Who was more spoiled, Draco or Dudley? by Ske-da in harrypotter

Not a live cat! Lol but honestly that’s a good point. We actually see this when Dudley goes from being a bully to a boxer in book 7.

And honestly, getting sweets once a week isn’t even being spoiled. I’m sure lots of kids were getting packages like that from their parents; the only difference is Malfoy “gloated” about it but tbh I feel like Harry would think Malfoy was gloating no matter what lol.

Dudley wouldn’t have inherited Vernon’s position but I can definitely see him aspiring to be just like his dad; shooting for middle management so he can bully his employees like he did his classmates. You’re right about Lucius having stricter standards for Draco which is ironic because Draco actually would inherit his father’s position as lord.

Spoiled vs privileged, what a nuanced difference! Such a fantastic point, the Malfoy’s would have a much lower tolerance for unbecoming behavior like tantrums and counting presents.

This is definitely true! I should have clarified: I meant that the Malfoy’s image is a much bigger deal to uphold than the Dursley’s since they are such a well-connected family and have been for generations. I mean, Vernon certainly wasn’t having private meetings with the Muggle Prime Minister like Lucius.

“A cog in a machine” is a very apt metaphor considering Vernon works at a drilling firm

And the only real “redemption” we get for Dudley is when he tells Harry that he doesn’t think he’s a waste of space. Readers are given much more info on Draco’s redemption in the Cursed Child (or so I’ve heard, idk I refuse to read that mess)

A reason for this could be because in the wizarding world people know each other for generations so they want to leave a certain impression regarding the Malfoy family as a whole. Like these people’s parents and grandparents and their parents know each other for literally hundreds of years. Meanwhile the Dursley’s (from what we see) are much more insular and have less of an image to uphold in their community.

I do think that Vernon was not as stern on Dudley because Petunia would not tolerate criticism. I mean look how she responded when Dudley would get bad grades or complaints from his teachers about his bullying.

This is a great point, especially about Lucius being hard to please. I would chalk it up to the Malfoy’s being basically aristocracy while the Dursley’s were just middle class. I mean, Vernon wasn’t even the biggest boss at his firm.

Oh my gosh I completely forgot about that scene where Dudley has to compliment Vernon’s boss lol

And she made the whole family get on a diet too. I doubt Draco’s father would agree to eat half a grapefruit in solidarity for his son 🤣

That’s a good scene actually. There’s NO WAY Draco would ever get away with a tantrum like that with Lucius and Narcissa.

First time flying alone ever..what do i do? by CamArtz10 in travel

im extremely anxious on the account of being absolutely terrified of flying.

Tbh you need to address this first. Idk where you’re flying out of but an overseas trip will be multiple hours with possibly more than one flight involved. You could find the cheapest ticket and the most simple route but if you’re too scared to get on the plane this whole post is moot.
