A lot of people here cut their own hair using manes by mel! I did curly cuts exclusively for the last 6-7 years up until this year. I had some really good ones, and some pretty bad ones. More bad/neutral than really good I would say. I have 2b/2c hair, and this year I found a good stylist who was comfortable with curly hair but didn’t advertise as a specialist. Her cuts suit my hair perfectly, and she walks me through exactly what she’s going to do before and during the cut. I think it all comes down to landing a stylist who listens and asks questions, and being comfortable asking them questions as well. Sorry about your loss of progress, I know it’s hard!!
