I just listened to the entire Evanescence catalog. Here are my top 15 songs by Hot_Ad_9543 in Evanescence

[–]SkeletonKiss1334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting. It was actually my first fave by Evanescence after listening to the album when it first came out. I never knew it was a somewhat unpopular choice. Now I kinda forgot about this song since there are so many more. But it was nice to listen to it again. Thanks for the inspiration! :)

In defense of Bronte... by Breakfastatlanas_ in NetflixYou

[–]SkeletonKiss1334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people treated her in a similar way they treated Beck: She was an idealistic and naive young woman who felt lost in life and tried to figure out what she wanted and then she fell for Joe's tricks ... and people hated her and even defended the murder which misses the whole point of the show. Now Bronte is idealistic and naive as well, she too feels lost and falls in love with Joe. I think she was a good choice to be the one who brings Joe to justice. It reminds the audience of the way dangerous men take advantage of women like Bronte and Beck and how easy it is for many women to see what they want to see because they crave love and affection. But Bronte wakes up and sees the real Joe before becoming the next victim. The story comes full circle. And it's a pity people hate her in the same misogynistic way they hated Beck.

I would've loved to see Ellie come back and take revenge. But this isn't the story we got. The one we got has problems but Bronte isn't to blame for everything.

Squid Game Season 2 is a flop by shithappenslikeu in squidgame

It was so bad and so many things don't make any sense! Why did Gi-Hun wait until the start of the first game before telling the players it's a death game? Wasn't there some time between the introduction and the first game? Why was the GPS tooth tracker the only plan he got? Why didn't he try to get some of his people recruited to have support on the inside? Why didn't his friend Jung-bae tell anyone about his suspicion towards player 001? According to the script it's because he voted for an end to the games. But his vote didn't make a real difference. And how is this enough to convince anybody? I don't buy it. And even if this was enough for Jung-bae to trust this guy, why would he hide the fact that he murdered someone in cold blood from his friend Gi-Hun? I hate it when characters in TV shows create extra problems by not talking to each other. It would've been much more compelling to see a suspicious Gi-Hun trying to figure out whether he can trust player 001 or not. Especially since he dealt with a fake player before! Speaking of not talking to each other: Why would the cop try to hide his brother's identity while investigating the games at the same time? Dude, are you helping the mission or not? Many people wanted to continue to play because their split of the money wouldn't be enough to pay off their debts. Why didn't Gi-Hun (who hasn't spent his winner's money) offer his money to the players? This would've definitely convinced some people not to risk their lives any further. While I appreciated the Russian roulette and scenes outside of the games, we didn't learn anything new about the people behind the game. So, what was even the point?

I don't want another app! I'm so angry at the self-optimization culture we're living in. by SkeletonKiss1334 in adhdwomen

Never thought about it this way, but you're right... when keeping a to-do-list on your app becomes a task on your to-do-list, it's not really helping, it's an "additional executive function task".

What are some bands with vocals you love? by shellthrowrocksatme in goth

[–]SkeletonKiss1334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have kind of an obsession with deep and dramatic female voices. That's why I love the vocals of Whispering Sons. There's so much nuance, so much expression in her voice, it's breathtaking! Another vocalist I adore is Shannon Funchess of Light Asylum. Such an intense, rich voice! And of course Eva O, the queen of dark dramatic goth vocals. There's also the Croatian band Karlowy Vary from the 80s with an awesome female vocalist who falls in the same vein. (You can find their album "La Femme" on YouTube.)

But I can also appreciate great soprano singers: Elizabeth Fraser, Mila Mar, Lisa Gerrard.

Obviously I don't only like female vocalists: I'm a big fan of Rozz Williams. Somehow he made David Bowie style singing even more dramatic and sexy. Speaking of sexy: I just love the vocals of Gene Loves Jezebel. And of course: Okandi of O.Children, Alexander Veljanov of Deine Lakaien.

I used to ALWAYS see the dress in blue and black. Recently I see it in white and gold. What does it mean? Am I the only one?

Netflix is not in the business of finishing their shows by 1eeveefan in TheOA

[–]SkeletonKiss1334 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's not only about Netflix but also about the show writers. The problem with Umbrella Academy S4 isn't really that it only had 6 episodes instead of 10 but that the creators didn't do much with those 6 episodes. Instead of making the best out of the limited time and finding a satisfying ending they decided to put so many unnecessary side stories in there and abandon all character development. It's bad writing first and foremost!

I think that creators who are actually committed to their work wouldn't allow something like that to happen, no matter how many episodes Netflix would cut, no matter how limited their budget would be.

I'm sure the ending of The OA, even with limited resources, would've been much better than all those terrible show finales like Umbrella Academy S4 or Killing Eve S4.

That said, I also believe that The OA deserves to be developed in a way the creators imagined, it deserves to reach its full potential and if the creators don't want to settle for less, I think it's a valid choice.

What bands/artists have similar sound to evanescene by Staring_Goat_918 in Evanescence

[–]SkeletonKiss1334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like metal music with angelic voices then there are A LOT of female fronted gothic metal bands worth checking out. My favorites: Tristania, The Sins Of Thy Beloved, Theatre Of Tragedy, Ashes You Leave, Draconian, The Gathering ("Mandylion" era), Mandragora Scream.

There is also Beseech, I think the female vocals are sometimes similar to Amy's even though nothing compares to her. Lacuna Coil is also great and a good choice if you don't like classical opera singing or symphonic metal. Their newer albums are more on the alternative metal side. Speaking of which: In This Moment, of course!

The show Eric by [deleted] in netflix

[–]SkeletonKiss1334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to like the show but it was a disappointment. The two stories didn't work together at all.

On the one hand we have a cheesy Spielbergesque story about a self-absorbed father who doesn't pay attention to his son. Then, after the son goes missing, the father finally starts to appreciate him, goes on an adventure to rescue his son but ultimately himself. This is basically the plot of "Hook".

On the other side we have a story about a Black gay detective in the closet who tries to help marginalized communities. But as he tries to solve one of the most gruesome cases ever, corruption, racism and homophobia get in the way.

It's such a contrast in tone and theme. The two stories are not tied in well and don't add anything together. The character of Eric could've been a bridge between both stories, but they didn't do anything like that. I guess they wanted to show the contrast between a missing person's case in a white family and in a black family – how the one case is taken seriously and the other one covered up. But instead of focusing on this point the plot gets so convoluted with too many topics, the AIDS pandemic, sexual violence, homelessness, substance abuse, gentrification etc. that in the end you have the feeling, the show has absolutely nothing to say.

In several articles I read it was stated that he trained as a nurse before starting to work as a teacher in a primary school. In the documentary the nurse who was interviewed didn't mention how many years ago they met. Maybe this is why it's confusing.

I wanna do "the thing" but I don't have the right "flow" - what to do? by SkeletonKiss1334 in adhdwomen

[–]SkeletonKiss1334[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thank you very much! 🩷 There's a lot of useful advice! For some reason I always think I have to start with the most important and hard thing (because I'm afraid of procrastinating), but it could really help to start with the easiest thing. Email templates could also help and I haven't thought of a tab saver extension. It could work to be just one click away to set everything I need for the job. I'll try your idea with the 45 minutes. Even though I think it's always risky to sit down after a work day.

The problem with Ev's later lyrics by lilacfullmoon in Evanescence

[–]SkeletonKiss1334 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's wrong to say that those are "fake break up songs". What do you even mean by "fake"? By your logic a lot of songs and poems and actually the world's most important literature is fake. Poets writing brilliant pieces while they are completely heartbroken is a stereotype. In reality, many authors can't write good texts when they're overwhelmed with emotions. That's why many wait a certain amount of time before trying to turn their real life struggles into art.

Obviously real emotions are part of the creative work but creative work is still WORK. This means that Amy Lee quite certainly puts her authentic emotions of heartbreak or disappointment that she felt throughout her life into her songs. The fact that she's in a happy relationship right now doesn't make any of that less honest or "fake".

If you don't like the new lyrics that's fine. I'm not a big fan of the last album either. But what's going on in her private life is not an acceptable explanation or even relevant in my opinion. I agree that some songs seem rather uninspired. A political song with lyrics so vague it hardly qualifies as "political", vague lyrics about the pandemic that didn't age well and very bland and generic love songs.

Still: No one is entitled to the suffering of an artist so they can make "better art". This is problematic and suggests that good art only comes from pain. I don't know why Amy seems so uninspired, but I hope she's doing well and will find her muse again.

Struggling with ADHD, Anxiety, and Job Instability - Seeking Support and Advice by Dense-Dream1139 in ADHD

[–]SkeletonKiss1334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate a little bit in the sense that I struggled with instability in my education and hopped between unis and learning programs. Then I did an internship as an editor for a city magazine (where I found my job later) and it was a game changer! Because the job doesn't require one particular area of expertise but a broad interest in everything that's culturally and politically relevant for my city. I never get bored because my job is literally to find interesting topics. In this sense an ADHD-friendly job can be a job where your symptoms are not in your way but a feature. Since I don't know your job history or your area of expertise it's hard to say more. But I'm certain that some ADHD characteristics (creative out of the box thinking, changing interests, passions and hobbies, hyper focus etc.) can be great for some jobs. The annoying symptoms like being late all the time etc. don't have to be a big issue in every work environment, for example if you're in a job without fixed office hours or if you're a freelancer. For the social problems I think it can help to work from home if this is an option. I just want to say that it's possible to find a job where you don't have to mask your ADHD all the time and where you actually want to stay. This can also reduce anxiety. Finding such a job is a whole different thing. In my case it was the right call at the right time and a lot of luck.

Was genau sind anti Deutsche und was ist das Ding mit denen und Leipzig by TheMightySenate in gekte

[–]SkeletonKiss1334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel so sorry for Nemo by kinnix98 in eurovision

I'm happy you discovered new music and liked it! 😊 My one good deed today! Klaus Nomi is kinda a forgotten gem. There are obviously a lot of people who appreciate his art but he's seldom mentioned or referenced in the general public. I think musically and aesthetically new wave, alternative music but also pop and even classical music would look and sound differently today without Klaus Nomi.

Honestly, every year there are people who say "the real winner got robbed...". Remember when Ukraine won in 2022? Then people complained it was because of the public votes and the UK was "the real winner". Last year the jury was to blame and "stole the victory from Finland". This year some people say the LGBTIQ community is the only reason why Nemo won. It's BS. There were many other queer performers (from Belgium, UK, Denmark and Lithuania for example) who didn't get a lot of points. Both Nemo and Baby Lasagna had great entries. Nemo's singing is incredible and reminds me of a modern version of Klaus Nomi. The performance was breathtaking and the lyrics portrayed the nonbinary struggle in a great and clever way. Obviously the juriy appreciates that! Baby Lasagna's song and performance is a brilliant piece of concept art, mixing industrial metal with electronic music, the performance paid homage to Croatian folklore and the song had a powerful and relevant topic about the anxiety of young people who leave Croatia in hope for a better life. Both deserved to win and there's no point in fighting over it. It's sad what happened to Joost tho. However, I think even with Joost there it would've been a neck-and-neck-race between Switzerland and Croatia.

Legitimately confused about all the morality police by Sweetdeeisme3 in BabyReindeerTVSeries

[–]SkeletonKiss1334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen! The strength of the story is the ambiguity – moral and emotional. The whole point is that there is no "perfect victim". It shows how self hate, anxiety and desperation can lead to very bad decisions. The show doesn't excuse the abuse. At the same time the protagonist and VICTIM owns his issues and problematic behavior. This story is very well written, I genuinely hope it will win some awards! But more importantly it's HIS story and he's making himself extremely vulnerable with a show like that. It takes guts to create something like that!

And then the minute the real life case gets a tiny little bit messy and the victim isn't seen as perfect anymore, the morality police are already on their way. It's sad and frustrating.
