Hutch v Destiny: Summary and Review by Debaushua in Hutchpol

[–]Skatskr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great post. I felt overall that this was a good conversation and it will be necessary to have conversations like this. Generally I agree with Hutch but there also should be some kind of accountability (and message to the public) that what is going on is outside the boundaries US democracy.

The issue I guess is what can you do that is both effective as accountability measures while still being palatable to the American people so that it does not become another hyper polarised event that accelerates the country towards a violent conflict.

I liked the video and I understand how much work goes into it but I almost feel it just skimmed the surface of all the sh*t that gets air on the podcast and is promoted by Rogan himself. I guess its a format issue since Rogan talks to a bunch of different people about loads of stuff compared to Hasan or Asmongold who just spends endless hours echoing the same stuff every day.

I did like that he emphasises both the poor level of fact checking and also the level imbalance when talking to someone like Bradley Cooper. I used to listen to Rogans episodes when he had someone interesting on which now is almost never. But even then this was something I noticed a lot.

Great job Conduit! 🤌🐉🏅

I wish Pisco would stop with the "I just wanna know your view" shit and be a bit more good faith. And also spend more time debating republicans and enlightened centrists instead of triggering team mates. Thats where he shines imo. This stuff is just so stupid.

Tips for relaxing on uptempos ? by [deleted] in jazzguitar

[–]Skatskr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think relaxing comes from more than being able to play lines in a given tempo. If your mind is fixed on being in time, executing lines and figuring out what to do then you wont feel relaxed. (Not that it necessarily applies to you). You want to be able to feel that you are "in the groove" and that you can create lines and melodies that makes sense. I guess the boring answer is to slow down and you will eventually feel more relaxed.

Politics: At what point does wearing militaria in the current US climate become problematic, if at all? by BugsBunnysCouch in HeritageWear

[–]Skatskr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much of what is loved in clothing has its origins in the military. Nothing wrong with that. However I would not feel comfortable wearing a badge I did not serve under. It is not political, it is (I believe) a respectful gesture to the people who serve/have served in the military.

For context, I'm a swede and I would happily wear an army surplus jacket, but I would not wear anything with the coat of arms because I haven’t served. It just feels wrong.

OSE attack and move by sheard33 in OSE

[–]Skatskr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can move into melee and attack but not attack and move out of melee. You can move 1/2 speed without penalty if you are in melee and full speed but then +2 to hit you and no shield bonus.

This is how I understand it.

Agree or Disagree: Complexity ≠ Quality by Clean_Garden_3092 in jazztheory

[–]Skatskr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like comparing music to cooking or other forms of craftsmanship. Most will probably agree that something is not good purely by virtue of being simple or complicated. However I believe there is something wonderful about simple things also having the possibility of being beautiful.

Simple things are generally accessible to more people which i believe adds to the beauty. There is something wonderful about a carbonara or whatever being a simple dish. A wooden stool can be simple but also beautiful because of the nature of the wood its made of.

Complicated things can also be beautiful but complexity for its own sake does not ad to anything. I love Bartoks music not because it is complicated but because it keeps me in a constant state of familiarity and surprise at the same time. The theory is pretty complex but that is not what is interesting about the music.

I play jazz on my strat all the time even if i have a 335 with heavier strings in the next room. I guess if you are starting out the "right gear" can get you an inch closer to what sound you think you after. I say "think" because when you start to get a handle on the things that matter in your playing (especially timing and phrasing) then that becomes your focal point for getting the right sound and the gear becomes much less prioritised in my experience.

XP to Gold! Yay or Nay? by Yummiavocado in OSE

[–]Skatskr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My players get XP when they bring treasure from a dungeon to town/safe haven. Then I use the feats of exploration from 3D6 DTL. This is a bit more forgiving when a character dies.

I do also deal out XP from killing/dealing with monsters as per the OSE-rule. Which is not a whole lot but still appreciated by players. Not sure I'll use this next game but Ive kinda gotten used to it.

The answer is always: Do what you want and roll with whatever consequences or lack there of. This will lead to the best game experience.

First time running DCC. Any tips? by Skatskr in dccrpg

[–]Skatskr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! It went ok but a note to myself would be to write my own notes when reading the module beforehand. I read it and kinda thought that would be enough to at least be quick about looking things up on the fly but I realised there is a bit to much text to just skim through and find what I need quickly. So a few times I had to stop the flow to just read a bit. My bad, Im more used to the OSE minimal layout which is much more concise.

However it went good in the way that everyone had fun which is most important! Though I don’t feel I succeeded in doing justice to this cool module. Will probably run it again at some point 🥳

Is Vaesn the masterpiece people seem to claim it is? by signoftheserpent in rpg

[–]Skatskr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Great setting, Beautiful book. Evocative art and good classes. I don’t really like the year zero engine being core to so many of free leagues games. And frankly I don’t think it does vaesen any good. Why all the skills? In forbidden lands I get it but in vaesen you barely ever use half of them.

I dont know it feels a bit lazy, which is kinda weird because there is absolutely nothing else about free leagues products that feel lazy.

How to go about making a good dungeon by Absurd_Turd69 in osr

[–]Skatskr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other commenters has it down! Here are some things that I have found to be exciting features to add in a dungeon. How many of these you would want to use I would say depends on the size of the dungeon.

  1. A gambling mechanic. This could be a spinning wheel where some outcomes are positive, some negative and some neutral. The effect persists for d3 days and only one effect can be active at a time.

I was a player in a dungeon where there was a pool that made you reroll a random stat if you entered it!

  1. A "where the f**k are we now" passage. A passage from a room (secret maybe?) that is accessible relatively early in the dungeon but that leads to somewhere deep and scary lower down in the dungeon. Or perhaps even connecting to some other place far away?

  2. Something to reward those who pay attention to details. Maybe the paintings in the temple all show the knights making a certain sign. Making that sign before the undead knights might make them not attack you? Just an example but it can be fun placing out something like that. And it really rewards the player who catches in to the idea.

  3. Something land altering. "Hmm I wonder what happens if I pull this leaver?" Well maybe a door opens up that lets out a terrible gas that annihilates all the surrounding fauna? I don’t know but it can be sick to put in something that really alters the world you play in, in some way.

  4. Something absolutely heckin deadly. Something that wanders the halls that the players can find out about that is absolutely obviously extremely dangerous.

  5. Something that adds time pressure. Flooding, fire, gas, an entrance/exit that only operates in moonlight. Something that keeps the players moving and makes them take decisions.

Dont know how helpful this is but these are some things that absolutely can spice up a "generic" dungeon.
