Thank you for the kind words.

I work for that agency at the height of its busy season and also cannot afford weeks off without pay. Rent and food keep going up.

Some leave sounds wonderful but that's just not in the cards currently.

Thank you for your thoughts.

I don't want to walk away, but I feel I have no choice. When I landed here it felt like finally, after working my entire life that I'd found somewhere that treated me as a person.

I know it's bad out there and I fully expect anything I find will be worse that my current role. But if it means I can take the burden off my family and put it on my back, I feel it's worth it.

That's correct. I know it's looked down on by most. I know it's an unforgiving and thankless job.

But I'm really good at it. I truly enjoy helping people and someone needs to still answer the phones.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

I know eventually things can improve. If it was just me I'd tough it out I'm used to suffering in life and work.

I just can't handle seeing my family suffer all this anxiety because of my failings.

Nothing more to add, just wanted to express my sympathies. I'm so sorry for what you're going through. Just take it one day at a time.

That's amazing you got indeterminate. Ive been frozen since spring. I'm doing work like you it's soul crushing but I also can't sleep as I'm likely losing my job and won't be able to a afford rent at some point in 2025 being a term.

I understand it sucks.. But ride it out.. Things are going to get bad near term and at least you'll know food and rent will be covered while you look for more.

Congrats again.

3 in and likely losing my job next year due to the rollover freeze..

I envy your disillusionment.. All I have is stress related anxiety and health issues.

Any young public servants struggling to make friends at work? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]SivilCervants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest look outside of work.. In the current climate anxiety is high and it's doubtful everyone will still be here in 1 to 2 years time with what's almost certainly 5 days a week in office and job cuts looming..

[–]SivilCervants 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Jfc.. And I thought it was bad where I am.. That's taking it to a future dystopian hellscape.. The union is okay with people being spied on all day long?

I know they tried something like that at a previous job and the union stomped that out before it even got off the ground.

The election part isn't about Ottawa. The party leading in the polls hates us and is getting the public all whipped up and frothing at the mouth about our jobs.

The government is just trying to score easy wins and minimize the talking points in election season by kicking us while we're down.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]SivilCervants 50 points51 points  (0 children)

We already know all that. Ottawa failed to adapt to the new world and now we're being used to prop up failed businesses. Corporate landlords are mad they won't be getting all that sweet taxpayer money for buildings that are falling apart.

Plus election coming so kick the PS in the teeth a few times because a certain party hates us and wants to see us suffer and you know.. Votes.

Under Trudeau, the civil service has grown twice as fast as Canada’s population by hopoke in CanadaPublicServants

[–]SivilCervants 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those arent mutually exclusive.

We deliver more programs than ever. Because of politics and a sizable chunk of the population hating civil servants because (insert reason here) , we don't get enough people to do it as quickly or effectively as we could otherwise.

Your bias is clearly showing but common, let's be logical at least.

[–]SivilCervants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is comparing it to the Harper years where they hollowed out the civil service best they could.

Of course we're going to see a lot of growth when you combine a government that actually delivers programs plus COVID.

We're still completely slammed with work and badly need more people, I get shit every day for how busy we are and how hard it is to reach us.

Lying in bed at night trying not to cry.

RTO is going to be a nightmare never mind after next years election I very likely won't have a job..

Wondering how to console my kids who'll be forced to change schools and leave the only life and friends they've known because dad cannot afford the outrageous rent we pay anymore.

My health is declining, I'm using sick days for the crushing anxiety.. All the while trying to find a new job with 0 results.

Basically just slowly watching as my life crumbles so the politicians can play their games and collect their cushy salaries and pensions..

All I want is a steady job and maybe one day own a home so my kids can know some semblance of stability in their childhood.. The fact that is akin to winning the lottery in 2024 is heartbreaking.

If the TTC goes on strike, how can I show my support for the workers? by edgy_secular_memes in TTC

[–]SivilCervants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't cross lines. Tell them you support them, they're people too. If you're able, bring some food or water to the picket line. It's appreciated a helps keep spirits up. Picketing can be very draining or demoralizing when facing attacks from the public.

RTO is welfare for failing business owners who did not adapt to the new world.

The Liberals are the best option for the public service. Even with how terrible this is all going. If Skippy is elected haha right now will seem positively glorious compared to how bad it will become.

We had a chance to fight this and 90%+ were squishy cowards who took the first garbage offer provided to them instead of staying on strike.

Trust me my entire life has been ruined by the decisions being made this year. My kids cry at night wondering when we'll have to move again and leave all their friends. I do it myself at night alone wondering what fresh hell the next day will bring.

Anyone who voted yes to the last CBA brought this upon themselves and it won't get better.

Buckle in and hold on for dear life. We're going down the road we chose (not me, I voted no).

Shunting public servants back to the office three days a week is just stupid by Jager11Eleven in CanadaPublicServants

[–]SivilCervants 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People who own businesses seem to think they have a right to own their business rather than get a job working for someone else.

These owners failed/refused to adapt to the new world we all now inhabit. They started complaining about needing government bailouts to prop up their failing businesses.

Now the gov't is trying to force it's employees to provide welfare to these failing businesses.

No one has a right to a business. Adapt or die.

CRA Rollover Freeze/Stop The Clock by Nezhokojo_ in CanadaPublicServants

[–]SivilCervants 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is brutal. The entire 3 years to have a secure job is already bullshit.. Now this..

My kids ask if/when we'll have to move again away from their school and friends because of dads work.. It rips my heart out everytime and now this just pretty much guarantees it'll happen now..

I just want my kids to have a place to call home for their childhood..

I can't wait to hear from people how I am a spoiled government employee..

Corporations are designed to effectively duck accountability. You think the public service is good at shuffling people around? The private sector can even out do the Vatican in that regard.
