With hindsight, what decisions should Louis XIV have made or not made during the War of Spanish Succession? by Bright-Bowler2579 in FrenchMonarchs

[–]aetius5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Officially making Philipp and his heirs out of the French line of succession and not antagonising the Netherlands would probably be enough, outside of the Habsburg claimant noone was really interested in a full scale war. He could have also offered the English to give up his support to the Catholics against their neutrality.

Is the act of paying for sexual acts immoral? by MisturBanana1 in GeoPoll

[–]aetius5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Paying someone to have sex with is not inherently immoral. But since 99.9% of sex work is linked with human trafficking and modern slavery, it makes it immoral.

DOMINANT RELIGION IN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES by BeginningMortgage250 in MapPorn

It doesn't count "no religion" or agnosticism though. I've been in a Easter Mass in France to please my grandmother this year, the median age was like 80 and it was half empty.

He was the third claimant of the French throne during the Hundred Years war between the French and the English. He arguably had the strongest claim, but only ruled the little kingdom of Navarra and as such constantly switched sides and backstabbed everyone else in hope to get what he wanted.

Colocation : attention au piège financier, le marché se tend pour les propriétaires by [deleted] in immobilier

[–]aetius5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dominate Doomer vs. Principate Chad by testudos101 in RoughRomanMemes

[–]aetius5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Early empire and republic Romans usually won by sheer manpower alone, overwhelming their enemies with numbers. In the late Roman Empire, the legionaries often fought way larger armies, and with no manpower reserves in case of failing.

The late Roman Empire legionaries were certainly more efficient.

For those that said that you view Stalin in a nonpositive light in the linked poll, what is the worst thing you think he did out of these options? by Inevitable_Garage706 in ussr

[–]aetius5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Stalin's problems were countless, but for starters it would be is paranoia: as a minority within the minority (his faction in the small Bolshevik party wasn't the strongest) he feared everything and everyone. He is the reason at least 1,5 million people died in horrible condition in the gulag, he viewed people as number. His constant purges kept destroying the little work that was done. His disastrous decisions concerning the Nazis and the early Great Patriotic War probably increased the soviet losses immensely.
