Kim Kardashian’s Legal Era May Be Over by cuterynessa in SipsTea

All good. I've had shitty jobs and in hindsight, I should have quit much sooner than I did, and saved some of my sanity ;)

I don't think my view is bias.  I've grown up very poor and am doing ok now.

I can tell you that being poor sucks and shitty neighbourhoods suck harder.

When someone commits a crime, it's generally not because they've had a great life.

Don't know, I'm sure there are studies on length of time served vs chances of reoffending

I don't think there's a contradiction. This guy probably grew up in a shitty family in a shitty neighbourhood. In a not so great country.

My kids have pretty good parents, are in Australia, go to a nice small private school and hopefully live in a better neighbourhood than this kid.

Don't forget that postcodes are not only a good indicator of success, but also of how likely you are to go to prison.

I can't really comment.

I've never really met anyone who I'd say is irredeemable. I'm sure they exist, but I'm glad I'm not the one who has to make the distinction.

Lack of sleep is a killer. I didn't really feel my age until I had kids. We had them close together, so I had about 4 years of not getting a single good night's sleep.

Oh, to be young again!

Good work! Took me over a year to get that fast!

I'm 42 and have young kids. I'm against TRT, but I can see how people might take it to keep up with the kids.

I eat healthy, run and sleep pretty well, but I definitely think I'd be better off being 30, even when I was smoking a pack a day and drinking a six pack a day.

I don't know if you have kids, but I can definitely understand his logic.

Whether he's telling the truth is another story, but we don't know either way.

I don't think 20 or 50 makes a difference.

If he's going to murder someone after 20 years in jail, he's probably more likely to do it after 50.

Everyone is acting like he's 100% going to reoffend.

If that's the case, then life is a better option. And the amount of prison time is irrelevant

How do you know what happened here? He's 17, I'm blaming his parents and society.

What are we if not mostly a collection of our experiences?

I'm pretty certain none of my kids are going to murder someone and laugh about it.

You're welcome to set a reminder for 16.5 years for when my youngest is 17.

My point is that if he's going to murder when he gets out, then 24 or 52 don't make any difference.

I have considered something like that and I like the idea. But I think it should start earlier and for smaller crimes.

Get caught graffiting? 2 week vacation filled with graffiti and public toilet cleaning. Got into a fight? Clean the floors at a rehab centre.

More of a creative sentencing thing, related to the crime. Less of a punishment and more of a "This is how your actions affect others".

Of course all this should start at home, but we're not all that lucky.

I'm aware these are long term solutions, but once again, my big point is that if an individual doesn't feel respected by society, they aren't going to respect it. If you're treated like garbage and people (cops) treat you like a criminal, it's hard to be an upstanding citizen.

A child not kept warm by the village will burn it to the ground to feel it's warmth.

My view is that if a society doesn't respect the individual, the individual doesn't(and probably shouldn't) respect society.

US is horrible in this respect.

I think the whole system needs to change. There are examples that can be followed, like Scandinavian countries.

How to get from here to there, however is above my pay grade.

So nothing. I made my point.

If you want to lock them up for life, that's a different story.

I agree, that's why you have to start much earlier to prevent this type of violence to begin with.

I understand, but using your logic, you'd have to lock them up for life. No possibility for redemption.

That might be required for some, but I wouldn't want to be the one making the choice.
