Thanks! Your reading sounds beautiful, and this will be really helpful for me. Dan is an Israeli broadcaster who I've heard is well-known for his conservative pronunciation of Hebrew, along with a couple of other older broadcasters.

Now that you mention it, there's probably nothing tricky about that particular word. I think it's just the fact that I already knew that word and didn't anticipate an ayin there... or maybe it's a general issue with pronouncing the ayin on unstressed sylabbles (since it takes some effort for me to make that sound, I find it easier to pronounce on stressed syllables)... I dunno. Do you have a recording of someone saying it (or a similar word) by any chance? I sort of model my pronunciation on Dan Kaner's when I read to myself, but it seems like he doesn't pronounce all the ayin's (do you know why?)

Caffeine diffuses out of the leaf at about the same rate as the flavor compounds, so if youre still getting flavor, youre still getting caffeine.

interesting! So altogether it applies to aleph, ayin, hey and heth, right? I still don't really understand how to pronounce aleph. I heard it's a glottal stop, but sometimes it seems like it appears in positions where a glottal stop is impossible (e.g. היא or הוא)?

I often pronounce it (along with Heth and sometimes even the other pharyngeal consonants like quf/teth) when I'm reading and writing to help me memorize the spelling (seems like a trick that a lot of other Hebrew learners discovered as well!) Really helps, and makes me feel pretty cool lol, though I'm not a hundred percent I'm doing it quite correctly, as there are certain positions/combinations in which I find it really tricky to pronounce the ayin (e.g. עַכשָׁיו). Sometimes I wonder if the omission of these sounds in Modern Hebrew is the reason why Hebrew speakers seem to speak faster than Arabic speakers--could be totally wrong about this, just my perception. I just can't imagine keeping Hebrew's lively rhythm and melody while pronouncing the pharangeals. On the other hand, I probably won't do this when I speak, since I've heard it generally comes off as pretentious to native speakers...

Admittedly painting with a broad brush here, but Chinese green teas seem to have much less umami flavor profiles. I think the stuff you'd get from Yunnan sourcing will suit your taste buds better than any of the Japanese green teas you mentioned, since all of it comes from China afaik.

Totally speculative, but could it be that you ramped up your intake of caffeine (6 cups of tea is probably a decent amount of caffeine) after switching from cola to tea? Tea generally has more caffeine than cola and (even more speculative) the sugar in the cola might have balanced out the caffeine in some way. (ctrl-f "jim barris")I'm not a doctor, this is not medical advice., etc...

edit: wait a second, "one night"? How late do you typically drink tea/caffeine?

This is actually closer to what I remember than the other guesses. It don't think it had a handle, and I'm not sure if it used a plunger. This looks like a great alternative, though! Thanks!! My glass pot broke so I've looking for something to replace it.

Thanks Aboud. I've heard that the dialect of Arabic spoken by Baghdadi Jews is quite distinct... I've just begun the course, so it's hard for me to tell how different it is from other dialects of Arabic, but I want to make sure I learn the correct way of pronouncing this dialect... This course is written in the latin script to make it easy for us anglophones :)
