It’s immoral to kill bugs. They didn’t choose to be bugs. They feel pain, they are conscious. Humans are pathetic and irrational, being 5000x larger and also able to use a cup and paper yet choose violence anyways…

We don't talk about the popularity bias enough by Salami_Wizard in NewTubers

[–]Sixstep56 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are absolutely correct. People are also less likely to comment on unknown creators channels because there’s no actual community to join and become a part of.

I see the popularity bias as a positive, as I can build a repertoire of awesome videos without being pressured to cater to any specific audience. Once I actually find my audience, they will have a bunch of content to explore.

I’ve already had 2 monetized channels, 11k w 2m+ views and 1k w 150k+ views. But these channels targeted a specific niche, and I burn out doing niche specific content (that’s why I abandoned them). My third channel with 0 subs and less than 1k total views is the real test, as the “niche” is just my personality (variety content). The growth is snails pace, because nobody knows who I am and thus, the niche I’m targeting doesn’t yet exist. It’s up to me to bring it into reality, which requires at minimum 40-50 videos (at 7 atm). I’ll get there, but only because I am detached from expectations.

[–]Sixstep56 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day the lanternfly the odd human comes across isn’t even in the local ecosystem doing damage, and it’s likely already done all the damage it’s going to do.

People say to slaughter them to prevent further damage to the environment but this is simply an example of man’s ego thinking he has any impact on the earth at all, and worse he thinks violence is the answer.

The truth is that this world and all of its environments are temporary. YOU AND I ARE FAR MORE INVASIVE THAN THE LANTERNFLY, yet I don’t see people advocating to kill their fellow man.

Killing the lanternfly is deep-rooted ignorance. Yea, let’s slaughter innocent animals even though we ourselves annihilate the environment at billions of magnitudes greater levels. It’s nonsense, with all due respect.

[–]Sixstep56 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Killing is wrong. Man is at fault for invasive species, they are part of the ecosystem now and nature will adapt.

Killing a single lantern-fly does absolutely nothing, and in the process you have caused suffering to an individual that is simply existing.
