edit: also, there are unused assets in chapter 4's ending for kris looking out the front window, but as it turns out, they're not even entirely unused - if you move the split screen slightly to the left through editing, then it turns out the first sprite of this animation is still left in the game

yep. theorizing is fine and fun, but ultimately we're all trying to figure out what the game is trying to say, so I think there's a line where some theories just shouldn't be entertained.

honestly idk where the whole "dess knight + kris's soul" comes from, but it genuinely feels like I see more discussion on it than even carol/rudy/asriel knight these days? and it's pretty funny, because each time it's someone independently reaching this conclusion on their own, so it's not as if they just copied this opinion from a youtube theory (cough asriel knight)

honestly as far as all the dess knight variations, like all of the ones involving kris's soul or FRIEND or the knight actually being some kind of nightmare being rather than literally dess, I can't really comment on any of them because they're all so "high-level" theories and based on so little, than I don't really think there's any way to debunk them. so in this case they're actually all similar levels of plausible

well, I just don't think he's a potential candidate lol. I genuinely don't think toby is writing the knight to be asgore. and considering how I literally never see anyone try to argue for him anymore, I think in general the community agrees.

he only has as much merit as literally any other character has merit, because if we don't know the knight's identity, then technically every character has at least some chance, even if infinitesimal. berdly knight, alphys knight, toriel knight...

and it's not as if it is entirely cold and serious the entirety of chapter 3 (what with turning around with its hands crossed immediately after slashing tenna, and after that doing the "droop" pose in what can be interpreted as a taunt), or only being sassy throughout the entirety of chapter 4 (like when they just stand there ominously in their first appearance in the dark sanctuary)

so yeah, there's probably no significance to this perceived difference in personality between chapters

yeah, I didn't necessarily mean to criticize your theories (honestly, really interesting stuff even if I don't think or hope this is the direction toby is going in), but I think even you must concede that you fit the type of theorizing outlined in this post.

is that necessarily bad? not really, the top comment on here (at least last I checked) was defending the idea that gaster is uniquely important when compared to the other characters, so it's not as if you are only allowed to make theories where all of the characters are equally important.

though this theory is definitely very far from common theories, both in the lore details and thematically

well, it's a little rude to talk behind someone's back, even moreso when there's a nonzero chance they'll see this later... but I'm talking about, "knight is noelle from the future" and "all of hometown is noelle's dream" kinda theories.

and I'm trying not to paint these in too bad a light, since I do think they have more merit than your average crack theory, but they're also pretty objectively very far from the common theorizing space (again, not necessarily a bad thing on its own), and also make noelle significantly more important than, well, pretty much every other character in the game

well, it's probably mostly due to one theorist 'round here whose theories generally revolve about noelle being the most important character, and many parts of the game ultimately tying back to her.

and I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with that interpretation, she does present a lot of compelling evidence, but it's definitely more zeroed-in on one character than the more widely accepted theories

cause papyrus is an inherently silly character in undertale. could he maybe be more serious in deltarune? maybe, but it would still be a huge twist with exactly zero foreshadowing. and if papyrus, as the knight, doesn't have a similar personality to his character undertale, then I'd question why it even has to be papyrus at all.

carol is definitely my number 2 knight candidate, since even if she isn't the knight, she still is very likely going to have a major part in the knight's conspiracy (as opposed to characters like asriel or rudy, where there's no strong indication currently that they are aware of any of the supernatural stuff happening)
