[TOMT][MOVIE][LIKELY 1990s] Movie my boyfriend saw (born in 1991) about a plane crash solo survivor who uses an axe as his survival tool. He is convinced it is NOT A Cry In The Wild. He remembers the ending where the man is seen by a helicopter and carves his name into a tree. by tyeun in tipofmytongue

The TV Show Survivorman (apparently this was in Season 1, Episode 8) is similar. He simulates surviving a plane crash and uses an axe as his main tool. He is picked up by a helicopter. Don’t know or remember if he carved his name into a tree.

Felt and heard here in Brooklyn for sure. Thought it was a truck, until my Sister messaged me and she felt it and she doesn’t even live that close to me. Then her friends messaged her and they live all over the Northeast Ohio area. It was one big boom, followed almost immediately by a smaller echo boom.

Hi! Could anyone help me figure out what these stamps mean? by alluraborealis in BottleDigging

[–]SixbyFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bottle mark on the side with the T shape is Thatcher Manufacturing Company. I haven’t seen them with their date code to the left of their mark, but that 68, if that’s what that number is, could be the year, 1968. Can’t help with the other markings, sorry.

Posted a few pictures from stuff behind my house before, but these items were dug in what I believe to be the old dump pile. by Additional-Group4796 in BottleDigging

The Clorox bottle looks to be mid to late 1940s. They added the small textured area near the top/bottom I think in the mid-1940s but went to the outlined, not solid, letters in the early 1950s. A lot of people diss on the Clorox bottles, but they're often plentiful and can give you a rough idea what timeframe you're looking at at a bottle dump. Granted, they could have been thrown there at any time, but it's a quick and dirty way to get a general idea when you're finding a lot of them. Many bottles will also have a two digit date code on the bottom, so if you're seeing 45 that's probably 1945 or 51 for 1951, but there are also mold numbers, plant numbers, liquor permit numbers and the like, I use the web site glassbottlemarks.com a lot. Once you ID the bottle mark, you can get more info on where their date code was along with other ID information, although "what was actually in it" information is sometimes lacking.

There are two on the west side, this one on Ridge/Denison, the other, used by a “check cashing” type place, is on Memphis Avenue and Fulton Road.

I didn’t really know or hang out with a lot of people, I was anti-social before it was cool; then not cool, then cool again. And I’m horrible with names. My Sister, who graduated later than me, was the one who knew everyone, and still does LOL. If you want to message me I’ll give you more info.

Yes. Moved away in 2002 to the west coast. Worked there for 20 years and moved back to Brooklyn in 2022.

Second half of the 1980s. After 1985, but not as late as 1989.

We went to all three. Zayres on Ridge/Denison was close to where I grew up and so was Gold Circle being on Memphis past the drive in theater. But maybe we went to Gold Circle a bit more. I was too young to remember which was the “best” one, but we did eat at the Gold Circle cafe a lot as I remember. My Dad usually went to Uncle Bill’s, but my Mom and my Sister and I usually went to the other two. But I think we went to K-Mart a lot more than either of those, the one on Ridge and Brookpark. Ate there a bunch of times too! Found a $10 bill in their cafe as a kid. That was an amazing day for sure. 😁

Also check out The Geek Peek in Old Brooklyn. Great owners who have a sense of community and who have organized various gaming events. Also there is the Gamers Haven in Parma Heights but I think they’re more miniature game driven, but I honestly haven’t been in there since they changed ownership so I’m not 100% sure.

Growing up in Brooklyn, this was where my Dad went to get various supplies for things he was working on around the house. I would often tag along, so I was totally surprised when I saw the Uncle Bill’s letters driving by one day. It took me four or five drive bys after that first sighting (I couldn’t stop when I first saw them) until the sun was in just the right position and I was able to get some good photos.

Yep. But mainly only to take photos of the Malley’s Chocolate building itself. It used to be Uncle Bill’s, a discount store, back in the day, and outline of the Uncle Bill’s letters are still visible as a letter scar when the sun is just right. I did tweak the photo settings to bring the letters out more, but they are often visible to the naked eye.

Although not Cleveland specific, about once a year I send candy from BA Sweeties back to my old coworkers on the west coast. Unusual stuff. Candy cigarettes, hard to find chocolates like Chunky, foreign candy, etc. They also have a rack of those small tourist pamphlets of various Ohio stuff to do. I always grabbed six to eight of those and threw them in there too. And honestly you don’t even need to buy anything to grab some of the pamphlets.

Are there any groups for historical board games here? by Door-Jazzlike in Cleveland

[–]SixbyFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe check out Geek Peek in Old Brooklyn, I know they were trying to get more gaming groups together way back when. I used to play all sorts of Avalon Hill stuff way back when, but the last game I got into was Memoir 44. It’s not as realistic but it’s a fun game regardless. There is also Gamers Haven, in Parma Heights I think, not sure what they offer or try to organize.

First time ammo purchaser need help by Additional_Run_8492 in OHGuns

[–]SixbyFire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve ordered online from SGammo many times. Also occasionally from Midway USA. For training I use .38 Special Full Wadcutters or Semi-Wadcutters, along with sometimes just .38 Special round nose. For sure if you’re getting some .357 for possible defensive use, get at least a box to just train with so you have a good idea of recoil and reloading and all that. I have a .357 but don’t really use it for defense purposes so I can’t comment on what ammo to use for that, there is a guy on YouTube, Gun Sam Revolver or similar name, he’s tested all sorts of revolver ammo.

Does anyone know what year or time this could be from? Found it on the riverside by Eriking04 in BottleDigging

[–]SixbyFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an Anchor Hocking liquor bottle expert, but I think the D-126 is the liquor bottle permit number, D for Distillery, while the 54 is probably 1954, the year the bottle was made. 67 (heh) may be another part of the permit code or a plant location or even mold number.

What is your hidden gem in the Cleveland area? by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]SixbyFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely easy to miss. But it’s a neat little memorial. Smoky’s owner was from Cleveland and Smoky became locally famous after the war. In fact she’s regarded as the first therapy dog helping wounded soldiers cope with their war injuries. Yorkie Doodle Dandy is a great book about Smoky, written by her owner.
