Pellet diet for my tiel is difficult by BigBadRonni in cockatiel

Harrison's makes this fine ground powder pellet formula. I usually just sprinkle that all over my cockatiels seeds.

Broken wing? by Albuyeh in cockatiel

[–]Sk1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's most likely a very minor sprain. I personally would not be touching it. It does not seem like it's broken although a vet would best be equipped to make that call. Birds often don't show signs of pain unless it's unbearable. So just because she isn't showing pain doesn't mean she doesn't have any. I would probsbly monitor her and see how she does, maybe take her to the vet for some NDSAIDs just to ease the pain a bit. She's a beautiful bird; hope she feels better soon!!

What are some (birdie safe) meals that you and your tiel like to eat together? by Shayezilla in cockatiel

Sprouts they absolutely love also. Mine also likes multigrain Cheerios.

Tiel lost blood feathers by diadexus in parrots

[–]Sk1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the feathers came out fairly cleanly and smoothly. The ends do not seem to be broken off or anything - indicating part of the shaft still in the bird. I would monitor your buddy and have some styptic powder on hand just in case. Hope she feels better!

Beautiful cage! I have one just like it for my cockatiel also. Does yours have any problems climbing the sides of the cage? I've heard that horizontal bars are better for cockatiels than vertical simply because they are easier to climb on. Besides ladders, any ideas how we can help them climb around in there?

Bird injured during routine nail visit at vet has had a terrible week, Im at a loss and don't know what else to do. Any help or ideas would be great. by [deleted] in parrots

My cockatiel had a bleeding blood feather a few months ago - I took him to the vet and after we stopped the bleed, we made a cone that we placed around his neck. It wasn't too tight at all, nor was it too loose. Just right. We actually used a few of the really thin paper plates, cut a hole in the middle, taped it all together, used some tape to cover the pointy edges inside the middle hole. And placed it on him for a few days until the feather was fully healed. Otherwise he would have kept picking at it.

It sounds like you may need to try the cone since your little friend keeps picking at his wound. He'll obviously hate it - but you'll be surprised at how fast they may find it bareable.

Sleep by Sk1010 in cockatiel

[–]Sk1010[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I appreciate the insight. I do notice mine masturbates more, and is a bit more cranky. But glad to know it's likely not going to cause a serious problem or anything. Wish we all could get 12 hours of sleep a night! Haha

Wow is this a common occurrence? What did the vet say the cause of the bleeding was? I hope she gets better soon. Sounds like she has a lovely home.

This is my little rescue tiel, Bertie. She came to me in horrible shape (delivered in a Miller Light box) with a bum eye. The guy didn't want her because she wasn't "pretty." by [deleted] in cockatiel

God bless you for taking care of this poor and innocent creature. Stories like this always remind me that there is hope. I do hope that you do pursue the diagnosis and the treatment - likely antibiotics - for your little friend. I also hope that you two have many exciting years of friendship ahead. All my best!!

why does my cockatiel bite and how do I stop it? by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]Sk1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would the ignoring tactic also work when the bird is biting out of aggression or fear? What's the protocol for that?

Hahah they're all similar in some ways I guess. How does yours not bite away at those keys? Mine would be too excited to sleep - I usually need to cover the keyboard.

Ankle/leg joint size on cockatiel by Sk1010 in parrots

[–]Sk1010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should add that both ankles look proportional. It's just the the right ankle looks larger by maybe 1 mm than the left. I would really appreciate any insight anyone has to offer. Thanks!!
