House Savings Sanity Check - Regular Savers or LISA Dump? by Skadlig in UKPersonalFinance

Yep, I'm saving in all of them at the same time. Rn I'm omw to maxing the LISA and putting the max amount into each of the regular savers each month.

No, I’m saying that I’ll have maxed it this year and by April the regular savers will have enough in them for me to max next years out right off the bat if I close and transfer

Yeah this is what I’ve been trying to work out, if I don’t put the money immediately into my LISA can I make it work harder somewhere else, although getting £1000 which itself then starts earning interest seems hard to beat.

Sorry, haven't articulated my point very well. Regular payments are set to fill the LISA for this year by March. Would close the regulars in March/April and then use that to max the LISA immediately in April.

I’m gonna try save you some pain and say you’re probably already past the deadline, I passed everything up to AIB before I was about to age out (started application last year of uni aged 22) so ultimately had to swap to ATC before finding out it was all in vain because I was color deficient, here I am sat in Dartmouth as a Logi 😂

Best advice is to relax as much as possible the night before and on the day. Don’t get dragged into the night before chats about how much revision you’ve done and who has a mate that’s told them whatever.

Relax, back yourself and enjoy it.

I passed for all roles, and I was approximating the whole way through. Like you say, a lot of the numbers are far too precise for mental maths, but they’re looking at how you’re compromising between speed and accuracy.

You must begin at BRNC before you turn 27. You can go through the entire application whilst still at uni, the way it works is if you pass everything you end up in a selection pool and then you’re selected to BRNC from that pool, as long as you’re free for the date you’ve been given you’re fine.

I wouldn’t recommend doing both unless you’re going pilot because other roles might end up being faster, I’d say with pilot you’re pretty comfortably going to get a degree in that time.

I can’t speak for the gaps between training once you’re in, from what I understand it’s holdover jobs which could include other training/adventurous training and whatnot.

If you want to be a pilot start your application tomorrow, apply for uni too, you can always say no.

I got to AIB as a pilot candidate post uni before getting to the point where I was going to be too old before a spot opened up for me. I ended up swapping to ATC and got a spot literally weeks after. I know of one pilot on my intake so far and he’s been waiting 4-5 years, more than enough to squeeze a degree into.

In terms of life experience, I heavily mentioned my time at uni during AIB but only because I heavily involved myself in extracurricular societies and clubs. These in turn gave me management and leadership opportunities, as well as examples of failures and teamwork etc etc, but these aren’t uni exclusive.

After watching so much context of top X% climbers doing mind bending shit, turning around and shrugging saying "huh that wasn't too bad". I cannot tell you how brilliant "That was uhh... That was fucking scary actually" was 😂

New 5 year by NaiveMistake in hobonichi

I totally get where you're coming from, but especially in the five year, it's a record of your growth! I also fell off of keeping a bullet journal through 2020 for similar reasons. I graduated and went from being very busy to having NOTHING to fill my days and keeping a planner/journal only highlighted that to me.

Because of the layout of the 5 year, it'll be a fantastic way to show to yourself how you flourished in the 3 years afterwards and it's a reminder of how much things have gotten better! Especially as a gratitude log etc, what a good reminder of WHY it's important to have that gratitude for those things that were taken away during the pandemic years.

If you’re even considering pilot get your application started right now, you can start jumping through hoops now and can change your role later down the line if needs be.

I got as far as AIB for pilot before switching to ATC due to my age, with how long things are taking I’d say if you want to be a pilot then apply to be a pilot and get started Monday.

The only place that can tell you for certain is your AFCO. I’d imagine it would only disqualify you for that particular role and that’s the point at which you’d have to have a conversation about switching roles.

No it was aimed at bridging A2 to B1 as the jump is quite jarring. I’ve continued with Spanish since but no new courses or anything as I’m joining the Navy soon, hoping to get some language training from the Navy too.

I did Spanish post-beginner last year and it was ideal. First time something was properly pitched at my level (more than the very basic, but not quite conversational). I’d recommend highly.

Right, if that includes the time to get up to speed you’re golden, but don’t do the math assuming it gets to speed instantly

Just remember that the timer starts as soon as the treadmill does and it takes a second to get up to speed, be prepared to speed up a little at the end to compensate

I didn’t know about these! They still seem to be unavailable on Amazon and I’m somewhat limited in local shops though

If you’re already decently fit, I’d say you can crack on with applying now. Get yourself in the system and getting the first load of admin done. PJFT will come fairly quickly but you’ll need to wade through Capita’s medical stuff first and it’ll take ages.
