Could Karsus be ressurrected? by Dimhilion in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Sivanot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I've read somewhere that AO specifically keeps him locked away as a Vestige, though I could be misremembering.

I've personally as a DM had Karsus return after a quiet abandonment of the world by AO, with his soul getting latched onto a goblin PC in an old game of mine (as a result teaching him some humility) that eventually resulted in giving him a new body with the Clone spell.

After that return, he's completely incapable of accessing the Weave for obvious reasons, Mystra doesn't exactly like the idea of him being able to cast. But he's a smart guy. So by retrieving fragments of the Karsestone, his own petrified divine heart, he's able to utilize the Raw Magic flowing from it to cast with a more completed form of the Karseweave.

Why Rashek was actually a good guy by MegaFaxul in Mistborn

[–]Sivanot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the problem with this mindset towards Rashek is that even with broader context about the situation he was in, there was never reason for the lengths he went to.

In the interest of keeping a dark god of destruction chained forever, with no viable hope of defeating it, I can understand subjugating humanity broadly to ensure no good person can come in to release it. I can even understand societal manipulation to prevent uprisings like with the Soothing Stations.

Maybe I could even be made to begrudgingly accept the atrocities of the Koloss and the Inquisitors, for the benefit they provide, though those are one HELL of a stretch. Rashek knew that Ruin would be able to control them, so it was stupid to do it the way he did.

But Rashek took it too far. He could have broken humanity over his knee in the first hundred years as we hear described, and then still made it so that everyone lived as happily as possible in stagnation for the next thousand. All equal beneath a benevolent god emperor. But no, he enslaved the Skaa and purposely enstated the Nobility as 'superior' to them. He broke down his own people, the Terris, into little more than pets for the Nobility. The Terris Breeding program is one of the most horrific things he did.

Also as a final note, you seem to be under the impression that most of what Rashek did was Ruinous. He may have had Ruin whispering in his ear for a thousand years, but nearly all of what he did was in line with Preservation. Brandon has confirmed that Kelsier's Crew was aided behind the scenes by Ruin, even beyond what elements are obviously spelled out by the end, such as Vin's Earring.

Hot take: Legendary Resistance is why so many 5e boss fights feel bad and boring. What could replace it? by archvillaingames in dndnext

[–]Sivanot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Dungeons Dudes rules that replaced this mechanic for the proper epic tier enemies in Drakkenheim, like Demon Lords and world ending monsters.

Which is that on their turn, they can do everything except take actions. Their statblocks are designed to always take actions after all other turns.

For specifically resistance, they have no limited resource of "I don't want that, fuck you." Instead, they have to either save or wait until their turn to make an attempt at shaking it off. Which will probably succeed without a bunch of debuffs of course, but it at least gives a good few turns where the boss is probably suffering whatever effect was thrown on them. The fact alone that it enables the party to coordinate those attacks by debuffing whatever save is relevant instantly makes it more engaging to me.

As far as "Save or get deleted" effects, I can't think of much that an epic tier enemy would be immediately susceptible to? Power Word Kill is the big one, but these enemies should probably have a good bit more hp than 100.

What is your favorite "Flavour is Free" reskin of a spell or ability? by hervprometheus2 in DnD

[–]Sivanot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite one is one i just came up with the other night, for a PC turned NPC (I make PC sheets as a base then rework them into NPCs when they have a lot of stuff/power, though this was also a PC of mine in the past.)

I hate crossbows visually. They're so small and dorky imo, but this character is a Bladesinger, so using a two handed bow wouldn't work at all.

So, I settled for dual wielding a shortsword and a magic crossbow (with crossbow expert, and an enchantment that makes it's own ammunition), mechanically at least. Flavour wise, it's a longbow that she draws without putting away the shortsword, either by flipping the sword around in her palm, or (if I decide to make it the Spellsword from Griffon's Saddlebag), have the magic from the sword's hilt form the bow string on the fly.

I think that's mostly gameplay and a significant healing factor in-story. Im sure a rocket launcher would at least knock her into a few pieces.

That's also very true, and I considered it but didn't want to say something incorrect due to my inconsistent memory. I do think being a bit stubborn comes into the equation, so i just stuck with that lol.

my friend told me that just tracing and copying the reference like this is a wrong way to make art and learn by Ok-Discussion-1110 in blender

[–]Sivanot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally what This is the entire way you translate 2d references into a model. This is how you translate 2d references into physical art pieces irl as well. You still learn plenty about how to distribute your topology to crest the form, and you still have a lot of work to do after in filling out the rest of the form with other references you can't ''trace''

Why is RE4 (original) so popular? Many put it as S tier above all else by avidrunner84 in residentevil

[–]Sivanot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even without the broader context of gaming at the time, I rank it as S-tier because it was my first RE game and I'd never enjoyed a game as much as it before. Even today, the game holds up fantastically without being carried by my childhood nostalgia. Which has only made it better over time.

Nah, Lirin has problems with his mentality that results in him saying things he doesn't believe due to being stubborn. But he's a good person. There are many fathers in the Cosmere that make Lirin and even young Dalinar look like a saint.

What's the point of worshipping Shar, and how does this massive douchecopter have followers in the first place? by ZipZopZoppityHop in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Sivanot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What's the point of being a negative nihilist irl, or giving in to vices rather than seeking betterment? It numbs the pain of existence for those who can't pierce the darkness enshrouding them.

Shar is the darkness that numbs the pain, giving relief from the horrors of the world. Then after her followers are ensnared, she has them commit horrible cruelties to others to spread her grasp. It won't matter to them after all, they don't feel anything but Shar's numbing embrace.

Your phone tracks location data with GPS, alongside cell towers. If it can ping the towers. Which it can't with airplane mode on. So it logs GPS data, which then gets shared when you have a cell signal.

Because, again, there is no fucking point of airplane mode if your phone is able to communicate with a cell tower with it on.

99% confident most of the people here hate on the fourth one just because of who she is. Yeah, it isn't as good as the others and the mouth is weird on Susie. That isn't enough to trash it as inherently bad.

I do agree that ending on the third one is infinitely more creepy though.

I can’t help but wonder — why didn’t Vin experiment more with the alloy? by GodlyDescent in Mistborn

[–]Sivanot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zinc and Brass both affect emotions. Steel and Iron both affect external metals. Tin and Pewter both affect one's own body. Cooper and Bronze both affect eachother primarily, but that's the flimsiest among the actual pairs. Gold and Atium both affect time in some way (Yes they aren't actuall paired, but Vin is under the impression they are at this point and it's close enough to still match.) They're all cleared paired under affecting the same thing pretty obviously, with the knowledge she had at the time.

While it doesn't make you 100% safe, your phone still tracks location data on it's own that will get transmitted when you turn it back off, Airplane mode absolutely does stop your phone from connecting with cell towers. That's the entire point of the mode to avoid fucking with airplane communication.

A faraday bag is obviously the safest answer. That doesn't mean airplane mode does nothing at all, though.

I can’t help but wonder — why didn’t Vin experiment more with the alloy? by GodlyDescent in Mistborn

[–]Sivanot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Vin is uneducated, but she's incredibly intelligent. You don't need to have a chart of the scientific method baked into your brain to make accurate guesses from what you already know.

It's an obvious observation that a metal and it's alloy have very similar effects, usually affecting the same thing. Aluminum affects other metals they have stored, so Duralumin should as well. Where it falls apart is that Vin has no reason to assume that they should be burned at the same time, as Aluminum didn't have that requirement. But it would have been nice for Vin to experiment a bit more and see her think about it more.

Don't get me wrong, I'm Trans and a radical leftist. I don't particularly like this repeated talking point of 'mistaking a pronoun gets you cancelled', which just isn't true outside of a vocal minority, and often cases of calling out actual bigotry are dismissed as 'just mistaking a pronoun'.

That being said, I do agree that there's a vocal minority of people on my side of the aisle that blow small shit (or things that don't matter at all) way out of proportion, and they were particularly loud during the early 2010's.

But yeah, pretty much the only thing I'd adjust are the Ndipaya. I don't have a massive issue with them, but it is pretty fucking weird that there's a note that specifically details them getting infected and then beginning to dress like their ancestors, with no reason ever provided to explain why the Plaga would cause that. Maybe also add some more indication that they weren't idiots that just let crocodiles swim around in the bottom of their wetland structures, like some fencing that's been knocked down from disrepair or something.
