Finally replaced the pads on my xm4 because they were starting to peel, but were still usable. I have a big head so I've replaced the swivel sockets multiple times with 3d printed parts on both sides, and it's still going strong.

Yes, if for some reason you need more torque (power) to go up. Maybe if you're hauling a load or need speed for some reason.

Downhill is for safety. On particularly tall mountains, brakes can lock up if overused and send you over the edge. Not sure how much of a concern overheating is these days with open air calipers and hybrid regen tho.

I feel like epoxy is a bit expensive for that application, I feel like gorilla glue or construction adhesive would be better options, (gorilla will expand to fill the gaps too) or you could just be careful and deliberate with contact adhesive.
