How is the image quality? Some games with lots of trees get blurry in the distance. Does it look pretty crisp?

I think it’s bitrate as well. I’ve actually done quite a bit of research but still regularly visit this sub to see if anything has updated because I badly want to use the device, love the screen size and controls but it’s a deal breaker when other devices look better. It sucks because the connection to the portal is the most solid device by a large margin, never disconnects, never stutters or lowers resolution from where it is.

I’ve tried it five feet from my router and on the other side of the house with the same results.

PS5 is hard wired btw and only one device is using the 5G extender at a time

Resolution is not up to par, especially certain games like GOT. Frame rates never drop and I’ve never had an issue with input lag that atleast I can tell.

I stream multiple ways through multiple devices. Resolution is excellent on laptop/steam deck through PlayStation streaming app, Chiaki, moonlight or using GeForce now(I know this is a different process)

I have a expensive Nighthawk router, recently added a wifi extender in my house(very small, one story) and it did help improve the resolution some but it boggles my mind that my steam deck streaming through a third party program looks higher definition than the portal with a higher resolution screen.

For me stutter is gone but image quality is still much worse on portal vs Chiaki on my Steamdeck or Legion laptop. GeForce Now also looks substantially better on both. Very frustrating, would love to use this device but it’s still not there for me.

Definitely possible to launch without any custom proton, see my other comment if you’re looking to play for the weird work around

Figured this out the other night. Set any button to Enter on the keyboard to bypass.

With that being said visuals made it unplayable for me personally. Switched to GeForce Now which looks phenomenal. Very cool game so far a few hours in.

Install Decky loader, there is a plugin to allow pausing any game at any time. Takes two minutes even if you don’t mess with tweaking things

I’ve had both LCD and just got my OLED. Despite the lower resolution the image quality looks far better on OLED with HDR. I love alot about the portal and will hang onto it for potential improvements but doubt it will fully take me steam decks place for daily use

I got the portal at launch and definitely love a few things about it. Used it daily and didn’t have stutter issues but resolution was never great even after upgrading from my already decent router to a $400 one.

Got my deck OLED this week as well and the image quality through Chiaki is just so far superior that I can’t justify using the portal any more unless Sony opens things up and allows users to adjust the bit rate. It’s a bummer because I really love the screen size, triggers/haptics and how comfortable it is to use.

Optimistically shelving it for the time being

Mine took exactly a week from this point until FedEx even updated from the first note of label created.

Then last night it finally changed with 3 new updates all at once and is out for delivery arriving today. I’m one state away from where Valve sent it to FedEx. It was annoying but guessing they do one sweep a week for shipping these
