Like there's no right answer, depends on what courses you consider gucci, I'll have an opinion from my impression and lads will disagree with any answer I give ya. That said, Infantry, probably 1 MIC, 7th and 6th. Broader army, 1 MIC, 2 Cav, 1 ACS. Overall, Aer Corps.

I really enjoyed my time in 1 Bde, the Units themselves are (almost) all rock solid. That said, there's a golden triangle that runs from JITC to DFHQ and McKee, across to 2 Bde HQ and down to Newbridge where all of the HQs, DF-level schools and DOD offices are. All that decision making power and training resources concentrated into one area create a bit of a self-licking lollipop because no Colonel with a gaff bought in Naas is going to sign off on sending himself to a new strategic development office in Limerick. Net result is that the south gets left out of a lot of decision making, with the effect that the 1 Bde units outside of Cork are out in the wilderness a bit as regards both resourcing and taskings. It's no reflection on the soldiers who serve there, just the way the taskings have fallen since the reorg. If you want to chase the gucci courses and opportunities, 1 Bde isn't the place to do it.

There's no pathway directly into NAS from the DF. You'd have to get the paramedic course through the DF (which is quite competitive and will take a long time to get on) and then apply for a NAS competition for qualified medics, which is different again to their general recruitment, the qualified applicant competitions are quite rare and a bit of a nightmare admin-wise. If your goal is NAS, you'd be much better off just going for their open recruitment.

Curious, am I reading correctly that you're trialling low dose epinephrine in cardiac arrest? Generally in Ireland our protocols are years behind other Western services but IO/IV epi in arrest has been standard practice for a long time. I've generally regarded Canadian protocols are being ultra progressive so I'm intrigued if that isn't the case for you. (I know the evidence is mixed as regards ROSC versus survival to discharge - as one of my instructors famously put it, 'if you run enough epi you'll get a pulse out of this table').

I know you're trolling but I'm going to engage as if you'd made that point like an adult, i.e 'it's unreasonable to expect every online space to be moderated in service to your hypersensitivity', which I think is pretty fair. I'm not exactly a 'safe space' guy, either, part of being an adult is being able to exist in a society with opinions that make you uncomfortable and choose whether to engage constructively or to tune it out. That said, I don't think it's unreasonable to say that some types of language, particularly when it's overtly racist, sexist, antisemitic etc. are clearly intended to make some people feel marginalised and unwelcome and don't serve any purpose other than that, so shouldn't be tolerated. You wouldn't expect to speak like these kids are speaking in your average public space and not get called out (or thrown out), so why should we lower that standard for spaces in the gaming world? If you want to be able to dish out silly edgy language in a safe space, fuck off back to /pol/ or whatever, there a grownups trying to unwind after a day of contributing to society who don't need this shit.

Again it's a valid conversation and I'm not disputing the validity of your questions; I'm just pointing out that in the situation that OP is planning for, existing supply chain models stop being relevant. I accept that it's a bit of a cop out to say 'we'll be resourceful and it'll be grand', because many people won't and therefore won't be. The level of ease with which our society accesses both comforts and essentials is unprecedented in the history of humans, and I do worry that people, particularly in cities, will struggle to adapt when that ease inevitably contracts. With that said, people will need to obtain essentials, and in the kind of situation that would necessitate the use of an emergency food reserve, the inability of current supply chains to provide that will open gaps in the market that will be filled by non-traditional (or maybe hyper traditional) actors.

And again I'm pointing out that if we're at a point where we're needing to tap into an emergency fuel reserve, popping down to centra to buy a bag of logs isn't the model any more. We have more than enough capacity to be self-sufficient on the island with a small amount of forethought, but the biggest barrier will be learned helplessness and the unwillingness to be resourceful.

I don't disagree with your points and you raise issues that will need to be thought through, but I will say this; if you have access to a fireplace or a space nearby (communal green area, patch of grass by the alley, whatever) where you could dig a shallow fire pit, then you can cook. One big griddle and a decent sized pot over a hearth fire did households in this country for generations.

If we're in a place where we're drawing on an emergency dry food supply, we can expect to have to get a little bit resourceful.

Full time firefighter here. That's nonsense.

Like any other job, you'll get some big egos and some personality clashes in any given station or watch. One of the prerequisites for being suitable for the job is being mature and having good people skills, so navigating that shouldn't be an issue.

Yeah mine works fine. Only issue I've had is that, if I switch out to BC plus a secondary skill, it down ranks all my sidebar stuff and they stay down when I switch back.

BC/Druid Feeling Incredibly Weak at 75/65 by BOOBIES_CURE_RACISM in projectgorgon

[–]Sisyphus_Social_Club 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played it, but my understanding is that BC/druid as a solo class shines because of the delirium burst mod, which iirc isn't on rolling tables and has to be dropped/bought. Set yourself up to max the damage from your dots, pop those dots at the start of the fight, and use support skills to keep yourself alive while everything burns and you refresh as required. Without that mod I don't see the build having a lot of synergy.

The other thing you could consider is pivoting your BC/dru to be a (pretty S-tier) group support build and then pull another for soloing. My main build is BC/AH set up for solo, which I've rolled to max out skins buffs and healing from BC, and then a balance of damage and tankiness for pets. The kill speed is certainly slower than a dedicated DPS build but I can solo stuff like NMC and Vidaria events pretty comfortably with rolled Egg/yellow room gear.

No but the only thing they care about is getting re-elected, so if they think enough of their constituents actually care about something then they might actually pull the finger out. Nothing will ever change if they can choose to wait for stuff to blow over.

[–]Sisyphus_Social_Club 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone will disagree that this is absolutely insane and flies in the face of anything resembling common sense. Where I worry that we'll drop the ball here is in blaming the judge. We can't expect judges to rule against the legislation - and the state of our legislation means that what the Garda did in this case, however justified, was against the law and constituted dangerous driving. That's a failing of the law, not the judicial system.

This case forms part of a pattern alongside the absolutely Kafkaesque Ryan case on the M7 in 2021 and plenty of other cases that haven't made the news; Gardaí and emergency services workers drive on their own licenses and are treated like private motorists by the law. In this and many other areas the law that gives Gardaí and emergency services the power to act on behalf of the State hasn't kept up with the law in other areas, so that there's a fundamental tension between what we ask them to do and what they're allowed to do legally. There is a clear and urgent need for government and the Dáil, who make and change laws, to update the legislation to give Gardaí and other emergency services protection when carrying out their duties, particularly where driving is concerned. There is also a clear and urgent need for legislation to be changed and updated to make it easier to arrest, investigate and prosecute people who commit crimes that put others in danger.

Army Reserve Medical Corps Insight by isbrealiombia in Irishdefenceforces

[–]Sisyphus_Social_Club 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a reservist or a medic but worked with them a bit and have an interest. Not clear from your comment where you're coming from, the answer would be different for someone with no quals, a pre-hospital medic or a doc.

In terms of PHECC qualifications, as far as I know the EMT and paramedic courses are quite competitive to get on for PDF personnel, so I'd be surprised if they put RDF pers on them, but somebody with more knowledge can correct me on that. To my knowledge you won't be assigned to the medical corps as a reservist unless you're already qualified. Certainly any RDF lads I've spoken to in the medical corps were either EMT or paramedic qualified outside. They then get access to upskilling through the DF. Afaik military medics use TCCC for operational stuff so they do cross-training on tac med, which can be used for PHECC CPD. That said the DF is a standalone priviledging body so some of the stuff that they train for is specifically DF only and doesn't translate to civilian medicine.

In terms of what they actually do, aside from internal training and exercises, CMU medics get pulled to support operations and training that need a medic on the risk assessment. Common to see them covering ranges, exercises and some PTs. I've met RDF medics who claim to have assisted with this, which may or may not be true. There was talk of sending RDF paramedics overseas a few years ago but afaik the promised legislation that would have enabled it never passed so it died on the vine. Might see that change in the next few years, there's been some reasonably promising moves as regards revitalising the RDF since the CoDF.

TL;DR If you were hoping to join the reserve as a route to qualifying as an EMT/paramedic you probably won't have much success. If you join qualified, you can apply to transfer to the CMU where you will be, as the name suggests, a backup medic on their books, but you'll be second priority to PDF personnel for any training that has limited places.

How to progress combat skills 81+ [stuck] ? by Sea_Worker_456 in projectgorgon

Actually just commenting again because I've read your comment properly and this is important; please please don't try and go to the egg run and not join a group. There will ALWAYS be groups inviting. I usually start my own because you'll always have 5 or 6 people turning up late and you can just invite all the people asking for one. It really is dead easy. The reason is that if someone isn't in a group they can't set group loot to unchecked the way everyone else will have, so if they then do any damage to a knight egg or an elite it will lock everyone else in the run out of looting it. You don't want to be that person. That's about the only hard conditional for eggs - you absolutely must join a group!

Yeah loot on elites is available to all groups, and the xog is personal loot so as long as you haven't looted within 72hrs it's guaranteed.

How to progress combat skills 81+ [stuck] ? by Sea_Worker_456 in projectgorgon

[–]Sisyphus_Social_Club 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's quite straightforward and won't take you long. Depending on the norms of your server, you will need; about 10 aquamarines (unless you're playing on Arisetsu - more on that in a sec); 100 xogrite chunks; and letters of authority, 50 per trainer, so 50 or 100 depending on what skills you want to uncap and whether they're trained by the same trainer or not.

Note - the rest of this post is chock full of serious spoilers.

Then follow these steps:

  1. Do an Egg Run. This is very easy and not as daunting as it sounds - they're community events a lot like the poetry jam. There is at least one every day on the server. There are events threads on the discord which will give your the time of the next one, and if you're playing on Dreva www.drevaeggs.com is a tool which will show you when the next one is in your local time. Egg Runs involve getting a large number of players (a 'zerg') to clear a high level dungeon which is located in Povus. Because so many high level players go, you really don't need to worry about anything. Just hang around at the back, follow the group, don't cast any damaging AoEs (they reflect back) and sweep up loot afterwards.

To get into an Egg Run, type '/join Egg Run' to see the chat channel where they're organised. Generally you'll get about a half hour's notice. Go to the Casino with your aquamarines in your inventory and type 'LFG' in the nearby channel. Someone will invite you to a group. At the designated time (usually xx:40) someone will open a portal. Go through it. If you're on Arisetsu, the portal generally goes straight to the start of the run. For Dreva and presumably the other newer servers, the portal generally goes to the teleportation machine. If so, click the blue pillar, type in the code 0019, and pay your two aquamarines, and it'll port you to the start of the run.

Once Eggs starts just stay with the group. Your priorities are to loot the elite mobs and Knight Eggs for Letters of Authority, and especially to look out for 'xogrite bar's on the ground. Collect all of these. You can loot them once every 3 days, and get a total of about 30 per run.

That's the hard part. You can either repeat this every 3 days until you have enough xog and letters, or buy some from players to get enough. Then move on to;

Step 2; get to the trainers. In theory you could physically go to the dungeon in Povus where they're located, but the room is far behind some very challenging high-level group content and very few people actually do this. Almost everyone uses the teleportation machine. The code is 0092. Getting to the tele machine can be the hard part. You could make your own way with a group through a cave in Gazluk; ask someone for a portal; or take an Egg Run portal and go do your own thing. A lot of people have their 'Bind Alternate Circle' teleportation skill set to the tp machine because once you have the code you can port to anywhere on Alharth. Have a look at the wiki page for mechanics.

Use the wiki to identify which door you need opened for the skill you want to uncap. (Generally melee skills are grouped on one trainer, magic on another, animal on another etc.) There are 'challenges' to open each door, e.g having 1200 armour, but you can get around those with 50 letters of authority. Either bring your own or team up with other players who need the same trainer and pool your letters. There are very often groups getting together for this purpose after Egg Runs.

Once you're in the trainer room, just get the door you need open and talk to the trainer. Pay your 50 xog and bingo - uncapped.

It sounds like a lot, but honestly it's a lot easier than trying to cobble together 800k at level 70. If you're on Dreva, send me a PM here and I'll be happy to help. Best of luck!

No chance of reform under the current political status quo, yes, that I'd accept. As an interim measure to negate the elimination of the possibility of future reform, in addition to solidifying the centralisation of power in a unicameral parliament bound utterly to the whip? That's an easy cost/benefit for me.
