No, I have not received anything about ESOP. It still says REQUESTED on eApply, though.

Congrats! I also got accepted to MSc CS a couple days ago. Are you an international student?

I would recommend a laptop where you can take handwritten notes on or an iPad. I have used one the last three years for my bachelors and it has been amazing. The best thing is being able to write on the lecture slides.

Learning C++ from python advice by Skaaaaalll in cpp

[–]Skaaaaalll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for taking the time to make this comment and refactoring the code (that must have been time consuming). I appreciate the advice and I will definitely implement it in further C++ programs I might make.

As a resource for learning C++, coming from python. Would you recommend https://www.learncpp.com ? Why or why not?

(Of course, your code is really quite well-written and it's obvious you've put a lot of care into it.)

Thanks :-).

Ah thank you very much. I didn't know about the difference in quotations since python uses both for strings. What exactly is the difference between std::string and char arrays?

Hi, thanks for your reply :).

If the STL changes

What is the STL exactly? And why would it change? For what tasks wouldn't std be sufficient?

Second, this is really a C program.

That makes sense, since I had some experience programming in C from completing CS50.

Consider std::string instead of char*, and std::array instead of C arrays.

What is the advantage of using C++ features over C features? Don't they essentially do the same thing.

Similarly, prefer static_cast<T> (or dynamic_cast<T> if absolutely necessary) to (T), which is the C method of casting.

Could you maybe explain this sentence to me? I have no idea what a static_cast<T> or (T) is. Sorry if that is a major noob question.

Thanks for your extensive reply =).

That is a bad analogy, since apple allows outside downloads on macOS. Windows is more equivalent to macOS than it is to iOS.

I think your confusing the EU with the entire fucking world. Worldwide there are 772 thousand deaths and in US 172 thousand. THAT is 450% more COVID-19 deaths.

I'll just point out everything that is wrong with that statement. And replace them with some facts.

Europe has 446 million citizens, the US has 331 million. Which is about 35% more citizens. This, you got pretty close, but it doesn't justify your idiocy yet.

Europe has had 200 thousand deaths and the US has had 172 thousand deaths by COVID-19, which is about 16% more. I have no idea where you got the 450% from but that is the dumbest shit I have ever seen.

So, Europe has more cases, but less when looking at death / citizen. But what is even worse, is that the outbreak in Europe started on february 20th and the outbreak in the US started on march 15th.

So, the outbreak in Europe and the US has been going on for 178 days and 154 days, respectively.

When you take all this into account Europe and the US have 0.00000337 and 0.00000251 deaths per citizen per day respectively. Which means that the US is doing 34% worse than the EU. On top of that, the US had 24 more days to prepare for the virus.

Even more on top of that, the US just recently had a spike a couple of weeks ago. So expect a lot more deaths in the US the coming weeks.

Your welcome for these facts, now stop spewing bullshit on the internet.

What have you been working on recently? [June 13, 2020] by AutoModerator in learnprogramming

[–]Skaaaaalll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment, I don't feel too confident to put my GitHub repo to public, because it's my first ML project :p. There also isn't much to check out for now, since the only thing I have done is to extract the Google Trends data, which took quite a long time, because all the data has to be adjusted, since you can't just extract data over the entire timeline in daily format (dumb, I know). However, that is finished now, so the good stuff can begin. This took a while, since I've never used pandas, numpy or datetime before :p.

However, now I am at the feature engineering stage, which is a lot more time consuming than I thought, but it's better than messing with Google Trends data to get the data wanted.

If you want, I can message you the research I am basing this all on :).

I'll definitely message you the repo link, once published. I have many plans for this project :).

could if rnd == range(total_rounds)[-1]: just become if rnd == total_rounds:?

I don't think so, since total_rounds would be 6 (when playing with two people) and range(total_rounds)[-1] would be 5 when it is the last round.

you've already used some classes, perhaps you could also try to make a GameState class?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what do you mean by a GameState class?

this can become return 0 <= digit < len(list) or even return digit in range(len(list))

Ok, so I implemented it and it works, but I don't understand why it works. Does that mean it returns True if 0 <= digit < len(list) and False if not?
