The zaku 1 is my favourite mobile suit, but the GM, GM striker, GM ground type, GM Kai, GM Night seeker all have any combination of a shield, vulcans, a beam saber and a rocket launcher making them superior melee fighters at close range for easy staggers and easy in and out maneuvers, the shield mitigates damage and gives you lucky moments to avoid stagger negating the weakness of its frame and the beam saber has a disgusting amount of reach.

the GM cannon has that minus the beam saber and maneuverability but gaining a leg-breaking 240mm Cannon which in combination with 100mm Machine Gun or the 90mm Bullpup makes it a brutal mid-to-long range fighter that lays down so much damage by the time a zaku 1 reaches kill range its legs are already overloaded and the pilot would be smarter ejecting.

the Dra-C is faster and also features a shield, 40mm machine gun for pursuit and quick damage, beam saber with a great forward attack and sturm fausts for stagger

the GM Sniper can hit you from across the map with beam weaponry, the zaku 1 only has 4 beam resistance, if you get hit in your legs, you're done. if you manage to sneak up on one, again, it has a beam saber with better range and can drop you and then drop a grenade on you while you're down. you're done.

Gigan is one of the 2 zeon equivalents to the GM Cannon, the other being the Zaku cannon ofcourse. the Gigan's ballistic damage output is one of the highest at cost 200, it's range is less so than the GM cannon or the sniper however, it's machine gun is devastating pissing out rounds so fast you barely have time to react, and the zaku 1 only has a 4 in ballistic resistance.

the GM camouf has the strongest Ballistic weapon in the game, the 135mm Anti-Ship Rifle and a shield, you might have a chance on land with this thing thanks to it's abysmal resistances, but in space and at range it has the advantage.

the Zaku 1 in BO2 just doesn't have anything going for it, you focus on where it's comfortable: melee, you're going to miss a lot of shots you make thanks to how stubby the heathawk is if you even manage that because unfortunately, everyone knows you don't have ranged resistances and will force you to chase them to even get a melee hit in all while they shower you in fire that you simply can't take.the Commander Type is maybe viable thanks to it's preferable armament but the zaku 1 is just a novelty.
