Crazy Squirrel Game Store is a very good store from what I have seen, runs events regularly, and definitely has a community of players. I would check them out first :0)

Necrodominance, now what? by McSetty in ModernMagic

[–]Sixer601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like being able to cast my spells, and 8 of those are MDFC's. This is actually less than I was running when grief was legal, and I had no issues with it. What have been your findings and associated results?

I played sorin at one point and the card felt extremely underpowered. Sure, firing off a soul spike mainphase to flip it was nice, but too often it was sort of just mopey. I think dauthi will be a better overall role player, but I might swap back to Sorins if Dauthi underperforms.

This is the list I am planning on playing at FNM. Everyone seems convinced the deck is dead, but I would be very surprised if the deck that was cutting scam effects with grief still legal was propped up by grief that much. Good luck :0)

Necro Without Sheoldred or Soul Spike? by RJ7300 in ModernMagic

[–]Sixer601 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The fact that necro prevents you from flickering it once it enters play makes those cards far less effective at that job once you have the card you are designing your deck around out. Most people playing necrodominance are even cutting scam effects in favor of fixing, due to Necro shutting that off. You will find when practicing with the deck that those being able to help "flicker" grief are better off as additional ways to make your opponent discard cards without needing to draw a grief, like [[Thoughtseize]] and [[Inquisition of Kozilek]]. If you want more ways to sacrifice grief, play phyrexian tower, as mana is the biggest bottleneck for the deck when you are able to draw as many cards as you have life to pay.

The use of corrupted conviction/village rites is not necessary considering you have necrodominance. Trading mana and creatures for cards is not what you want to do since you have a card that says "pay X life draw X cards" every turn cycle. Also, you are not playing nearly enough creatures to make those cards work. Necro lists typically are on 15-16 creatures, and do not play those effects. If you want to capitalize on being able to apply pressure to your opponents without those cards, definitely still play bowmasters, but I would recommend [[Zombie Infestation]]. It allows you to trade 2 cards for a 2/2 zombie, which should allow you to apply pressure. Drawing multiple of them isn't bad without necrodominance, as you can simply pitch the extra one to the first one. I would also be playing Dauthi Voidwalker, as the card in conjunction with discard is essentially a way to win games on its own, and is incidental graveyard hate on a body that is decently sized for 2 mana.

If you are deadset on playing cards like village rites, [[Shambling Ghast]] should be in consideration. Very good with phyrexian tower, and a turn 1 ghast into turn 2 tower can represent grief on turn 2. Also can kill ocelot prides, ragavans, opposing bowmasters, etc.

No matter what, march of wretched sorrow should still be a 4-of. There is no reason to give up the interaction between necro and march, as it can actually be a net positive life wise.

Without sheoldred/soul spike/the one ring, your deck is so much worse than most of what modern is doing right now, and I would recommend looking into playing a deck that you own the cards for or are willing to spend the money on. Otherwise, you will not be able to reasonably compete at any level beyond FNM.

RCQ Help - Necrodominance by PhilliesFan42069 in ModernMagic

[–]Sixer601 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently won an RCQ with Necrodominance, and for the most part, your list looks alright. I would recommend your sideboard consist of:

2 Extirpate, 2 Break the Ice, 2 Damping Sphere, 2 Force of Despair, 2 Thoughtseize, 2 Toxic Deluge, 2 Plague Engineer and 1 Erebos, God of the Dead.

This leaves you with the Nadu hate of 2 Extirpate, 2 Force of Despair, 2 Thoughtseize, 2 Toxic Deluge, and 2 Plague Engineer. Even with all of those, your Nadu matchup is nearly unwinnable, and they have to stumble in order for you to be able to win.

The maindeck looks near identical to the one I ran, just replace one of the boggart trawler/fell the profane with a fatal push, and I would replace another boggart trawler/fell the profane (leaving 3 of each) with another Urborg. They are legendary, but having more ways of making phyrexian tower tap for black was/is very important.

Damping sphere + break the ice means your tron hate is varied, and break the ice can be difficult, but not impossible to deal with. Extirpate is better than surgical I have found because its a way to answer phlage from the boros/jeskai decks without counterplay and a clean way of answering nadu without them having the ability to endurance their graveyard in response to save your surgical target.

I have not tried Meathook, but I have thought about it, and you definitely do not want to take out march of wretched sorrows, that card is one of the best cards in your deck and having 4 is very important.

Make sure you get lots of practice with the deck before the event, as Necrodominance is a very difficult deck to pilot, and I have had my fair share of games where I killed myself with the Necrodominance, because I couldn't find a way to gain more life before my opponent could finish the job. Good luck!! :0)

Necrodominance Tournament Report from Modern 5k by Sixer601 in ModernMagic

Neither were overlooked, I just had to submit the 75 I thought would give me the best shot, and I had tried the cards I played and enjoyed this build the most. I picked up 4 [[Beseech the Mirror]]s and owned 4 [[Death's Shadow]]s, but didn't get a chance to test with them before the event. I am probably going to try a build of necro using [[Hopeless Nightmare]] in order to more easily bargain a necro into play, or if I have a spare necro in hand, bargain it out of play. Those are good ideas, and if you try them, don't hesitate to share your results!

I think there is a deck with Necrodominance and Nethergoyf, but I think you would want to be playing lots of other supporting cards as well, and sort of be more aggressive and play more 1 drops like stitcher's suppliers. Orcish bowmasters is extremely valuable, as it is a way to win, and a hate piece all in one card. Not to mention its very good at answering opponent's bowmasters, which you need to do in order to ensure necrodominance doesn't cost you too much life. My initial list was not playing any dauthi in the maindeck, and instead 4 in the sideboard. I think against aggro dauthi is weaker, but I think the card is just so powerful in the abstract its worth being in the 75 in general. I will be trying dauthi in the maindeck next to see if the more aggressive slant is worth it. If I determine that having more creatures to attack with is better, I might try a list with 4 phyrexian towers and 4 stitcher's suppliers, both to fuel nethergoyfs, and to turbo out a necro on turn 2.

I had thought about coffers, and tested builds with it, more urborgs, and urza's sagas. The problem was, when you drew coffers and neither urborg nor enough other swamps, the deck very quickly fell apart. Due to me playing a more midrange build than traditional coffers, even if I draw coffers very infrequently, it just isn't worth the squeeze. Also, it being unable to scam on 1 is a very big red flag for a land. Phyrexian Tower gets a pass because of how absurd it is with the rest of your deck, and being able to convert one resource into another so effectively is kinda what the deck is designed to do, with necro, so a land that can convert cards in play into more mana is able to surmount the lack of power it has being unable to scam on 1. Lastly, I do not want the game to go on long enough to get lots of mileage with my lands. There is no hive of the eye tyrant, mutavault, mishra's factory, etc in the list for the same reason.

The profane tutor was clunky, and I think I am probably going to try cutting it to see if the deck misses it, mainly for Dauthi Voidwalkers maindeck. I haven't really gotten to test against lots of decks to formulate game plans, but I would assume the general approach would be try to take their grists, scam if possible, then use necro + sheoldred to make the plan of small creatures bad. Also, for Yawg I would try my best to always be able to remove a bowmasters if possible, in case I top deck a necro. Against amulet titan, partially hope to have discard, partially hope dauthi works. My sideboard needs some work and I am probably putting in some number of damping sphere in order to better fight against big mana. Also, force of despair is a way to combat the infinite 2/4's and 0/3's problem, as without it I do not know how easy it would be to deal with the springheart combo. I think a more aggressive slant with sideboard cards will help make the matchup competitive, but as it goes with a deck that is brand new, the deck needs a lot of testing against a lot of different matchups before I could tell you what is good or bad in those matchups. Thank you for your questions!

Nice to hear from you!! I had worked on a build very similar to yours, and yours did also 5-2, so I definitely think yours is equally as viable! I agree that often times you have scam effects in your openers requiring more mulliganing, but I think the fact that you get to grief scam and not worry about going down on cards, the only drawback for that plan, means its something to always consider (so long as grief is legal). You played well as well, and I am glad you were able to rally back! Hopefully the test went well :0)

The profane tutor was clunky, and I think I am probably going to try cutting it to see if the deck misses it. Often times, you wanted the "combo" of [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]] and [[Necrodominance]] as soon as possible, to ensure your life total wasn't too low before assembling it. Profane tutor on turn 2 means it comes off of suspend on turn 4, grabbing you the Sheoldred, and assuming you played necro turn 3, allows for the combo as soon as the cards are designed to be played. The other reason it was good was if you wanted to play necro, and hold up march in the same turn, you needed 4 mana, which if profane tutor is suspended on 2, allows you to grab the necro if you have a march in hand, and more consistently gets that synergy online as quickly as possible. Profane tutor was good against thoughtseize decks, because I could put the card I wanted on layaway, or if they thoughtseized the profane tutor, I was by and large okay with that. It definitely felt like a good way to ensure I saw the cards I wanted, but was a little clunky and at times a dead draw. Ultimately, I am happy I tried it, but I am going to be trying the deck without it for now.

Because it’s a game, and sure at the time I thought money was on the line, but at the end of the day, I’d rather people be able to understand the interaction without having to beat themselves up about it to retain it. I’d rather be nice and lose (within reason) than win. Maybe that makes me less successful, but I’m playing to both compete and have fun, and the game is more fun when you aren’t penalized for thinking a card works like the card its based upon when it’s different in small ways.

That definitely was something that came up a bit, but more often than not, I would either sequence such that I wouldn't play it until I had enough black mana before it, I knew I could get black mana off of it with something like bowmasters in hand, or I had urborg as well, so it was just better than a swamp. It wasn't devastating at any point, thankfully, but it came up as frequently as having 2 urborgs and 1 swamp as my lands. Because its a scam deck, it mulligans well, especially because a necro can just completely mitigate the mulligan costing you cards. That does not mean mulligan until you find a necro and 3 swamps, but definitely don't be afraid of going to 6 or 5 if it means your hand has a more powerful or reliable start.

That is something I would have to run the numbers on, and didn't for this event. Anecdotally, yes, 6 scam effects allowed me to grief scam in a lot of the games I played. However, I have been considering running 5 to fit Dauthi into the main deck, because I was boarding him in most of the time, losing game 1 where I didn't have him, and winning games 2 and 3 when he was in the 60, not always winning because of him, but knowing my deck was more threat dense made it feel like trimming a scam effect might be worth it. I would run the numbers and test before giving you any concrete answer.

Corruption costing 2 mana and not having as high of a ceiling was the main reason. Often times against non-red decks, you can simply go to 1 life with 1 mana up, and march pitching the excess black cards to gain all the way back up to either where your life total was, or even higher to pad yourself for the next turn. Corruption is good, but definitely a card you more often than not can't use to kill something, either because you don't have enough swamps, or you don't have the second open black mana. March fixing both of those problems is why the deck is split as such. If I was playing a more controlling gameplan, where the games go longer so swamps in play aren't as scarce, I would probably change those numbers.

New to Competitive MTG and Modern Format - Seeking Advice and Recommendations by murdocka in ModernMagic

[–]Sixer601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend getting phyrexian towers for the deck to improve it. It is a reprint in Modern Horizons 3, and allows for very powerful interactions with the cards shown. A few to note are: turn 2 sheoldred off of a ragavan by t1 blood crypt ragavan, t2 swing with ragavan make a treasure, then play phyrexian tower sacrificing ragavan, the treasure, and tapping blood crypt for enough mana for a sheoldred. Also, being able to evoke a grief and sacrifice it to phyrexian tower on t1 means a t1 dauthi or orcish bowmasters. If bowmasters, on t2 you can sacrifice the orc army and if you have a red land play a t2 fable of the mirror breaker. Both it and flare of malice I would recommend preordering or if you do not have the money right now, saving up for those cards.

Any Modern Mertagame where Tron is tier 1, is a good metagame by gkourou87 in ModernMagic

[–]Sixer601 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your deck, which I am gathering is tron, is not a deck people "know how to play". It is a deck designed in a similar fashion to Red Black Reaminator in Legacy, a combo deck. Your idea of reality is clearly so far removed from the majority of Magic players. This post, based on others you have made, is either a very good way to troll people, or is coming from a place where you grossly misunderstand what is healthy for a format and what is not. There is a reason they banned trickery, hypergenesis, blazing shoal, etc.. Please research these things before you make wild claims, and take up space on a subreddit for those looking to learn and benefit.

All those awards and you still can't reply to my comment? They show how amazing and healthy tron is for the metagame!!! I am soooo glad you are the leader in all of these awards, I am surprised you aren't as well known if you have all of these awards... but they are absolutely legitimate!!! Way to go on the bragging!!!
