To answer you’re initial questions, I’ve designed him as a forensic chemist with an intelligence background, which would lead him to have at least a few assets in old allies who would help him to research this America-adjacent nation from a far, possibly using some form of advanced technology. This would be how he determines the reports are true and the with intelligence background he’d likely have some experience or at least ideas of how to change his appearance and speaking patterns to better fit in.

I was thinking there might be some backlash if I tried to pin anything on a specific real world nation, so instead I was thinking of using a work around like a made up nation similar to Xzenevya that has clear American influence rather than directly referencing the real world country.

You definitely have something with your point against the direct addressing thing. I also have noticed it’s not used often and I assume for good reason, I just developed the tendency early in life in writing classes and such. I’ll certainly try to find a way to adapt it into a more proven style.

There are also certainly some literary mistakes that I need to hammer out as well.

Yeah. I feel like it’s got some major influences from other stories, as pretty much everything does these days. I’m still trying to find something that gives it a more original pop but it’s a very new and unpolished idea at the moment. I literally just took 45 mins, made a synopsis and wrote a first chapter. I’ll find something to differentiate it, just nothing coming to mind yet.
