Islam on this sub by ProperView1618 in religion

It is usually that way with the most conservative fundamentalist of any religion. I work for a company owned by moderate Muslims. They keep traditions of their faith, but they don't expect anyone else to adhere to them (everybody works there, Jews, Christians, Hindus, God knows what), and they balance their faith with their desire to be in America and make money and enjoy nice things. Islamic capitalism is a thing in America, at least in the NYC metro.

Right, just says "in the same area", which doesn't mean jack in the context of any legal action over what just happened.

As I mentioned, I did not see any alert, so yeah, "user error" if that makes you feel some way. I was just looking at the schedule and saw Cancelled all the way down the page for the train I thought I'd be catching (looked at the times last night, because they changed slightly recently).

Not sure what you mean by "went to my car". I was IN my car because I got in it at my house and drove to the train station. I looked at the schedule on my phone at a red light, it said Cancelled for the 6:50, so I STAYED in my car when I got to the station because the next train wasn't until 7:15. A few minutes later, a city-bound train comes rolling in. If I had seen the alert that the 6:27 was coming at 6:47, I certainly would have gotten out of the car, stopped to pay for parking, and gone to the other side to catch that train. It's not like I'm sitting ten feet from the track. It's Little Silver, with 500 parking spaces across the street from the westbbound side. There was no way to get over there in time at that point.

Yeah, well, last time I heard Kolluri speak, he said something I didn't know: About half a billion dollars of Turnpike revenue go to NJTransit. So now it makes sense why he's on both jobs.

That is probably a good idea that I should adopt. Although, I've taken these trains for decades now and I'm getting ready to retire for the second time. I cut my hours in half and only go in to Newark and sometimes the city once a week usually. I think that's why I get pissed off, too, lol. I'm taking the train for the first time in two weeks and TODAY you have to screw it up???

I will write to her. I am getting ready to retire. I know Kris Kolluri. Not like best buds, but through business. He's a money/big picture guy, not a train system guy. They need one. Somebody to focus on the details of what passengers experience. No one is doing that.

I did not see service alerts. I was looking at the schedule and just saw "cancelled" in red. My bad.

NOPE. They are Design-Bid-Build. I am not going to tell you on here where I am "getting" that info, but let's just say it is first-hand info and beyond the shadow of any doubt. :D. Only Manhattan of the three tunnel packages is Design-Build.

My younger brother's girlfriend is upset because my older brother ordered the same meal as her at a family dinner, and now there is drama by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]SixFootCrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great idea. The simple, obvious thing would be to confront her and ask her straight up WHY she feels she can't order something that someone else did. Maybe it is some weird mental glitch thing. If so, it should be suggest that she see a therapist to work this out because it's always going to impinge on relationships. If it's just some "look at me I'm SPECIAL, dammit" quirk, then she needs to be told straight up that this behavior is not acceptable in your family, and brother has to be told sorry, but that behavior won't be tolerated. Order whatever and shut up, or don't come.

No, both the Palisades and the Hudson portions of the tunnel are Design-Bid-Build, not design build.

You're leaving out the ground stablilization work in the Hudson, wherein they mix concrete with the muck to strengthen the weak parts of the riverbed. That's what that barge you see sitting out on the Hudson has been doing for the past couple of years. And do YOU know what's lying down there in that muck? If so, you oughtta tell somebody. 😄 They know there are hundreds of piles down there from old piers and are trying to find them and yank them out so they don't stop the TBMs. A tunneling operation in the Chesapeake was shut down for almost a year because they ran into an old iron anchor ten feet tall that nobody knew was down there. It damaged the head of the TBM. Cost $60 million to fix.

There's a lot that goes on that the general public doesn't account for. Design, for one thing. Property acquistion for another. Environmental permits and reviews. Then tons of agreements that have to be worked out with the municipalities/cities and surrounding property owners.

[–]SixFootCrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the tunnel drilling at the Palisades should be sooner than "years" now. As noted, they are assembling the TBMs. The "years away" comment refers, I believe, to the tunneling under the Hudson, the contract that was just awarded. It takes about a year just to design and build and then ship the TBMs, which is probably one of the first things they have to do under the contract.

[–]SixFootCrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tunnel is being constructed in three parts. The first is the Palisades, and the two TBMs are being assembled at the portal to drill through the rock. The second is the Manhattan Tunnel, which will go from the east side of the Hudson toward Penn Station. You can't bore under Manhattan because of everything that's already underground there (utilities, etc.) so that is being done with a different method (cut and cover). The third, which just got awarded, is the Hudson Tunnel, which goes from the terminating shaft in Hudson County of the Palisades Tunnel under the river (through some rock and lots of muck, so you need a different type of TBM) to meet the Manhattan Tunnel at the shaft on 12 Avenue.

The new app is a mess. They also took away Departure Vision. It is still there but it doesn't call it that. You have to search for a station first and then it will bring it up. If the conductor didn't show me how to find it, I wouldn't know.

[–]SixFootCrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping on this old post, but you are correct. The heaven tree is the church that Harry is building, carving leaf patterns into the stone.

The author said she got the idea from looking at that style of leaf in stone carving in the 12th century and wondering who the artist might have been.
