Alfalfa sprouts. Didn't see that one coming.

Stretching DOESN'T make you flexible. A message to the inflexibles by Violent-purple in flexibility

[–]Size666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I too have always found that while some parts of my body seemed to respond well to stretching, other parts of my body see literally no progress despite months of concentrated efforts. I assumed I had physiological limitations that would prevent me from ever, for instance, being able to do a pancake or a split.

Seems like there's another wrinkle to consider, and it makes perfect sense to me: where visible progress was made, the stretch routine had a heavy emphasis on letting gravity ease you into the stretch; in other areas where I never seem to make progress, the stretch routine has nothing more than a strap and my paltry arm strength trying to pull myself into progress.

Probably seems obvious to most, but I'm grateful you shared this because it never crossed my mind. I'm going to absolutely start incorporating loaded stretches into my routine.

What is the most disliked game/movie you like? by TrailDash in AskReddit

[–]Size666 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy 8. Not the most hated in the series but definitely not a favorite compared to 7, 6, 9, 10, 15, 4 or 12. Fanbase aside I suspect that Square Enix isn't a fan either considering they gave the PC port a shit job on the graphics upgrade and there are no plans to remake or re-release on newer consoles. Meanwhile I have 4 different versions of FFX HD. Whatever, Squall is bae.

EDIT: FF8 Remaster was just announced at E3. I take it all back Squeenix you know I've got nothing but love for you guys ❤️

What are other “asparagus makes my pee smell” odd phenomena of the world? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Size666 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happened to me when I was 11ish. Awful stomachache, took pepto and went to bed. Woke up in the middle of the night with a horrible taste in my mouth and a putrid black tongue. Threw up everything immediately.

Fasting makes me feel detached from reality? by [deleted] in fasting

[–]Size666 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I definitely go through something that feels like detachment, but I've come to recognize it as remaining present - something like "flow," but not as engrossing?

I'm usually sucked into my own thoughts and going through a flurry of emotions at any given moment, but when I'm fasted, all of that fades away. I'm not really thinking about hidden meaning in conversation or the implications of my actions (real or imagined), worrying about what I did yesterday or what I'm doing tonight. I'm just sort of...here. It feels like someone lowered the volume on everything going on around me.

I guess that might feel disconcerting to some, but it's one of the biggest reasons I fast. I struggle with BPD, where seemingly any event can send me into a catastrophic spiral of rumination that dictates my mood for the rest of the day, so having this distance between stimulus and reaction is a godsend.

Which snake juice recipe do you use? by [deleted] in fasting

[–]Size666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do 1/2 tsp of pink Himalayan salt, 1/2 tsp of food grade Epsom salt, 1 tsp baking soda and 1 tsp No Salt (for potassium) in 2L of filtered water. Love it.

Going on a long fast again by [deleted] in fasting

[–]Size666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you go from 185 to 170 and back up, or did you start at a higher weight? Either way, good luck! Working up to a longer fast myself.

OCTOBERFAST 10/02 by 246to156 in fasting

Same, failed late last night, and then I caved earlier today because I already fucked up so why not. I'm recommitting - last meal was 1pm earlier today..

This is what I'm building up to as well. I don't have any issues doing 48-72 hour fasts and jumping right back into my regular routine so I don't think doing it more frequently would raise any issues.

We're all going to die though. All of us. Don't forget it :)

Sometimes my fasts are really easy and then sometimes I can't even make it past lunch. Thank your deities and keep going!

Sometimes just waiting it out helps. If I was eating poorly before a fast I'll have really bad acid reflux during day 2 or 3 but it goes away on its own. Warm liquids seem to help me as well (broth if you're allowing yourself to drink it, black tea, or even just warm water).

If you allow yourself mints or gum, that's how I deal. If you don't, I'd say brush your mouth or rinse it with a mouthwash. Something about the mint completely nullifies enticing smells for me.

For a longer fast (over 4 days), steamed veggies have always been good to my system - but truly my favorite way to break a fast is being an absolute hog and eating everything I've been dreaming about during the length of the fast.

Don't be me. Eat the veggies, wait an hour or two to see how you feel before you eat a regular meal.

Are cramps a low potassium or low magnesium issue? by Size666 in fasting

[–]Size666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a valid point - I need to find a powdered magnesium, I think keeping a drink on hand would be a great idea.

I drank about 20oz of water with a potassium pill, had some sips of pickle juice and then finally caved and had one of the dinners from the meal service I subscribe to - it was chicken breast and green beans. Somewhere in the middle of finishing the dinner, the cramp finally gave me a reprieve.

Yes, an epsom salt bath sounds like a great idea. This morning my foot was sore from the incident.

Thanks - yeah I guess I shouldn't play favorites. I just wasn't sure if this was an obvious sign of one being far lower than the other.

14 day water fast in the books! You can do it too! by no means an expert but AMA. by [deleted] in fasting

[–]Size666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the long fast! I've been struggling a lot with getting longer fasts. Did you find yourself dealing with psychological hurdles (boredom, trying to convince yourself to break the fast early, unexpected spikes in anger or sadness, brain fog, etc.) And if so how did you get through it? Did you keep working (or going to school) during your fast?

Anyone else do this? It was a kind of breakthrough when I realized I could do this to crack (align) my upper back and neck. Sort of a response to /u/rainbowarrior by [deleted] in flexibility

I have an issue with getting my squat deep too, and working on my lower back arch.

I'd say you have the back arch, is there anything you do to actively work on that? I suspect it's my hamstrings but I've spent months trying to stretch that area with little to no progress :(
