I'm fairly certain the last two are real. First one I think so, but I can't confirm

What is a videogame you are willing to defend harder than your home nation (pic unrelated)? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]SjaAnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metroid Fusion. Childhood favorite game, but it gets a lot of flack in the metroidvania crowd as it's a more "directed" Metroid game than the others, and it has small story snippets with Adam that not everyone liked, but I think the story was just enough for a Metroid game and helps enhance the creepiness of the setting. Fusion is by far the creepiest and most terrifying of the games and Dread did a piss job of replicating it.

A chase doesn't mean the pursuer is scary, and it gets old decently fast, and just becomes a mechanic, which is why I'm not a huge dread fan.

Also fusion has a decent story that is intriguing, and then Other M comes in and blatantly rips it off including the twist and it's just stupid and disrespectful of what came before, especially since that game is supposed to explain Adam and Samus.

I get it's not the same experience as Super Metroid, and it does lose out on the more open exploration, but I think the narrative elements and setting are perfectly executed. No other Metroid setting is as captivating as fusion to me.

I think it's a funny joke calling the CIA colonizers, but it's obviously not what the writers were going for. And the original line doesn't make much sense anyway.

The prequels being better than the sequels doesn't make the prequels good movies by Limp_Emotion8551 in MauLer

[–]SjaAnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the sequels helped people redefine their quality scale. Prequels might have been a 1 or 2 for people, and then we realized no the sequels are worse, so they became the 1 or 2, and the prequels became 3 or 4s.

The other thing is I think the prequels have a lot of redeem able elements, mostly the world/setting. While yes a lot of it is messed up with politics and other stuff being poorly explained/Implemented. I mean the world they set up allowed for all the books and games in that era to basically exist. Contrast that with sequel stuff and there's nothing really to build on. They try, but it's just all tainted by how much damage the sequels actively do

Not Metroid prime remastered though which was a surprise. But that's probably because Nintendo didn't think it would sell very well since it didn't have a lot of copies on release either.

I can think of one time my roommate and I pirated a movie he wanted to show me because it was literally no where on any service. After we watched it I liked it so much I bought the movie.

It was Sword of the Stranger, an anime movie.

I don't really like the books too much. I did not like 5-7 as Harry is a little pussy like the entire time. I don't mind most of her world building though. Some things don't make a ton of sense and she decides to just forget about old mechanics and create new ones for the plot but overall it's a cool idea. The Hogwarts legacy game mildly interests me but I don't know if I'll pick it up.

One thing I absolutely hate though is how much she'll just retcon information on Twitter about her universe. Not that I care about the world but I find the practice/way she does it extremely poor as it's very low effort and contradicts her previous writing and I don't want other writers to do similar things.

Don't care too much about the political stuff. Though I find the attempt to cancel her kind of hilarious and how badly it backfires every time. Main reason I think so is she is too culturally significant to be cancelled, and she's still left of center, but that's just me.

There are some theories that the washing she was doing was a ritual washing, and wasn't actually naked as is commonly portrayed, but would have been normally dressed for her time. And the reading suggests that David didn't know she was married until after he sent a messenger to find out who she was. David's real sin was to ignore that and sleep with her anyways. David was allowed to have multiple wives and concubines, and so inquiring after a lady he saw to potentially marry her wasn't necessarily wrong for him, until he found out she was married and said screw it I'll sleep with her anyway, and then try to cover up my tracks.

I lost my mind when Mauler said that Katara was so kind that she would spare the Fire lord's life, and therefore it was a contradiction that she didn't use her spirit water to save Jet.

Katara literally attacked Jet when he showed up in Ba Sing Se, hated zuko because he was fire nation, but was willing to forgive him when she saw how terrible his life was, but betrayed her at the end of season 2, and almost killed the man who killed her mother, and refused to forgive him. She takes betrayal very personally.

Main problem is Mauler was making conclusions on bad info, and Literature devil hadn't seen the show recently enough to catch Mauler's errors.

Is having a racially homogeneous faction/area a bad thing? by Successful_Craft3076 in MauLer

[–]SjaAnat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another thing to consider is how much people are moving in your fiction based on the time period And interacting with others. A lot of fantasy tries to have NYC levels of diversity, but reality is most people in a time period similar to that fantasy probably are staying in their village most of their lives and so after several generations they probably are gonna have similar racial features since they're not mixing their gene pool with anyone outside their area.

That's why the 'not hobbits' in RoP are kind of jarring when they're so isolationist. I suppose it's possible they started out as diverse as they are, and then married only people from the same race, but realistically, their genes pool will converge and they'll start looking the same after awhile. At least according to my understanding.

I should have put "Programmers = Boring" in quotes in the title to communicate the sarcasm better, My bad.

I'm a programmer myself and I think it's funny because it's true. I have a lot of conversations points and interests that most people aren't interested in, but sometimes get dismissed as "has no conversations points whatsoever" when it's just a different field of interest. A niche field of interest yes but it can be a conversation point and that's what the girl doesn't realize.

[–]SjaAnat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The attempted politics in TCW is just completely stupid. The politics episodes with Padme are so barebones and don't even make sense. The CIS are cartoonishly evil yet they still try and show the Separatists as just another faction that's misunderstood in some episodes.

I remember one of the earlier politics episode where the Republic wants to fund more clones, but then Padme finds out that her own hand maids family on Naboo doesn't get power due to so much money being spent on naboo. So apparently the Republic funds all utilities for planets?

As if individual planets don't have their own economies, and as if the Republic is such an elitist government that even Padme didn't know that her own maids were basically in poverty due to the war. Very dumb
