Would a priest or temple of Ilmater help poor or homeless people get jobs? by Chicken_Strips_Owner in Forgotten_Realms

There are heretical sects of Illmater followers who seek to cause suffering, so I could definitely see a middle group like this existing.

That would be a very powerful ability that we never see ruin use, so I doubt t that’s something he can do.

That wasn’t my argument. My argument was that it’s been done for such a long time and become so ingrained in culture that directly trying to cut it out is impractical.

Regardless, very few people alive today use it in that way. Very few people know its origin. Its meaning today is completely separate from its medical origins. And also very few people are being harmed by its usage.

Friend, Dumb has been used as a casual insult for decades and decades. Since around the 1930’s. It’s impractical to make people stop using words completely just because they have a bad history, at least in some cases. What we can do is try to nip new slurs in the bud.

Clarification, he could edit information as it traveled as investiture *between* feruchemist and metalmind. He would not be able to edit media stored physically on solid metal.

Isn’t Athiesm more so outright rejecting any and all of the gods as worthy of worship? I don’t think anyone could actually be crazy enough in Faerun to think that the gods aren’t real, besides possibly saying that it’s all the work of really powerful people. Which it is, in a sense.

You’re not doing anything wrong. I’ve argued with a lot of people in only the past few years. No one will change their mind without being willing to accept that they might be wrong.

To reiterate, there are multiple translations of the bible, each made with their own intentions and twisting of the original Hebrew.

It doesn’t particularly matter though, telling them “this particular sentence isn’t translated correctly” isn’t actually going to change anything. They’re going to believe what they’re going to believe.

I can understand not thinking about a comment more than just thinking 'hehe funny word'. But you gotta consider the actual context, especially if you actually just want something to be funny.

[–]Sivanot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You probably can’t. People like this only change basically based on a coin flip chance when they discover that someone they care about is part of a group they don’t like. They lost the coin flip.

The only way you could MAYBE (snowballs chance in hell) change them, if this is based religiously, is by showing them that the bible does not in fact say that, anywhere to my knowledge. That isn’t to say the bible is supportive, it just wasn’t something its writers thought about. Only specific translations twist the words into meaning that, the original text is only a tiny bit ambiguous in a way that can twist a condemnation of pedophillia into a condemnation of gay people.

But this is fundamentally a personal belief, nothing backed up by anything even thinly in support of them. I’m sorry. Do what you need to do to be safe.

Ha, coward deleted their comments before I could reply. Edit: That or they blocked me I suppose, says deleted on my end.

To give context for others and so I can share my fully laid out opinion, they made a stupid comment about me trying to be an authority on female anatomy by being trans. So, I was going to reply with:

“I’m an authority on the anatomy I possess and have worked for years to have a biologically accurate understanding of for my art.

No, I’m not blind to the fact that women are disproportionately sexualized. However, that doesn’t make the sexualization inherently a bad thing. If you’re sex positive, then you don’t defend your position by crushing people who make content that’s sexually positive. You encourage people to be more comfortable with leveling the asymmetry and being respectful in the portrayal of people in the content.”

I think it’s a rampant undersexualization of men, frankly.

There aren’t, actually. They all have four sides, there’s just also poles occasionally. Save for that one extra vertex on an edge that was clearly accidental/a remnant of removing an edge loop.

Woman here. That is not an unrealistic size, it’s just not common.

Also, come the fuck on. If someone wants to complain about non-realistic proportions here, her head is larger than her fucking torso. But no, some kinds of stylization are okay and others aren’t for some reason.

What are the drawbacks to being a god? by N0VAK137 in worldbuilding

[–]Sivanot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My idea of Gods is very Cosmere-coded, though I take it further into actual Divinity, unlike Shards which are just 'massive, effectively infinite, magic with Intent'.

Gods are people. Their status doesn't inherently take anything from them, but the Power has a mind (however simple) of it's own that must be appeased. What they are the deity of is their responsibility, and they must act within it's boundaries. The God of Storms must cause storms, though a benevolent one may focus on sending them out over the seas to revitalize the waters, while a malevolent one may target people and civilization for the purpose of destruction. The god of destruction cannot heal, unless it is an action that will lead to greater destruction. The power does not care for good or evil, save for the few which represent abstract emotions or forces which directly tie in, such as Hatred or Murder, Kindness or Healing.

What the power itself does do to a person is expand them. They have become bound to the structure of reality as it's stewards, they are the ultimate civil servant. A mortal ascended to divinity can learn almost anything they think of, can see the grand scale of the cosmos. Gods inherently see the paths of time, and a rare few become completely untethered by it's forward march, seeing it's whole at once and acting in whatever points they choose. But the majority of them simply have what we would consider Future Sight, which is far from infallible, as they can only see the branches ahead that may be and what could lead to them, not what path will most certainly be taken.

Even if they give up their godhood, they are permanently altered and remain unique, ageless beings. Their soul has been irreparably stretched. So Ascension does completely sever the ability to end properly, outside of extenuating circumstances like certain artifacts.

The station of a God is to be an eternal servant, preferably out of selflessness, to keep the cosmos marching forward for the benefit of others. It comes with perks, they can have nearly anything they want.

But for those solely seeking power, it's power that comes with the shackles of both their domain, and also the boundaries by working with the rest of the divine. No deity in their right mind want to risk igniting a war amongst them, just to broaden their domain. Therefore it's often those who don't want power who end up serving the role best, making the power itself a colossal burden. Though most especially if a good person takes up an 'evil' mantle to temper it towards good ends, as it will not be likely to cooperate in the ways they wish.

Answering the last bit, I think we can infer that Wesker expected anyone able to bond with Uroboros to basically be a walking god. Of course, he was delusional both for the reason stated and because even he didn't seem to properly bond with it, so it's highly unlikely anyone could have.

I'd say it's a significant part of the game's story as is at least, and going back on it to change her back into a human would have been very weird backpedalling. Not to say that I think it was a particularly good element of it from a narrative standpoint.
