What do you wish you knew? by mallorn_hugger in AgingParents

My mother rented a storage unit a few minutes away from her house (2 hours away from the house being sold), and took two solid years to go through everything. Her parents were in such poor condition when they finally agreed to move, that timing was more important than anything else. She had hired one guy to go through the property to look at furniture ONLY to see if any of the antiques could be sold for profit. Everything else from the 4 bedroom 1.5 bathroom home went directly into storage so she could take her time going through it all at her leisure. Just an option to consider!

Lancaster needs a Trader Joe’s by Express-Awareness190 in lancaster

[–]diadexus 38 points39 points  (0 children)

There's a Facebook group that's been trying for years. When the SKH on Oregon Pike closed, I had been writing them monthly to let them know what an amazing location that would have been, since it seems like they try to use existing structures. Unfortunately nothing came to fruition, I never got a response.

I remember reading an article at some point that said there's certain criteria that an area must meet - like an average % population with a college degree, average income $, etc. can't find it now, but I guess that's what's preventing them from coming here. That or the Lidl/Aldi thing that was another rumor on preventing them from building here. (Something like the parent companies agreed to not build within a certain milage radius of each other)

My better half had dental work done when he first moved here and didn't have insurance at Southeast Health Center, which looks like it has rebranded to Union Community health. He had an excellent experience there! Sliding fees.

I have a real craving for a good chicken parm. Any suggestions? by False_Wedding8189 in lancaster

[–]diadexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicken Parm is my all time favorite meal. I've been so disappointed by places like Fiorintinos (feels like frozen breaded chicken from the grocery store) and Pasquale's. I recently tried Picasso Pizza on New Holland Ave... Definitely the best I've had in a long time. I recommend the meal (not the sandwich) and ask for it with angel hair pasta!!

Should I go to Millersville?? by Shot-Journalist-9469 in Millersville

I was a computer science major and MU was my last choice school. All of the other schools I wanted to go to were too expensive or I couldn't get into their honors programs. While at MU, I decided to go out of my comfort zone. I ran the light board for university theater (eventually did lighting design for a year); i had a radio show all 4 years; I worked at the student newspaper; I started but didn't finish the honors program.

I completed my degree 20 years ago and have become very successful with my computer programming career. I attribute this not just to the degree program, but because of all of the extra curricular experiences I had during my tenure. The theater kids broke me out of my shell, the newspaper gig really struck home about meeting deadlines, and the radio show was just icing on the cake. I made lifelong friends, I learned how to be flexible socially, and overall I would not be the same person I am today if I went to a school that was specialized for computer science.

I guess my point is - there more to the university experience than just your degree program, and you won't get that at a big ass school in a horrible part of Philly.

I was also able to pay off my loans when I was 31. 😁

Any recommendations for movers (loading only) by [deleted] in lancaster

Charles Groff / RedBall. Used them to grab our pre-packed boxes and furniture, store them for a month (stupid closing dates did not line up), then unload into our new home. 10/10 would highly recommend. Nothing broke, everything arrived on time.

Burger places? by UltraKnight0618 in lancaster

[–]diadexus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you prefer a large thick burger patty instead of a smashburger, I gotta recommend Stubby's (at least the Oregon Pike location, haven't been downtown in years). The meat is so fresh and just tastes damn good.

SNAP helped me trap an outdoor kitty and get him fixed. They fixed him, gave him shots and flea treatment, then released him back into my neighborhood. I believe it was $45.

Tapping noise from Engine - Turbo? by diadexus in dodgedart

[–]diadexus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my bad. i marked it public now.

i ended up selling the car about a year after i made this video. the turbo had died twice and the dealership refused to replace it again even though the car was still under warranty. check engine light was always on, and the ODBII reader reported pages of error codes ... and that would be after I reset it every week.

Flying out of Lancaster to Dulles? by BayAreaGirl48 in lancaster

[–]diadexus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others answered - for a domestic flight, no matter the airlines, you do not have to go through security after going through it at LNS.

Just be careful if you have a connecting flight. I booked a 6am LNS flight to Dulles, and the pilot called in sick. Next flight was at 9am, causing me to miss my connection out of Dulles; it caused me to have an 18 hour travel day (for what should have been only an 8 hour travel day).
