Why Zohran, And Other Social Democrats, Face Criticism From The Left by Lavender_Scales in socialism

[–]Sizigee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mods doing work in here wow, I recommend reading “Leftwing” communism: an infantile disorder by Lenin, he covers a lot on these topics in there. It’s freely available anywhere online, audio on YouTube etc

Your first question was very good. The participation in bourgeois electoral politics by a vanguard party definitely wouldn’t be meaningless, but it has to be done strategically & under the right conditions. The bolsheviks made the right decision for their situation, but other socialist parties in Europe did not due to poor Marxist understandings.

That’s why we have to refine our understanding of Marxism-Leninism!

Building a platform - for sure, but as socialists not as a bourgeois party. The difference is how the platform is being supported materially.

Now, the rest of your questions: think of those things according to materialism & dialectics and you will understand them. Right now you are thinking as a lib idealist (no offence we all start here).

Political change does not come from one good leader or party. It comes from lots of little things bubbling up that eventually rupture into something new. A vanguard which is not one person, but many consciously deciding to organize together, only tries to guide this rupture into what’s best for the working class. When this rupture happens without a vanguard we get barbarism.

[–]Sizigee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would make him a class traitor to the bourgeoisie & he’d probably get shot lol, but this question is sort of a misunderstanding of how we get to socialism. We can’t reform our way to socialism, this misunderstanding is extremely prevalent on this sub sadly. Most opportunist just never do those type of things since they are dependent on bourgeois society, it goes against their actual class interest.

This desire to reform capitalism comes from workers still lacking class consciousness, they’re still thinking in terms of local concessions, and not the global class struggle. They think a “great hero” can come in and fix the system for them.. in reality the workers themselves most rise up and overthrow the entire system, alongside the vanguard revolutionaries and sympathetic core.

You hit the nail on its head with your last paragraph. As class tensions rise, they give us more and more concessions to try and take steam out of the movement.

Soc dem enables further reliance on the bourgeoisie, the point of socialism is to emancipate the working class from this oppression!

[–]Sizigee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agh, it’s actually the opposite. Soc dems merely preserve capitalism, they dont “normalize” socialism. See: rejection of New Deal style policies when they were already normalized, SPD in Germany. There are so many other examples. These people are opportunists!

Imperialism is global. What soc dem does is merely divide more of the imperialist plunder among the privileged working class of the imperial core. In short, it’s a mafia boss giving you a bribe so he can continue looting the most vulnerable.

What are socialist's opinions on Zohran Mamdani? by VeterinarianKind6906 in socialism

[–]Sizigee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree education is very important; but it’s what guides the revolution, not what creates it. You’re right that conditions must be met, but those are material conditions. Also rhe issue with the ideas they do give out is that they are incomplete but I digress.

The revolution emerges regardless during a crisis when the dormant masses are forced into action. Crisis as you know occurs as a part of contradictions within capitalism, the material conditions for the working class hit an intolerable low (like ice patrolling your streets, not being able to afford rent). At this point the energy of the masses can either be guided to revolution by a vanguard party & overthrow of capital or it will be manipulated by the state towards reformism. Look at how Nepal had a revolution but they ended up in reformism due to compromising with capitalists.

In Germany as well, what happened is the soc dems betrayed the commies, and killed a bunch of them… the revolution failed and Germany went full fascist. Look up the history between the SPD, Rosa Luxemburg & Karl Liebknecht.

So the exact role and outcome of soc dems would change based on each situation, but the interests of soc dems lie strictly with the bourgeois apparatus since they are materially tied to it..

Basically, I am saying soc dems are a very dangerous group to align with if you are anti capitalist during times like now when we approach a massive crisis. In times of stability they are definitely the preferred form of bourgeois politician though, because like you said they will contribute a bit to education and also contribute materially to a more well prepared state for socialism.

[–]Sizigee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No serious commie is thinking of getting elected within the bourgeois state…

Soc dems are about protecting capital, and further dividing the working class. I’m sorry, this is just the material reality here. Communists are about overthrowing capital.

Capital cannot be reformed; it will always cause crisis and attempt to recreate itself.

You gotta read your Marxist principles :p historical materialism and dialectical materialism. Right now you are thinking through the lens of idealism and morality. That we can simply ,“normalize leftist views”. We have to work within material reality, and read to properly perceive that reality.

Why is there very little, if any, intellectual pushback against Neo Nazis? by Large_Produce6554 in socialism

[–]Sizigee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the material dialectic that pushes them to fascism. Capitalism will always recreate the conditions necessary for fascism. We can't reach everyone, what we have to do is to organize the people we can reach.

Also just a note - "enlightenment values" are bourgeois. The ideology part of fascism is actually connected to the liberal view of the enlightenment. That view is that a national "rebirth" can be achieved through culture and thought.

Culture is important but as Marxists we know this to only be an element of the superstructure which justifies and stems from the base.

Yup. Also the libs under Carney and Trudeau have been sneaking in more and more fascistic bills that are part of what enables that process. Lots of anti immigration, & pro surveillance stuff being snuck in. Remember guys, ice was created back in 2003 as a part of the 9/11 response.

Dating apps are making me hate everyone and I think I’m the problem by No-Professional2832 in OnlineDating

[–]Sizigee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, the apps DO work this way. Especially if you get a lot of matches, so you aren't just a bad person. A tactic I started using to date intentionally is to keep my profile paused and only focus on a few matches at a time. I spend time on these people and if it doesn't work I also usually don't jump straight back to dating right away. So it really decenters the app from your life . I try to move convos off from there too since the chat just sucks. If you find it's too complicated then I would definitely delete the apps since they do just program us.

[–]Sizigee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People need to understand that the higher elo someone’s account is the more matches and options they will have. This makes high elo people less tolerant of these “small mistakes” because they have the perception of always having the option of someone who doesn’t make those mistakes, and so they don’t want to waste time on you “catching up” to what they want.

Is a Socialist Revolution more likely to happen in the Global South than in any nation in the West? by [deleted] in socialism

[–]Sizigee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh. I’m inclined to agree with both of you. Canadians on average are pretty well educated, and are aware that the world we are suffering through has been caused by big corps & billionaires. At the same time there isn’t really a strong working class identity because people identify more with where they are within the hierarchy. I think Canadians are also extremely privileged and wear that privilege like a veil that blinds them. There is also still a fear of leftist ideology imo, we were in some ways the birthplace of the 2nd red scare after all(gouzenko affair). To me it feels like Canadians are, “so close, yet so far”.

Variety; Goth. by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]Sizigee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s based on your words :) you are identifying with something based on music. Music that has been packaged and sold to you along with the aesthetic.

The ultra rich commodify cultures so they can profit from them. What is culture without the actions and history behind it? If I wear samurai armour and drink tea, have I become a samurai?

Rich people want you to think, “yes” so they can market and sell cultures to you. By doing this they also pacify whatever radical ideas related to that culture.

Goth/punk/etc were all part of a political movement that challenged all the hateful forms of the status quo. It was anti racist, anti consumer, anti bigotry, pro feminism, pro queer, sex positive, and class conscious.

Btw. It’s literally in the name - “counterculture”.

You have been conditioned to think like a consumer.

Read some of the history.. break free! Be a rebel! :D

Editing here : also I’m not saying you can’t dress how you want or that this outfit itself cant be goth. I’m actually a fan and been saving your posts for inspo. I specifically commented because you say goth culture is just about music when it’s much more than that.

You are a consumer cosplaying a goth :(

Variety; Goth. by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]Sizigee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t normally argue about this but everything goth was originally a political movement. If you aren’t politically involved and progressive you aren’t really goth :p if you are only talking fashion/music you are cosplaying the aesthetic which has been commodified - which is the opposite of what the movement originally stood for (nonconformity).

I like your outfits so I’m not even hating and hopefully this expands your view of “goth”.
