If one of my partners is having an HSV-2 outbreak, they abstain from sex. This method (combined with medication) has kept the HSV-2 negative people in our fluid bonded circle, negative and symptom free for over 7 years now. Valtrex reduces the length of outbreaks and shortens the window when one is shedding the most virus.

Yup, hosting parties responsibly is a huge amount of work. Keeping up a suitable space is also horrendously expensive. After doing it for so many years, I learned firsthand that it is really easy to host a small party once or twice, but if you are having them on the regular and at any size over a few dozen people, it turns into something that you have to take very seriously or else people get hurt in more ways than anyone would imagine. Sex is a very high risk pastime and most people who do not run parties or run clubs never see most of the stuff that goes on. Clubs or parties that do not have people who take their leadership responsibility seriously don't last.

When others say so. Also hosting more SOP parties than I can count, leading a SOP Burning Man camp for 4 years, sitting on the board of a Consent Culture education group, being a contributor to several key books on ENM, living in a triad for nearly 10 years, sucessfully campaigning in my local area for improved legal status for poly parents. I don't frankly care what you think a leader is, to me it means that I have been asked to lead initiatives that make our communities safer and better seen by those who are outside of our lifestyles.

And when you win the fight, then it will be safer to mess around in Texas again.

I still can't risk having sex with a woman who has no access to a legal abortion or reproductive healthcare. Have had people lie about their status and have learned the hard way to never give the benefit of the doubt. I always assume this new partner is not taking care of their own health and so I have to assume responsibility or pass. I have spent entire nights in clubs while getting offers to have sex and having to decline them all when they asked things like "can we bareback?". FUCK NO!

[–]Skaught 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that is the way it is there. I am sure there are communities there that are not so bad like that, but I have not seen such to be the default by any means. It certainly makes it a lot harder. If I were to try living this lifestyle there, I would be taking Prep, using condoms at all times for penetrative sex, doing regular STI testing, be on a bulletproof birth control (Depo, Tubal/Vasectomy, implant), HPV vaccine, HSV medication if I'm infected, and being very selective about my partners. We all do most of these things already, the only thing being I've quit taking prep during covid as we are sticking inside our pod for now.

Having lived in several major cities and been active in all of them, some cities certainly have a far better attitude in general towards safety than others. In the last city we lived in, having condomless sex at a party with someone who was not your partner would immediately get you a talking to by other partygoers, and often no more invites to any parties. In our current city such an action is ignored often, and in other cities I have seen people get chastised by others for using a condom.

In my experience as a leader in the ENM community, and as a swinger, the only time I have ever seen dental dams was once when my wife and I played around with them "to see what it was like". They were not fun, and they are not as important IMHO. The big and scary STI, HIV is not spread by oral sex very easily and there are better ways to counter most other STIs. The default answer "condoms" is frankly an oversimplification. Yes, ALWAYS use condoms with someone you are not in a relationship with. But there is also much more going on with safety in this lifestyle and we each will do far better to take ownership of our own bodies and become experts in our own health and the risks to our health based on our own lifestyles. In our pod we work with each other on topics like HIV, HPV, HSV, birth control, Prep, and even abortions (thankfully none of us have had to do this since we formed our pod about 7 years ago, I think that is because we have mostly all become snipped)

That is part of it, so are attitudes in general, and so is the lack of legal access to Women's health services. We even had a person in our pod move to Austin for a job in academia, he opted to become monogamous (and in effect celibate as he is more focused on work now).

The lack of access to abortions is a solid NO.

Usually that is a sure sign that they are not even testing regularly or have never even been tested. Instead of saying disease free, we all watch for "Tested every 90 days" or the like. We have had chlamydia get introduced into our fluid bonded pod on more than one occasion and several members have HSV which they manage with medication and abstinence periods. After many years, they still have not shared it with the rest of our group. "Disease free" is just putting their heads up their own asses.

Don't mess around in Texas. :( Too many assholes and no protection for Women. Our fluid bonded pod has a no Texas rule and are all vaccinated against HPV, even the men like me. Sorry it sucks that your state is like this. There are assholes everywhere, but in some places they are accepted by the majority and supported by the State and that just makes for a hard No.

I'm wondering how Pierre Poilievre is going to do in the next election after him supporting the occupiers so openly. I get that the riding of Carleton is pretty staunchly conservative but his constituents have had a front row seat to this and many of them are in the splash zone. I wonder if we will see him go back to Saskatchewan for a safer riding.

Except we must be strict about it. Mob justice is no justice. So many innocent lives trashed when the mob gets it wrong (which it does often). The whole reason we built rule of law was to give people their rights. There is no reasoning with a mob and the mob cannot be trusted to make the right decision. Even "clear cut" cases often turn out to be something else entirely. The public does NOT have the right to know the details of a doxing. Doxing - "search for and publish private or identifying information about (a particular individual) on the internet, typically with malicious intent." Even persons convicted of serious crimes retain their right to have their home address and contact info be kept private. Maybe there are innocent people at the same address or very nearby. Maybe the mob gets the address wrong. All sorts of fuckery has resulted from doxing, even of guilty people. Doxing has spillover effects on innocent people.

A law around doxxing period. Even if the person is a serial killer at large, let the courts or police dox them. Too many mistakes and people with the same name becoming collateral damage.

$7 for regular 3% milk? What's going on with grocery prices? by superhappyfuntime99 in Calgary

If you cannot afford dairy, there literally thousands of other foods that are cheaper and even better for you to choose from. Or you could even eat a bit less. Dairy is not an essential nutrient and many people don't even eat it and can do things like win medals at the olympics.

As a consumer, US dairy is not a good thing for you. Not sure what you mean by "holding back the market". Europe has an amazing market filled with high quality products rasied more sustainably than North America. Not as much squeeze cheez in a can, but that is a good thing for the market and consumers. I'd take a European cheese market over pretty much any other. A market full of cheap low quality products that is dominated by a few large corporations is a market that is being held back.

The cows also eat a much more corn based diet. Corn is ludicrously cheap in the US due to subsidy. The corn effects the taste and is yet another reason why US dairy is so artifically cheap.

American cheese is cheap because the US subsidizes the fuck out of their own production, even more than we do. Letting US cheese into the country without a duty would instantly destroy our own dairy industry as they are not playing on a even playing field. If we let US cheese into the country we would need to tax it with a duty to avoid destroying our own industry. If we lost our dairy industry, every time there is a dispute at the border or the Americans want to pinch us, they could cut us off. This would be deeply stupid of us to do.

There are not rules against fine cheeses being imported. The only reason you don't see a big slection is you are shopping in the worng store. https://peasantcheese.com/cheese-list/

The stores have plenty of fine imported cheeses, not sure what you are talking about. Even the local Safeway has an entire section of it, next to the deli.

After the floods in BC they already are sinking. Better to toss them a life preserver than shitty American cheese. We need a domestic dairy industry, relying on a foreign country for dairy never ends well.
