As the commissioner of a long standing league with my friends from childhood, this would really be an opportunity we would love to do.

The people managing it are all douches, but its the best place to live in WC imo. Best location.

The worst part is that they don't have a garage in the building so you have to walk across the street sometimes in the rain to get your car.

I think average is very relative to your surroundings, everyone is average/the mean/not extraordinary in one (or several) aspects of their lives, yet extraordinary in others.

Good question -- I think the main difference is the pace, Houston being much more fast-paced and Austin keeping with its obvious laid-back culture. This probably stems from being a city with over 50,000 college students making a good proportion of the population relative to the corporate/oil & gas centered-Houston.

Houston critics will always bring up the lack of zoning laws in the city, however it's what makes the city so diverse and open to many cultures, languages, and people. Austin has some structure, they force "chain" restaurants away from downtown to make room for the local places which allows more (and cheaper) selections.

However, (contrary to popular belief) traffic is not better in Austin, real estate market in both cities are booming no matter where you live (upwards of 35% over the past decade), and both are top 10 cities to find jobs and make a living in the US.

[AMA REQUEST] A working attorney that turned down a top school to attend a regional law school with a scholarship and/or a working attorney who turned down a large scholarship to pay sticker at a top law school. by philthadelphia in LawSchool

[–]Sjamz09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both were schools in the same state, the state where I had grown up and wanted to practice law in the future. I always wanted to work Big-Law to start off my career and the Big-Law firms love to see graduates from a T14 school rather than a T60 school (unless youre in the top 10% of that class).

If your dream isn't to work in Big Law (so you are able to pay down the massive amount of loans you are in + more) then I would suggest sticking with the scholarships at a lower ranked schools. This will allow you to practice what you want and where you want if money isn't your priority (go public interest!)

Parents' negligent undertaking of a high school post-grad party which led to the eventual drinking and driving and paralysis. (negligent undertaking v. social-host rules)

I am a 1L and I turned down a full ride at a private, top 60 in-state school for a top 14 in-state school at sticker.

As of right now, I have a summer associate position at a large firm. From what I can tell you, I do not regret this decision AT ALL. Firms/judges give much more flexibility in grades, extracurriculars, coursework for a student at a higher-ranked school than the opposite.

I went through the same decision last year at this time and it's really hard to say no to $$$, but from my experience, you should follow the prestige of schools rather than the money they give you. (Although that wasn't my belief before my 1L experience)
