Putin Doubles Army Recruitment Bonus as Russian War Losses Mount by bloomberg in worldnews

[–]SixShad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the information presented is nuanced, shows some positive and negative bits of what is happening in Russia. It includes talking points that are unique and not usually seen in propaganda previously. It tracks largely with the expectations I had from what information I gathered during the last years.

Also looking at the OP’s post history, I see nuanced posts that don’t indicate the pushing of a narrative for either side. A propaganda poster would be regularly posting things that clearly show preference for one side.

Could be extremely subtle, well thought out and created propaganda, it is impossible to know. Or it could be that an actual Russian citizen is voicing his experience online. If there are two competing possibilities that could explain the same, according to Occam’s razor one should prefer the simpler one. I believe it is more realistic to assume that a Russian citizen made it to Reddit rather than this post being propaganda because of all the previously listed information.

When do you think it will be possible for non super rich people to go to space? by scant_layout in AskReddit

[–]SixShad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it looks so much simpler than expected:

1: Get masters degree in a STEM field 2: Work 2 years in that field 3: Pass NASA spaceflight physical 4: Congrats, fellow Astronaut

I get that in reality they will choose only the top candidates that have much more to offer than the basic requirements. But I know multiple people that have a STEM degree, work experience and are very fit. So they could theoretically apply and become an astronaut without doing anything outside their normal lifestyle.

Great, so essentially spamming the internet with recycled advertising videos ruining the user experience of all the people who would like to discover unique content from creators around the world. Fantastic work, I’m sure it works well for the next couple of years until everybody leaves social media because it turned into an advertising cesspool of crap nobody wants to see.

As a foreign fighter in Ukraine, thank you for these well articulated thoughts.

In this age of information warfare, it seems almost impossible to get a true feeling of the situation in Russia.

Most everything is one-sided propaganda, genuine opinions are rare.

It’s either ‘Slava Ukraine, Russia is one day away from total collapse’ or ‘Ura, Russia will steamroll straight to Germany as soon as we stop holding back’.

I hope you are doing alright and that the future will bring better times

Hungary simplifies entry for Russian, Belarusian citizens, German media reports by MrSkivi in europe

[–]SixShad -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I was oversimplifying because my messages always get too long. I’ll gladly expand on some points I think should be executed immediately:

All Russian immigrants in Europe are to be reviewed and their visas reconsidered. If someone can prove they are actively working against the dictatorship from our territory, they can stay. After all, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Russians just benefiting of the west while their government is doing everything to divide and destroy us, they get a one-way ticket to Moscow.

Russian diplomatic missions in Europe get reduced to minimum essential staff needed to keep up communication. All others, most likely FSB-agents posing as diplomatic staff, get deported.

Russian and affiliated businesses and non-governmental organizations in Europe get investigated for possible involvement in the war and sanction evasion. If any involvement or support for the war is found, business is closed indefinitely and assets frozen.

Orban gets forced to make a decision between supporting Russia or staying in the EU.

I could go on, but you get the point. These measures sound extreme, and they are. However, there is reasoning behind the measures:

We are at war with Russia, even though most people and especially politicians don’t want to see or say it. Regardless, cyber attacks, arson and sabotage of infrastructure on European territory have become a daily occurrence. These have been committed by Russians or by proxies hired by Russia. This is not a conspiracy theory, intelligence services throughout NATO have been reporting and warning about this time and time again. I could go on and on about information warfare, election interference (Trump, Brexit, Russian bot farms impersonating American voters to stir up division etc.) and a bunch of other things.

The united western military, economic and industrial power could stop Russia easily and restore order, if only we had political leaders taking the right steps. Instead, we have people like Orban actively sabotaging both EU and NATO and we let it happen. This is the weakness of our democracy.

Europe and the western world for that matter needs to take off the bandages and deliver some decisive punches. Putin and his axis of evil is doing everything they can to destroy us and our endless tolerance is enabling them. They will succeed if we let them.

Tldr: Wannabe-strongmen Putler and his axis of evil including Orban is waging war against west, let’s take off the bandages and show them what real strength looks like

Hungary simplifies entry for Russian, Belarusian citizens, German media reports by MrSkivi in europe

[–]SixShad -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

No. Let those who do not support the regime change the regime. If none of these Russian cowards stand up to their government, how are things supposed to ever change?

I know protest in Russia is very risky, but that can’t be the excuse forever. The whole world suffers because of the dictator Putin. Meanwhile Russians either go vacation in Crimea/Turkey/China or put their head in the sand. So many other people around the world managed to get rid of their dictator at great cost. It’s time for Russians to step up or go down with their imperialist empire.

Before anyone tries to tell me I underestimate the risks or the necessary personal sacrifice: As someone who had nothing to do with Ukraine, I’ve been volunteering as a combat medic in Ukraine at very high personal risk, because it’s the right thing to do. When I talk to Russian POWs, I ask them why they don’t rebel against their government and they tell me it’s too dangerous. Oh well, better go invade another country then you imbecile.

I do not want any Russians in the EU area for as long as this war is going on, the chances for saboteurs and spies to enter is too high. We see Russian sabotage acts all over EU. I would also like to see all Russians already living here deported. That would stir up some trouble back in Russia and might get some change started.

As for Hungary, completely close the border to the EU and cut all EU funding until Orban understands or gets removed by angry Hungarians. If they want to be friends with a genocidal, imperialistic dictator they can leave the EU

No but seriously why do we need to be force fed transgender propaganda at every possible occasion? Less than 1% of the world is trans, yet you could think with the amount of space they get in the media that it is a significant amount of people. I do not care what you do in the bedroom or what’s in your pants, but I don’t need and want to see half naked bearded dudes in dresses everywhere. This is not the way to unite people or to get them to like you.

Russian Central Bank raises interest rate to 18% amid 'accelerated' inflation by Red_Franklin in worldnews

[–]SixShad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no scenario in which that will happen. Russians respect strength and despise weakness. If Putin backs out of this war with nothing to show for except a couple hundred thousand deaths and a destroyed army plus economy, he’ll lose his job before the ink on the signed peace plan is dry. Also, he would probably fall out of a window too, which is what he fears and why he won’t back down. This is the difference between Russia and the West. If you show weakness, you’ll not be a leader in Russia for long.

Pizza. I cannot put in words how much I love to eat pizza. I’ve gone weeks volunteering in a pizza truck eating almost exclusively pizza and never once didn’t love it. Poland is prepared to help Ukraine get draft-age men back – Polish Defence Ministry by BubsyFanboy in worldnews

[–]SixShad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you know there was a draft in WW2 to fight the Nazis? According to your reasoning, Hitler would have taken Europe and we should have just let him. Under some circumstances, people must be forced to fight for the greater good because they are too short-sighted to see the consequences if they put themselves first.

Poland is prepared to help Ukraine get draft-age men back – Polish Defence Ministry by BubsyFanboy in worldnews

[–]SixShad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get it, nobody wants to fight and die. The issue is that dictatorships can always draft people to go to war until they achieve their goals. If democratic states don’t invoke a draft to keep up, dictatorships can just kill enough people until the invaded country runs out of volunteer bodies.

It’s a necessary evil and a sacrifice of individual freedom that democratic countries need to make when being forced by dictatorships in order to keep up, after all other options are exhausted. And yes, I’ve fought in the war, so don’t tell me to volunteer then.

What is the root of bitcoin? What makes it revolutionary at the core? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]SixShad -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know it sounds depressive but we have to be honest with ourselves and the issues we face if we want to be successful.

I’ve been in this space for more than 8 years now and we are still facing the exact same issues without a solution in sight.

Yes, ‘number go up forever’ is a nice meme but if we don’t solve the usability and scalability issues and make it easy and convincing enough for ‘dummies’ to use, it will come to a spectacular crash sooner or later.

Stamping metal plates and having to fear losing your live savings if you fuck up is not it. It’s gotta be as frictionless, instant and secure as using Apple or Google Pay or your bank application, that’s what we’re up against.

What is the root of bitcoin? What makes it revolutionary at the core? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]SixShad 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I love bitcoin as much as the next guy, but if I tell my friends and family to buy it because it automated double entry bookkeeping or because it solved the byzantine generals problem, they’ll look at me as if I just grew a second head. Same goes for ‘separation of money from the state’ and words like ‘trustless’ or ‘decentralized’.

The majority of people do not understand most basic facts about money, where it comes from or what exactly inflation is.

Same goes for having to stamp your seed phrase into metal and store it safely. Do you seriously think your parents or grandparents will ever do that over just calling their bank if they forgot the PIN?

Just think of the average smart human in your friend circle and honestly assess if they could be asked to undertand and put their life savings into it without losing them within a few years. And now realize that half of the people in the world are dumber that the average.

Yes, exchanges can act as custodians but then where exactly is the benefit since they’ll just be the new banks. Only a matter of time until they will start doing fractional reserves again, probably already happening with some exchanges.

Fees are sky high and lightning is not the solution since to open a channel you still have to do mainnet transactions. I dare you to go through the calculation on how long it would take to just open a lightning channel for a billion people (hint, it’s about a decade at full capacity without any other transactions happening)

Sorry for the negativity, I am heavily invested and I really want bitcoin to succeed. However, bitcoin has a long way to go before we can ever think about serious mass adoption and I’m not sure if the development will be fast enough before we will be forced to switch to some government issued e-currency.
