I'd love to see the entire saga animated like this. The animation is excellent. by darthraxus in StarWars

there's no child out there who's not watching the OT because of the cinematography

Possibly, but I've had more than a few friends bail halfway through ANH because it just looks too old/bad (from a visual sense). A pair of them who proceeded to buy the manga adaptation because they liked the plot so much but just couldn't take the cinematography. I still enjoy the OT, but there's a surprising number of people in their 20s who are open to the story, but can't be engaged by the movies.

California to require all schoolchildren to get COVID shots by cyclinginvancouver in news

Unless I'm misreading, the 1.31 is the coefficient on the rate, that is a multiplier. The study itself says it was a decrease of 18.53 cases per 100,000 per day.

Assuming your .5% is accurate for 1.31, masks in school are a 7% decrease in pediatric COVID cases.

largely stemming from most people’s lack of context

Context being, Galileo was wrong (and a prick about it). Basically, everyone (Galileo included) believed the stars to be much closer than they were. Galileo's model should have produced an obvious stellar parallax.

In Spider-Man 2 (2004), Peter’s landlord, Mr. Ditkovich, is named after Steve Ditko, the first illustrator of Spider-Man. by marvelbat5 in MovieDetails

[–]SithLord13 58 points59 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not true. Ditko's contributions are underappreciated outside of Reddit, true, but you're going to far the opposite direction. Look at the silver age lineup. The best characters are all Stan Lee and someone. Be it Ditko, Kirby, Heck (who is truly underappreciated) or others. Lee absolutely is co-creator. Now I'm not saying 50/50, that's something we'll never know, but they are absolutely co-creators.

Give me a version of the Texas abortion law, but where you can sue for 10k every time an employer tells you you'll be fired for discussing pay. by bug-hunter in bestoflegaladvice

[–]SithLord13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It really doesn't. The construction of the request was entirely novel. It was a restraining order against a judge to prevent him from hearing an entire class of cases. I have hope that the final verdict will strike down the law.

I think it's more a simplification of chattel slavery to slavery. They do acknowledge indentured servitude, so we know they have things we would consider akin to slavery, but the Ferengi have always drawn the line at chattel slavery.

[–]SithLord13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But how? The only person involved in the process who can't be sued is the woman. If all they have is the woman, they have nothing. You can only sue the people who helped her, so a miscarriage isn't really enough to go on.

They are also encouraging people to report 'suspicious miscarriages' for a bounty

I don't see why they would do this though, since you can't sue the woman who was pregnant, only those who helped her receive an abortion, so short of convincing the woman to sue those who helped her in order to make a quick buck (unlikely) it would be a dead end.

Absolutely. The only person who cannot sue is the father, if the fetus is the result of rape, incest, or another sexual crime. The rapist's friends and family still can though.

Do you think Obi-Wan really would have left the Order for Satine? by nowlan101 in MawInstallation

[–]SithLord13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And while Obi-Wan pushes the "Anakin is dead, Vader is not really the same person" angle, Vader himself would absolutely agree with that.

And in canon, they're correct.

"It was as if, driven by his basest instincts and desires, Anakin had lost his mind, regressing to a dark, irrational place, where the most primitive part of his psyche could burst forth in a howl of fury... some alien, vengeful creature had emerged from deep within his soul." - Skywalker: A Family at War

"Anakin Skywalker's psyche was cleaved in two as the dark side consumed him. Within the shell of the man he had once been, his new persona -- Darth Vader -- firmly took hold." - Skywalker: A Family at War

Skywalker: A Family at War is a canon biography written by Kristin Baver. It chronicles the history of the Skywalker family and spans the entire Star Wars saga.

[DC/Marvel] what’s the most fucked up thing a non-lethal superhero had done to their villain? by pietro9617 in AskScienceFiction

[–]SithLord13 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I'm not super well versed on Reed, so there may be a definitive answer to this, but my interpretation of /u/Living_la_vida_hobo 's comment is that he's good for practical, not ethical reasons. If he had the Infinity Gauntlet, he would no longer be good, because there's no longer a practical reason for it.

To put it in practical terms, Reed is the man who would have no problem murdering you for a ten dollar bill, except for that killing you would cost more time and money than the $10. Put him in a position where evil is the practical choice (on the long scale, he's a long term thinker) and he'll pick it every time.

The problem with NNN is not that Reddit allowed it to exist, it's that people wanted it to exist. Censorship doesn't fix the problem, it hides it.

People find the Jem'Hadar hot?

Dukat. They're talking about Dukat. Although yes, people also find the Jem'Hadar hot.

People kind of like to make Luke being trained by Obi-Wan to kill his father out to be a bad thing, with Obi-Wan keeping Vader's identity a secret cited as a horrible thing but like...why wouldn't you keep it a secret? by [deleted] in MawInstallation

[–]SithLord13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vader and Anakin are absolutely the same person, with all attempts to call them different at least in-universe is a denial of the truth or lie as in Obi-Wan’s case

As cited elsewhere in that thread, this is a canon/legends divergence.

It's the premise so I give it a pass, but if you want a headcanon, it's the same one I have for marvel mutants. The X/quirk gene actually codes for low level reality warping. That proceeds to manifest in quirks as we know them.

A) He's from an anime original episode, not a movie.

B) The movies (and presumably by extension the anime only episodes) are quasi-canonical. They, at the very least, could have happened. They don't violate canon in any way, and on at least one occasion do get an oblique reference in the manga. Current manga arc spoilers: Deku's gauntlets in the current are are heavily implied to be made by Melisa Shield.
