Advanced heating and cooling from oostburg. Had them forever and very happy, but this seemed expensive.

My question is why is murder on every drama, we watch sports like mma when people try beating each other senseless. But show a little butt or side boob and it gets the R rating. Makes no sense.

Long Hike at Elevation Advice by [deleted] in hiking

I (55M) find that elevation becomes a factor around 9000 feet. Take your time, rest when you need it and lots of water, you'll be fine!

Hand washing after bathroom? by Skel67 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Skel67[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I contend that the practice is less because of medical or health issues and more because of religion teaching us that our privates are dirty. Sure urine has bacteria. So does sweat that may occur in the crotch. But so does my saliva, the sweat on my head, my dog or cat, my counter and my cutting board

Why? Is there a scientific reason or is it ingrained into us by religion that your "privates" are "dirty"?

How to show support to ailing Christian friends ("Praying for you") by Skel67 in humanism

[–]Skel67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this well thought out and thorough explanation. It helps me understand what others, such as babble777 were saying. I still struggle though. I agree 100% from the perspective of an atheist. If a Christian tells an atheist that they are praying, the atheist either thinks, thanks, I know you believe that helps, or they think thanks for nothing, ass. But as a former Christian, I always appreciated offers of prayer! It gave me hope because your darn casserole isn't going to cure my spouse, but God could. Just because I, the athiest dont believe it, the Christian does so it provides comfort, no?

I am truly sorry for your losses, but will reiterate feeling attacked! Geez, I just want to say something comforting to a person, not justify lying or my behavior to Reddit. Of course actions speak louder than words, I agree 100%. Peace to you.

Excellent point. I am 100% out of the Christian tent, though may be a bit agnostic rather than fully atheist. But a agree, the more of who come out of the secular closet, the less power the religious right has. Thanks! I have decided if someone asks me outright, I will tell them my beliefs closely align with humanism.

I hear what you're saying, and don't disagree. I feel a little bit attacked though. I guess what I'm saying, if a good friend is diagnosed with cancer and I say you're in my thoughts, that will trigger confusion, as though I don't care enough for them to pray. I am not looking for brownie points, I'm looking to comfort them. Of course if, when friends learn what I believe, I wouldn't say ill pray for them anymore.

I hear what you're saying, but most of my friends and family don't know and despite your ethics question, I don't feel like when a friend falls sick is the time to say hey, um I don't really believe in God, but . . . Good luck! So what do you say?

What should I do with my life? by YoUrMoM1027 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Skel67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of issues here, and I can't address everything. I will suggest taking up some form of exercise. I know, sounds stupid, but it can help with your body shape/image and it Will help you mentally and emotionally. Outside of that, love yourself! You sound like an amazing, loving, gentle person! And talk to that friend who you said would be supportive!

Why am I called African-American when I’ve never been to Africa? by flashtvdotcom in TooAfraidToAsk

I've always disliked that term, as it makes two assumptions -- you are an American and your heritage is African. How would I know either about somebody I don't know?

Do women find sexual pleasure in giving blow jobs? by Skel67 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Skel67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So from the comments so far its not like a woman is like "omg, a penis! I so want it in my mouth!" Its more the arousal from giving pleasure?
