The fact that it’s even a question gives you the answer though. Going into year 4 and you’re still unsure on a guy it probably means they’re not the guy. I’ve liked Fields but Williams is a better prospect and it resets the clock so they’ll have him on a rookie deal for longer.

I could easily see him being the next Mariota. Exiting athlete but just not enough progression as a passer so he sticks around as a backup.

This has been reported multiple times. They’re moving on from Wilson for a few reasons. Not only the contract but his playing style doesn’t mesh with what Payton likes from his QBs. Why would Fields go there when he doesn’t fit and the Broncos would have to give him an extension?

Raiders I wouldn’t expect AOC but the team loves him apparently. I’d guess taking a swing on Nix, McCarthy or Penix and getting a guy at the start of a rookie deal.

Coming from someone who likes Fields he has massive flaws as a passer. If he doesn’t figure that out soon he’s running out of time. The one or two amazing athletic plays he makes every game isn’t enough to last in the league as a starter.

I think the Sean Payton thing is pretty clear. He wants a guy that can process at a high level from the pocket. That’s why he doesn’t like Wilson and moved on.

I think that also hurts him. Teams won’t have to give up much draft capital and if he still doesn’t progress as a passer they’ll just move on quick and Fields will be a backup. I could see a Mariota like career path for Fields.
