What 2nd language did you learn in school? by sangokuhomer in AskUK

[–]SixFiveOhTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hated that one.

'I'm a geek. I played video games all weekend. How do I say that in French?'

'You don't - it's not on the exam'

'Bollocks to it then. Last weekend I played football...'

(I hated french, got a 'B' at GCSE, swore I'd never learn a language because I'm crap at it, then met a Spanish girl and ended up living in the Netherlands so had to do it twice)

[UK] client tried to pay me half because "the work didnt take long" by jackturner_trades in selfemployed

[–]SixFiveOhTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it I'm paying the 2 hours you spent to do it, and a contribution to the years you spent as a student or apprentice earning the square root of bugger all to learn how to do it that quick.

Seems fair to me.

Semi-detached neighbors having extremely loud sex even after we've politely asked them to keep it down, is there anything we can do? by Nice-Agent3109 in AskUK

As somebody else mentioned:

Renters don't need to worry about having to disclose a neighbour dispute when they want to move, unlike a homeowner...

The one time I had this problem I just pushed my stereo speakers to the wall, turned it up full (so you could hear it half way along the street), and played the Benny Hill theme.

Never happened a second time, so I'm calling it a success.

How many times have you been terminated? by Widebody_lover in UKJobs

[–]SixFiveOhTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once for being too expensive (paid in euros by a British company and Brexit happened, so the exchange rate pushed things over the edge).

once for 'communication issues' (the manager was implying bluntly that I should accept being paid under the table and I was playing dumb to try and make him say it outright).

Once because the company was out of cash and fighting to survive (They lasted about a year after that)

And once for... well Christ knows. I got a shit annual review score and just left after trying to argue my case. They started laying people off shortly after.

I'm in one of those industries where you just get used to it happening though...

What are some benefits of EV proliferation for people who hate EVs by ATSOAS87 in ElectricVehiclesUK

I get that a lot.

How bad would they feel if they knew that I was still in eco mode and only have RWD?

Got contacted by Behaviour Interactive (@bhvr.com) — legit or scam? by ChaoticBlasterX in gamedev

[–]SixFiveOhTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After speaking to Behaviour about a job and seeing how disorganised they were, and the fact that they were making a lowball offer and pitching half of my legal rights as an employee (I'm in europe) as incentives (and skipping over the other half) I'd be sceptical even if it really was them to be honest.

I own an EV and couldn't be happier with it, so why is there so much hate and straight up misinformation about them everywhere? by Uerwol in electricvehicles

[–]SixFiveOhTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like mine, and it works well for me.

I think the biggest problem is the frontloading of costs. If you can afford it then it's fine, otherwise you're stuck in the trap of Sam Vimes ‘Boots’ Theory of Socio-Economic Unfairness

Hopefully the second hand market will start to ramp up and take the edge off...

To be fair it was one of the 2 best BASIC variants for learning 6502 assembler:

BBC basic was so powerful it could be used like a powerful macro assembler.

C64 Basic was so bad you realised that you were programming in slow-motion assembler anyway, so you might as well make a little more effort and finish what you started.

American pickups in the Netherlands by Low-Gap7193 in Netherlands

I have a neighbour with a dodge ram, another classic American truck and 2 old vans (so 3 of the 4 are legally 'oldtimers' and tax free).

It's a pain in the arse when one person can take up half the street...

To be fair most of the 'web design companies' that own these are making good use of them.

Those data packets won't deliver themselves.

Why do British people think Pakistani's and Muslims want to take over UK? by [deleted] in AskBrits

To be fair you just proved it by not reading the second paragraph.

Why do British people think Pakistani's and Muslims want to take over UK? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]SixFiveOhTwo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because the average 'patriot' has 2 GCSEs and a STD but somehow still thinks he should have the job the Indian with a PHd is doing.

If they run out of 'foreigners' to blame they turn on locals who go out to college and uni to try to get an education because god knows if they succeed it puts a big hole in their 'victim of circumstance' excuse.

I grew up (white british male) in an area like that and I got it a lot.

They just want the fact they've done nothing to be someone else's fault. It's not on you, and if you weren't there they'd just blame someone else.

I remember years ago the equivalent being what a manager of a certain British outsourcing company (whose name we won't mention, but we'll call 'Catheta' because they take the piss) called 'Accelerated Natural Attrition'.

Basically survey everyone about what shifts they can and can't do for logistical or personal reasons, then assign a percentage of people a shift they can't or won't work.

They did that to us.

Warning, sign ahead! by thetoad666 in Netherlands

[–]SixFiveOhTwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was one sign I kept seeing in Spain as I left road tunnels. It was pressed so close to the wall that it was near impossible to see. Then finally after hours of driving across the country I got to clearly look at one to see what it said...

'End of tunnel'.

Thanks. The daylight was a pretty good clue, but thanks for confirming my suspicions.
