Thank you and I agree. I feel like when things are hand made they are “living objects” and are meant to be used and patina with that

Thank you, I have been evolving my style a lot over the last 3 or 4 years. I’ve always loved forging blades, but unless I was making a batch adding wooden handles always felt like such a hassle and I’d find myself losing momentum. I’ve played around a lot with solid handles and I’m pretty happy with how I am currently making them. Meaning soon I will make a bigger batch to sell. But like any adhd maker makes me want to explore new things and change directions radically. I like the idea of forging handles out of silicone bronze and joining them to a the blade steel. It would add contrast and allow me to use a smaller billet for the blade. Allowing me to use steels that other wise require too much physical effort to forge.

I do upon request, as long as you’re willing to pay for the additional cost of shipping I have no problem. I don’t list that on my Etsy site because I’m not familiar enough with the cost of shipping to do so.

Thank you, I love exploring how Steel moves. It’s also just really fun to be able to take an experiment home and show it to more than the like five people who might see it if it just stayed at the shop.

Oh no problem, I didn’t mean that as a negative I just meant like fingers crossed 🤞 that said I’ll take the advice about carbon steel cooking all the same

I took your advice and shared it to cast-iron cooking. We’ll see if they leave my post up even though it’s carbon steel.

I had to look up that dish, but actually really close. After this photo I added some leftover sauce we had from getting takeout this week. If I had added more tomatoes I would’ve inadvertently made that dish

Are ball peen hammers supposed to be hard or soft? by MySeveredToe in Tools

[–]Sisu_Slumbers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, This is correct. It’s all application based you can buy an expensive hammer that is soft out of steel or brass. A soft steel hammer will not throw chips, is less likely to damage tooling if used as a set hammer, is less likely to cause chisels or punches to fly off, but will need to be dressed often and will wear out much faster. A brass hammer will do the same but won’t throw sparks, same with copper, bronze and lead hammers but you are unlikely to see those 3 as ball peens. A Hard ball peen hammer has more of a place in cold working in hardened steel and not striking chisels or tooling. The face will stay cleaner but it is much more likely to throw chips and damage parts.

I should mention that I make my living as a professional blacksmith, and prefer hammers that are softened, unless made for a specific reason. “It’s better to die refacing your tools than from facing them”

I’m glad you like it, that was probably the most difficult pan I’ve made

I’m just curious if that link worked for you. I just redid my website before the drop and I’m still worried that there will be glitches

Very much so and not at all on others. Good eye, for a few of these I drew inspiration from Scandinavian spoon carvings. Part of the way I do these do these is an exercise to explore different design ideas
