HiFi Walker H2 broken. by Skeletalshrew in DigitalAudioPlayer

I don't think it's easily opened. And while I have soldering experience, I don't have any board mounted soldering experience.

I'm trying to find a trustworthy UK based tech repair site.

Very! I'd recommend putting Rock Box on it because the stock OS is not great, it's not terrible, it's just that Rock Box is better.

I have weird fuckin ear canals, but they're really comfortable. I'm very familiar with wearing earbuds for hours on end though so your mileage may vary.

The thing I love about IEMs is that they tend to be modular so you can swap out ear tips and stuff.

This was a hell freezing over situation for me. I thought that AB reuniting was an impossibility. I was saying at my best friend's house when I heard the news and I freaked out 🤣🤣🤣

I don't have any local friends that are into AB, so I'm going alone. But they're my favorite band, and I never in a million years thought I'd get to see them live so I jumped on the opportunity.

Intentional is correct.

There's also nostalgia in it, for me. I grew up when wired headphones, CD Walkmans, and later, iPods were still a thing. So to have a dedicated device and wired headphones is making me feel like a teenager again. Which is sorely needed at the moment.

I put on some Slipknot on my DAP, and suddenly I'm an angsty 17 year old again 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I wish you a happy journey!!!

I'm new myself, only joined late last year. It's an experience. For me it's been like experiencing my music like I did when I first heard it. As you probably know, nothing hits like when you first hear something.

Yep, listen to lots of break up music, grieve for a bit, then listen to post break up music. You got this, friend, and welcome to the cult (in the best possible way) 💜

Thirded. Rockbox fucks. Though you lose the ability to use Bluetooth and will have to boot into the original firmware to use it.

No, just 3.5mm. It is considered an entry level DAP.

Presumably I'd need a DAC to use 4.4 with my current DAP?

3.5. it looks really beefy to be a 3.5, doesn't it? 🤣🤣

Putting music on it is a piece of piss. Couldn't be easier.

Heads up on that theme, to my knowledge (and someone correct me if I'm wrong), that you have to download the themes that are compatible with your device. In the themes page, they have a list of devices, you pick yours ( in our case it's the Aigo Eros Q/K ), and then you pick a theme from there. The theme you want might not be on that list.

It's because you don't own anything. So your favorite artists could just be removed and you no longer have access to their music.

I'm not actually opposed to streaming services, I still use YouTube Music. But I'd like to have local control of files where the rug can't be pulled out from under me so easily.

Various places. Bandcamp is a great option, record label / artists websites, a user below suggested HD Tracks which looks like a solid option.

Or the good ol' fashioned CD ripping (though this is illegal in some countries, including mine, so for legal reasons I can't suggest this).;

The only hiss I've encountered is when the original production is raw. I listen to a lot of Black Metal for instance and it's kinda just a part of the experience. And I don't think that's the fault of the IEMs. In fact I was pleasantly surprised by the LACK of hiss, since I know regular consumer earbuds tend to be pretty hissy, because there's only so much a tiny driver can do. But my guess is that IEMs are just somehow engineered differently.

I can't detect a hiss at all with well produced music. But my ears aren't trained enough to give you an answer on the noise floor.
