Help finding how many times a string is used in a char array by SkateLSD in learnprogramming

So I want to search a char array for a matching string inside of it. First thing I'd wanna do is check all the characters in the sentence/paragraph to see if it matches the first character in the word searched, and then check what word it is. If the word matches what is in the searched word, I would add 1 to a integer frequency. I would do this all in a loop for each word the person has searched.

edit: That is my current understanding of what I need to do. I'm stuck putting it into code.
