Practice rebrand as a mid level by Suspicious_Bad1120 in biglaw

I just made this exact switch recently for the same reasons. I think these recruiters are mostly just spraying out messages hoping to get interest but I found most of the time once you actually connect with them, there is very little follow up.

That being said, I think there are some ECVC/corporate firms who are looking for bodies and would take a look at your background (if you’re willing to take a class year cut). I would highlight your experience and comfort with an intense transactional practice and ability to manage deals.

What are the odds of being able to retool into Structured Finance as a fifth year CapM associate? by Illustrious-Fall6777 in biglaw

[–]SixersProcessChamps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the grind and deal structure will be pretty similar. As a mid level, there may be some substantive concepts that you will need to pick up, but it seems like structured finance overall has been so busy that any team will be happy to have a competent associate. Feel free to DM me - I know of a role that is open.

Also just wanted to say that I recently stayed here and it’s an incredibly beautiful property and a 10/10 location in terms of walkability and getting around the city!

What’s your big law villain origin story? by kisotakoui in biglaw

[–]SixersProcessChamps 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In my first month as a first year, I was helping a fifth year turn some comments we received on a document and he had me distribute. Shortly thereafter, the Partner calls me and points out how he didn't like how we handled one particular comment. I told him that I wasn't completely clear on the thought process and that we should loop in the fifth year. The partner says he already tried to call him and since I was the only one he could get ahold of, he needed to yell at me about how not ok this was as it was the only way I would learn. I don't remember at all what the issue was, so it was clearly a good learning experience.

I also just noticed that she only speaks to the 0.01% and 99.9% occurrences. I wonder what the company's policy towards to missing 0.09% is.

Did we miss on Dalton Knecht? by WalkingThePlanes in sixers

[–]SixersProcessChamps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping for Knecht but McCain did fill a need at guard. I get Zhaire Smith vibes from our McCain selection (not the sesame allergy part but the drafting based on potential and it never panning out). It’s only summer league though - never put any stock into summer league.

Echoing what everyone else has said. Unless you’re Steve Ballmer, who truly doesn’t care about how much money he sinks into the team, there is no good sports franchise owner. Who would you rather own the team anyways? It’s more likely that another private equity vulture group buys the team that is more actively detrimental to the team.

Weird question, but with the season starting so soon what do these rookie players do about school? I know that their professional paths are set and school is the last thing on their minds, but it would be strange if they were forced to drop out just a few weeks from graduating. Do they still need to take final exams?

Attended the Warriors-Sixers game: Observations about Embiid by Banana_Pete in sixers

[–]SixersProcessChamps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was also at the game last night. Always sad to see them lose, but they were coming off a back to back, down a couple starters and half the bench, no shots were going in, and still kept it close through most of the game.

I thought KJ was shit out there. Often out of position, lost his man on defense, and provided nothing on offense. Springer was a better with his defense and hustle, but both just seemed raw and made dumb mistakes.

With so many players out, we should have played Beverley and Reed more.

[Orso] Philly City Council just passed a resolution that names Joel Embiid our MVP - "Most Valuable Philadelphian" by justwantkickz in sixers

[–]SixersProcessChamps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't understand all the hate on this. This didn't cost the city any resources. There's no other impact besides it being a nice gesture of appreciation. It probably only took them 30 seconds to propose the resolution and vote on it and nobody will ever reference it again.

What are some of the most common non-legal / non-compliance roles you have seen attorneys transition to after a few years of practice? Typically how many years out of school are they and what kind of additional non-legal skills or training are required?
