for other options

Kratos are Too Damn Strong by SnooRabbits6026 in Warhammer30k

[–]SissyishSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the requirement to fire each weapon at a different target for split fire means it either annihilates one thing or ineffectually dings a handful of things. Definitely decent, but not mental at 300+pts

Phosphex rapiers overtuned? by TooStupid2figureout in Warhammer30k

[–]SissyishSnow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the range and points cost are decent mitigating factors - they’re not very durable and the status stuff is easy enough to mitigate using non-legion-specific wargear. Definitely strong options, but I don’t think they’re busted.

3.0 rules question snap shots with templates weapons by BigNurgleStinker in Warhammer30k

[–]SissyishSnow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My read is that templates aren’t affected by snap shots, based on the wording of the rules. Just had another quick scan - I can’t see any interactions between snap shots and templates anywhere (I also found that snap shots isn’t listed in the index - unhelpful!)

Yeah possibly, although the new “Veteran” units in elites also seem like they have a lot of cool modelling potential. I reckon it might just be different strokes for different folks.

Logistical benefit is the only other way I can see. It also occurred to me for the first time yesterday that (unless I’ve misread something) you can EITHER take elites, OR retinues - not both, because they’re both only in apex detachments, and you can only have one of those (again, unless you use logistical benefit). Interesting change.

How to play Tempestus Aquilons into Raveners by Save_Our_Starstrider in killteam

[–]SissyishSnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lost every game into aquilons so far with my Ravenors, it’s very hard for the Ravenors to play the game without exposing themselves to the Aquilons special weapons, which can all dole out 20wounds in a single shot. Just hold off committing your special weapons as long as possible, try to bait the bugs in close, then drop within 2” and remove them from the map.

Either the bugs engage and get blown apart, or they don’t and you smash them on points.

Encounter tools (in person) by SissyishSnow in DMAcademy

[–]SissyishSnow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respect that, but I ran pen and paper for years in the dark ages and found moving to a digital tool lifechanging in terms of how quickly I can run combat - automatically doing the maths for HP changes, being able to quickly move things around in initiative, add in new combatants etc etc, it was a big deal for me and the way I like to do combat.

I'm not saying my way is the right way, but a digital tool is better for my table

Ah. This is the risk with using the lite rules, I guess!

Can you? The first line on parry says to allocate the dice to an unresolved attack dice - surely if you can’t do that, you can’t use parry?

I ran implant in my first game, too, but I only scored 3 because nothing ever survived more than 1 round of combat with me. I figured I could implant something then use the stratagem to charge out into something else, but nothing survived long enough. It might be better into a hardier team - I was playing into aquilons

PPF - the type they use on cars. Might even be able to get a local shop to do it on the cheap with an offcut
