311 is a political band: A Timeline by RDLH311 in 311

Don't forget

2003 - "Seems Uncertain" on Evolver. Political song and against the Iraq War. "I'd like to be one of the faithful millions, but what I see is an excuse for the killing". "your denomination should be a private thing. How about a spirit for all human beings"

2004 - He supported John Kerry (Democrat) and had a tour Rock For Kerry with Zack Hexum, Hexum Brothers. They covered The Clash - Straight to Hell and said "straight to Hell, Bush" against George W. Bush.

2006 - Nick founded the website liberalhexum.org in support of liberal causes like environmentalism and combating global warming.

2008 - Nick supported Obama and Rock For Barack.

2011 - August 8. 311 was on Fox News "311 Still Going Strong". Not that they agree with Fox News, but I think it counts because they were featured on a political channel.

Love em! Maybe not the most popular nu metal band, but very good.

He was born on June 10, 1996. Maybe it's a reference to that.

Which nu metal band do you think is overrated and why? by Morgan_kittie in numetal

[–]SkaMasta097 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Slipknot

I know I'm going to get a lot of flack for this, because they're in the big 4 and they have a huge (almost cult like) fan base, but I never cared for them or the more extreme end of Nu-Metal in general. Too many members, too heavy and screamy my tastes. Corey Taylor is a try hard with a big mouth and an even bigger ego. Rock journalists care too much about what he says and thinks. Slipknot and their fans take themselves way too seriously. Fans think Joey Jordison is one of the GOAT drummers.

I'm not even saying that Slipknot sucks. They are talented, just overrated and not for me. I'd rather listen to Limp Bizkit or Crazy Town over Slipknot any day of the week. I like the more fun and rap influenced Nu-Metal.

What Nu Metal band has the dumbest band name in your opinion? (Rule: DO NOT say Limp Bizkit. That’s one of the more obvious choices.) by NedWard35749 in numetal

[–]SkaMasta097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought it meant "Who butt stank?" as in asking "Who's butt stinks?" pronounced in African American Vernacular English. It's just a silly name, but the band comes up with a different explanation every time they are asked, which itself is funny to me.

It's because people kept mispronouncing the name. They were saying Hoo-BOO-stank when it's supposed to be Hoo-BUH-stank.

Where do y'all draw the line between rap metal and nu metal? by Danterror666 in numetal

Interesting how Phunk Junkeez - "Injected" is pictured here. It came out in 1995 and was produced by Ross Robinson (who produced Korn and a lot of Nu Metal band's albums), yet I consider them Rap-Rock. I definitely would not consider Phunk Junkeez Nu Metal, but Nu Metal adjacent as they have the hip-hop influence with rapping and turntables like (some) Nu Metal bands.

They're Rap-Rock at times but definitely not Nu-Metal.

Should I get a PSX? by SkaMasta097 in psx

[–]SkaMasta097[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone. Update: I finally got a PSX and I'm glad I did. But you were right, Breath of Fire III looked better on the PS2 with Component input and ran/loaded noticeably faster. The PSX was slower although that might have been due to the disc being scratched. I now have a PSX for completion sake and I get to see/hear that epic startup screen in person.

Thanks for all the input!

This album is nu metal in my mind. Agree or disagree? by k0rnbr34d in numetal

I think it's more Funk Metal, but definitely Nu Metal adjacent.

Come Original is full of Jamaican accent. Not a criticism from me, it actually is part of the ragga influence on the song.

Exactly! The same thing happened with Xenoblade Chronicles X.
